How to Manifest in a Journal

Manifestation is the practice of visualizing your dreams and desires and vibrating at the frequency of your desires as if they’ve already come true. Because like attracts like, when you vibrate at the frequency of your desires, you’re attracting the very thing you desire to manifest in your current reality.

For instance, if you vibrate at the frequency of joy, you attract more joyful experiences to unfold in your daily life. If you vibrate at the frequency of love, you become a magnet for love in all forms. And if you vibrate at the frequency of gratitude and appreciation, you attract more positive people, things, resources, and experiences to be grateful for.

Now, I should note that the definition I’ve given above describes conscious manifestation. Because the truth is, we manifest all kinds of things into our daily lives, whether it’s conscious or not.

Journaling is one of my favorite manifestation techniques because it allows me to be intentional with what exactly I want to manifest. While it’s easy to fall back into the mode of unconscious manifestation that I wrote about above, journaling allows you get clear about what you want as well as to lift yourself into the vibration of your dreams and desires. I especially like to journal in the morning as I find this allows me to set the foundation for a positive day. There’s something to be said for journaling in the evening, too, though, as it allows you to go to sleep with positive thoughts and feelings circulating through your subconscious brain.

Below, I list several different types of methods for manifesting using a journal, and I also provide you with instructions on how to get started. I like to incorporate all of these different practices into my daily journaling, and I find it helps to switch it up from time to time!

While these practices are all different, the following suggestions apply to all:

    • Choose compassion over judgment and authenticity over perfection.
    • Don’t try to edit as you write. Just allow whatever you write to be, even if it’s seemingly imperfect.
    • View this as essential self-care time, and try to minimize distractions if possible.
    • Don’t let the words solely live on the paper. Feel all of the positive emotions of what you want to manifest, and carry these high vibrations with you throughout your day.

Read below for powerful practices to manifest anything you want using nothing but a pen, paper, and your own thoughts.

    scripting journal

    Scripting

Scripting is one of my favorite manifestation techniques as it allows you to truly embrace your imagination, align with your dreams, and get clear about your intentions.

    So what exactly is scripting?

Scripting is the act of writing your dreams and desires in a story-like form. It’s similar to visualization, except instead of solely envisioning your dreams in your mind’s eye, you’re using pen and paper to write down what exactly it is that you want to manifest.

The key to making scripting work is to treat it like you’re writing a story in that you only write in past and present tense, as if every single one of your dreams is happening or has already happened.

    Here’s an example:

I wake up in a soft bed surrounded by plush pillows and cuddled with the love of my life and our sweet cat burrowed between us. As the sun rises, so does my energy. I feel excited to experience the magic and wonder of this day! I step onto the hardwood floors and tiptoe out the door, carefully shutting the door behind me. As I walk through the house to the kitchen, I feel a sense of awe and gratitude for this beautiful home I get to call my own. It is exactly the home of my dreams: two-story with hardwood floors and giant windows that allow the sunshine to stream through the glass. I take a moment to stand in front of the sliding glass door by the dining room, and I take in the beautiful sights just outside our home.

In this script, the writer is detailing a typical day in her dream life. As you can see, it’s all written in present tense. Rather than starting with, “In my dream life, I will wake up in a . . .” the writer starts as if this moment is in the here and now.

And that’s the key to scripting: bringing the future into the present moment. Instead of a distant dream, your desires belong in this moment right now. Everything becomes tangible and real in your current experience.

Here are a few more secrets to scripting:

    • Don’t just write; feel. As you write about the feelings of love, peace, freedom, and abundance, don’t allow the words to solely exist on the paper; allow them to exist right now in this present moment within you. If you write about a joyful moment, let a smile gently tug at your lips. Feel that joy right now deep within. Feel freedom now. Feel peaceful now. Feel abundant now. Vibrate at the frequency of all your dreams and desires. When you do this, you won’t have to chase the life of your dreams, because all of your desires will be attracted to you.
    • Express gratitude. Gratitude and love are the highest vibrations you can emit. When you express gratitude now as if your dreams have already come true, you’re not only vibrating at a higher frequency, but you’re showing the universe that you have trust and faith that all your beautiful dreams are on their way.
    • Write what feels authentic to you. Do you prefer a small, cozy home over a giant mansion? Would you prefer a life of traveling over staying in one place? Are you dreams filled with quiet moments of peace and tranquility? Whatever you write, make sure it feels authentic and real to you. Just because someone else wants to live in a big mansion overlooking the city doesn’t mean that’s right for you. And if your dreams seem kind of out there and don’t make sense to others, that’s okay! The only thing that matters is that they feel right to you.

    Steps to Begin Scripting

    1. Find a quiet spot where you won’t be disturbed. I think 15 – 20 minutes works well for scripting, but you can take more or less time depending on what works best for you. I like to have a special notebook or journal on-hand for this practice.
    2. Before you start, take a moment to connect with your breath. Take a deep inhale and a long, soulful exhale. Connect with your inner self. What are your dreams? What kind of life do you envision for yourself? What feels true and real to you?
    3. Put pen (or pencil) to paper and begin writing. Envision that you are living a day in your dream life. Write all the details of this day as if it’s happening right now. Remember to use the present tense!
    4. As you write, allow yourself to feel the positive emotions connected to your words and desires. What’s the primary emotions you feel during this ideal day? Joyful? Peaceful? Loving? Abundant? Truly embrace these feelings as you visualize and write.
    5. Express gratitude! Show appreciation for this beautiful life you’ve created. Express gratitude to the universe for supporting you and loving you in your journey. Let the feelings of true appreciation vibrate within.
    6. However you choose to end your scripting entry, carry the positivity with you even after you close your notebook. Let a soft smile lift your lips. Continue to express gratitude throughout your day. Walk through your day feeling the same feelings you felt in your visualization. Know that you are a magnet for all of your dreams and desires.

    Scripting Prompts

    1. Write about a day in your dream life. Where do you wake up? How do you feel as you greet the day? What do you do on this day? Who are you surrounded by? Be as detailed as possible, and remember to express gratitude for all that you have.
    2. Write about your dream vacation. Where are you? Who are you with? What do you do? Write as though you are on this vacation right now, and use all of your senses to describe your experiences.
    3. Write about the phone call that changes your life for the better. Who is on the other end? What do they say? How do you feel? Who do you tell the good news to? How do you celebrate? What does this phone call mean to you, and what does it mean for your future?
    4. Write about the ideal day in your dream job. Where do you work? What do you do during the day? How do you interact with others? Why is this job so perfect for you?
    5. Write about your dream date. Describe the person you’re going out on a date with. Where do you go? What do you do? How’s the conversation between you? How do you feel? Describe what you feel when you look into this person’s eyes and the love that flows within you. Open your heart and let this be the beginning (or continuation) of a beautiful love story.

    5 x 55 Method

This another popular way to manifest in a journal and is completely different from the scripting method.

While scripting involves creating the story of your dream life, the 5 x 55 method focuses on just one sentence.

One sentence written a total of 275 times.

Let’s break it down a little further:

The 5 x 55 method is a manifesting practice in which you narrow down what you wish to manifest to a single sentence or affirmation. Like scripting, this sentence is written in present tense, as if your desire has already occurred. And also like scripting, this method often involves expressing gratitude for your dreams and desires coming true.

Once you have that sentence, you will write that sentence 55 times for 5 days straight.

So Day 1, you write your sentence in a journal or notebook 55 times. Day 2, you write that same sentence 55 times again. Day 3, same thing. And Day 4 and Day 5, also the same.

Here are some examples of the types of sentences you might write for this practice:

    • “I am so grateful for the extra $500 I received this week!”
    • “My heart is filled with so much joy and gratitude for the job offer that fell on my lap this week.”
    • “I feel so happy and grateful for the synchronicities that aligned and brought me together with the love of my life.”

The key with this practice is to truly feel the emotions you’re expressing in your chosen affirmation. So if your affirmation expresses feelings of joy and abundance, feel those emotions as you’re writing your sentence. Feel deep appreciation for this dream coming true in your reality.

Another important and often overlooked component of this practice is to carry these feelings within you throughout your day. So if you desire to manifest financial abundance, carry the feelings of abundance and prosperity with you as you walk through this day. You don’t want to simply write down your affirmation 55 times and then forget about it until tomorrow. You want to become the very embodiment of your dreams.

Steps to Complete the 5 x 55 Method

    1. Choose an affirmation that encompasses what you wish to manifest into your reality. Be specific. For instance, if you wish to manifest money, choose a dollar amount (i.e. $500 or $1,000) that you want to manifest. Be sure to express positive emotions and gratitude in your affirmation.
    2. Find a quiet spot where you can sit uninterrupted for 15 to 20 minutes. If you’re using a notebook, you may want to number the lines beforehand or mark the 55th line so you’ll know when to stop.
    3. Begin writing your affirmation 55 times. As you do this, feel the positive emotions you associate with this manifestation. Feel gratitude and appreciation for this manifestation coming true.
    4. When you’re done, continue throughout your day as if your dreams have all come true! Continue to vibrate at a high frequency.
    5. Repeat this practice for five days straight. Then let it go, feeling at peace knowing your manifestation is already coming true.

    Journal Prompts

Not sure what to write about? Turn to journal prompts for guidance! A journal prompt is a question or statement designed to help you get in touch with your inner self. Usually, you’ll respond to the prompt in a long-form journal entry.

I love journal prompts because they often inspire thoughts and ideas I likely wouldn’t have discovered otherwise. For manifestation purposes, journal prompts are often designed to help you align with your intentions, lift your vibrations, express gratitude, and feel all of the positive emotions of your desired manifestation.

To start with journal prompts, you can check out my post, 10 Journal Prompts to Manifest Your Dream Life.

I’ve also linked to a few more websites with high-vibe manifestation journal prompts below!

Steps to Using Journal Prompts for Manifestation

    1. Find a list of manifestation journal prompts that resonate with you. Google and Pinterest will be your best friends here! You can also check out my blog post with journal prompts I linked to above as well as the ones I linked to below. When you find some you want to use, I’d recommend saving them somewhere they’ll be easily accessible when it comes time to journal.
    2. Find a quiet, safe spot where you can journal for fifteen to twenty minutes without distractions. You may choose to take more or less time depending on your preferences.
    3. Choose the journal prompt you want to work with. Now, all you have to do is answer the prompt! Know that there’s no right or wrong way to respond to the journal prompt as long as it feels authentic and true for you. Also, if you find yourself straying from the prompt, that’s okay! You’re not being graded here. If you find that your inner flow is taking you elsewhere, follow it and see where it leads. Finally, set aside self-criticism and self-judgment. No matter what, choose to have compassion and love for yourself during this process.

Here are a few more journal prompts to help you get started!

    Gratitude

As I mentioned above, gratitude and love are the highest vibrations you can emit. Your journaling doesn’t have to be specifically manifestation-focused in order to attract your dreams and desires. Instead, you can focus on gratitude, knowing that the more you feel grateful for all that you have, the more wonderful things you attract into your reality to be grateful for.

Gratitude journaling can take many different forms. You might choose to have a separate journal dedicated to listing things you feel grateful for every morning. You can also free-write journal entries in which you express gratitude throughout your writing.

Again, journal prompts can be super helpful to help you get started. For inspiration, you can check out my post, 53 Gratitude Journal Prompts to Cultivate Joy Within.

I won’t list steps here because gratitude journaling can take many different forms, but like other practices, make sure to dedicate enough time to sitting quietly somewhere you won’t be distracted. And again, let yourself feel the positive emotions of what you’re writing. Express sincere appreciation for all that you have and all that’s coming.

Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be grateful. When you choose to focus on appreciation for all that you have rather than focusing on scarcity and all that’s seemingly going wrong, you invite more beautiful and positive moments into your daily experience.

    Positive Affirmations

Positive affirmations are present-tense statements that are designed to uplift and encourage while boosting self-belief and supporting your overall wellbeing.

They’re also a powerful tool in manifestation.

Why? Because the quickest way to manifest anything into your life is to feel the emotions of your desired manifestation right now.

Positive affirmations are near-instant vibration raisers. They allow you to feel the positive emotions of your dreams and desires right now in your present-day experience.

So how do you use positive affirmations to manifest in a journal?

Decide what it is that you want to manifest. Are you looking to manifest a loving relationship or financial prosperity? Whatever it is that you want to attract, connect with the feeling associated with that manifestation. If you’re looking to manifest love, choose affirmations that connect with the feeling of being unconditionally loved, exactly as you are. If you want to manifest money, choose affirmations that are connected with feelings of freedom and abundance.

As you sit down to write, focus not just on the words of the affirmations but on the feelings they inspire. Like a gratitude journal, an affirmation journal can take many forms. You may choose to have a separate journal purely dedicated to positive affirmations. (I actually have two journals. In one, I free-write for about twenty minutes every morning. In the other, I write three positive affirmations and three things I’m grateful for.)

You can also dedicate an entire journal entry solely to positive affirmations. I’ve written positive affirmations for twenty to thirty minutes straight, and when I’m done, I always feel strong, inspired, and empowered.

If you want, you can also throw in some Future Pacing Affirmations in there. A Future Pacing Affirmation is similar to the type of sentence you created in the 5 x 55 method: it’s an expression of gratitude for your dreams and desires already coming true. Here are some examples:

    • I am a successful entrepreneur making $10,000 a month. Clients are lining up to work with me, and I am continuing to achieve more success every single day.
    • I am married to the love of my life. We live a beautiful, quiet life in the countryside with acres of land and a house large enough to grow our family. My partner loves, protects, and supports me unconditionally. I feel so grateful and lucky every single day to live this life.
    • I am a thriving college graduate. I graduated at the top of my class, and now companies are fighting with each other to hire me. I’m getting six-figure offers and that number is only going up!

    What is a Vision Board?

A vision board is a collection of words and/or images that represent your highest self living your ideal life. Common components of a vision board might include your career, relationships, home, car, health, wealth, spirituality, lifestyle, hobbies, self-care activities, and anything that represents the life of your dreams. There truly is no limit to what you can include on your vision board as you’re the only one who knows the dreams in your heart.

Vision boards are typically used for goal-setting purposes and can be a powerful tool in manifestation. They help you to set your intentions and get clear about what exactly it is that you want to manifest into your experience. They can also be used for the purpose of raising your vibration. In fact, I think this is where a vision board truly shines.

A vision board isn’t purely about setting goals; it’s about allowing yourself to experience all of the positive feelings of having all of your hopes and dreams right now. Is your board filled with images of travel, adventure, and freedom? Or is your deepest desire to have stability, a beautiful home, and a loving relationship?

Whatever it is that you dream of, allow yourself to feel all of the positive emotions of having it all right now.

Allow yourself to feel freedom. Feel love. Feel passion. Feel abundance. Feel all of these positive emotions now, knowing in your heart that you create your abundance from within.

When you focus on the lack and absence of your desires, you attract more lack into your current experience. But if you vibrate at the frequency of already living the life of your dreams, you attract more of this beautiful abundance to you.

And that’s the magic of the vision board.

It isn’t simply about slapping some pretty images on a poster board and glancing at it from time to time.

It’s about knowing that you have the power to create your life and showing the universe exactly what it is that you want – then through your thoughts and emotions, drawing that life to you.

How to Make a Vision Board

When you think of a vision board, you might imagine a poster board or bulletin board covered in images from magazines and/or the internet. And while this is definitely still a powerful way to create your vision board, know that there are other options!

My first vision board was what I called a “vision web,” and it was simply a sheet of paper with my name in the middle and lines that branched off the circle. At the end of each line, I wrote one to two sentences in present tense that described my dreams (i.e. “I am a writer . . .”). You can start off with something similar, or you can choose to draw your dreams instead of writing them. (Or both!)

I also like to keep a portable vision board with me at all times on my phone. I do this two ways: through an app and by saving images to a dedicated album in my photos. My app of choice is VisuApp, which allows me to add images, categorize them, and even add empowering affirmations to my photos. In my photos on my phone, I have an album called My Life in which I save photos that resonate with me. These photos range from a beautiful house and my dream kitchen to my dream wardrobe to photos of gorgeous meadows and the night sky, which represent freedom and peace to me.

And of course, you can definitely print and cut photos, then glue or tape them on a medium as big or small as you’d like, from a poster board to a sheet of paper.

However you choose to approach your vision board, have fun with it! It’s okay if you forget to add some things or if you change your mind about any of the images you’ve chosen. Your first vision board doesn’t have to be your one and only. You can change it as many times as you need before it finally feels right, and it’s totally normal for some of your dreams to change in time. Especially when you start to realize that some of the things you’ve put on your board have already come true.

Tips for Creating a Vision Board

    • Think big. When you start to create your vision board, you might be tempted to only add things to it that seem “realistic.” But who actually says what’s realistic and what isn’t? Fill your board with the biggest, most extravagant dreams you’ve got. All of it. Let limits be a part of someone else’s story. You’re the one writing your story. You’re creating your path. You. Are. Limitless.
    • Add quotes. Empowering quotes and affirmations are an often overlooked yet profound part of your vision board. Find quotes and affirmations that truly resonate with you. I’ve included 30 of my favorite vision board quotes below. If any resonate with you, you can add them to your own vision board. You can save any of the images below to your device and add them to the vision board album you create on your phone, or you can print them and add to your physical vision board (or bullet journal).
    • Create in a state of joy. When you create your vision board, try to find a time and place when you’re free from distractions. As you create your board, allow yourself to feel all the positive feelings associated with your dreams. Let joy and peace permeate your being. Know that you’re on the right path, and this is exactly where you’re meant to be.
    • Choose authenticity over perfection. When you create your vision board, you’re not just envisioning your perfect life; what’s more important is creating your authentic life. What feels true to you? Maybe it’s not something that would make sense to anyone else, and that’s okay. It doesn’t have to as long as it feels right to you.

Abraham Hicks’ Emotional Guidance Scale Explained

Abraham Hicks’ Emotional Guidance Scale is a powerful way to raise your vibrations and elevate your emotions in a healthy and profound manner. Below, learn all about the Emotional Guidance Scale, including why and how to use it and practices you can utilize to lift your emotions.

    emotional guidance scale
Pin this! Abraham Hicks’ Emotional Guidance Scale Explained

What is the Emotional Guidance Scale?

I first learned about the Emotional Guidance Scale when reading Esther and Jerry Hicks’ Ask and It Is Given: Learning to Manifest Your Desires. In Chapter Twenty-Two of this book, we’re introduced to the Emotional Guidance Scale, a list of commonly felt emotions that range from emotions that we typically associate with being the most positive, such as Joy, Love, and Empowerment, to those we usually deem most negative, such as Depression and Grief.

In between those strong emotions are a bunch of other commonly felt emotions, such as Contentment, Boredom, Disappointment, and Doubt.

The Emotional Guidance Scale is used to assess where your emotions are now and to always reach for a better feeling thought. For example, if I assessed my emotions right now, I might say I’m pretty content. Content isn’t a bad place to be, but what if I could feel even better? What practices could I do to lift my emotions? What thoughts feel good to me right now? I might look at my vision board and visualize all my desires coming true. I imagine what it will feel like when all the dreams on my vision board are my reality, and I allow myself to feel those feelings right now. And it works: I’ve moved from Contentment to Optimism.

The Emotional Guidance Scale is kind of like a ladder. Optimism might turn into Positive Expectations, which turns into Enthusiasm, then Passion, and finally, I’m feeling Joy, Love, and Freedom.

Below is the Emotional Guidance Scale in full. In this post, I’ll explain why you would use it, how to use it, and methods to utilize to keep climbing the ladder so you can align with the highest vibrations possible.

    emotional guidance scale

Why Use the Emotional Guidance Scale

Have you heard the phrase raise your vibrations?

Personally, I see these words several times a day on Instagram, Pinterest, and other various websites. As I discuss in this post, I’m actually not entirely sure how I feel about the phrase. I love the positivity in it, and that’s why I continue to use it, but I think when we say that we’re raising our vibrations, we’re leaving out something pretty monumental: the fact that you, yourself, are already the essence of high vibrations.

What do I mean by this?

Those highest vibrations at the top of the Emotional Guidance Scale? Joy, Knowledge, Empowerment, Freedom, Love, and Appreciation. Those are your very foundation. Those feelings are who you are at your core. They can never be taken away from you, not even when you’re having a bad week or month or even year. (Insert Friends reference here.)

So you’re not truly raising your vibrations; you’re releasing anything that weighs you down, leaves you feeling low, and takes away from who you truly are. You’re getting rid of the bad stuff that causes you to lose sight of yourself.

You are a high-vibrational being. High vibrations are your essence, being, and birthright. And all those emotions at the top of the Emotional Guidance Scale? You deserve to be aligned with them every single day.

Which is why the Emotional Guidance Scale is a profound way to get yourself into that good-feeling state you were always meant to be in. And if you believe in the Law of Attraction and manifestation, you know the importance of high vibrations. At the heart of manifestation is the belief that what we give out into the world is what we receive in return. So if you emit joy, love, and positivity into the world, you’ll receive even more of this right back to you. (Not to mention, you are worthy and deserving of a life where you feel joyful and loved and positive every single day.)

The Emotional Guidance Scale allows you to gauge where your current emotions are and reach for an improved feeling. And this is important. You see, often times, when someone uses the phrase raise your vibrations, we automatically think we should go all-out and feel joyful and passionate and all that good stuff. But what happens if you’re feeling grief or depression? What if you’re in a state of complete despair?

Are you supposed to force yourself to jump straight to joy? (Again, if you believe in the Law of Attraction, you might think you’re supposed to be feeling joyful and that your current state is inherently wrong.)

No. Absolutely not. In fact, this can be detrimental to your healing and often makes a person feel even worse. For one, jumping from depression to joy would be nearly impossible, so if you’re not able to get yourself into that state of joy and love, you might feel like you somehow failed. And forcing yourself to make this jump likely means you’re suppressing emotions, which keeps the negative emotions within your body, not allowing you to fully heal so you can release them.

The Emotional Guidance Scale offers a gentler solution. It reminds you that you don’t have to jump straight into a high-vibe feeling you’re not ready for. Rather, you can continually reach for a better feeling emotion, climbing the ladder one rung at a time.

How to Use The Emotional Guidance Scale

I do want to make one important point before we go any further: the words on the Emotional Guidance Scale aren’t actually all that important. They shouldn’t be used as guidelines or instructions for how you should feel next. For example, if you’re in a state of Anger, you don’t need to look at the scale and say, “Okay, next rung up is Discouragement, then Blame. Those should be my next feelings.”

Rather, you should simply focus on reaching for an improved feeling, no matter where you are and no matter what the “next rung up” looks like. Focus less on the words on the list and more on how you feel and the actions you can take to help yourself feel better. Another reason you shouldn’t focus too much on the words on the list is because these words might mean different things to different people. My personal relationship with feelings of Guilt and Unworthiness might be different than yours. My perception or definition of those emotions might also differ.

So how do you use the Emotional Guidance Scale? It’s less of a tool to instruct you on what you should feel next and more of a tool to help you gauge where you are now and to feel empowered when you recognize that you have the ability to lift yourself up.

It all starts with this thought, from Ask and It Is Given: “Right now I am going to find the best-feeling thought that I can. I am going to reach for more relief, more relief, more relief.”

So let’s say that I’m at a point in my life where I don’t want to get out of bed in the morning. I lack purpose and direction. It feels like I’m eternally numb and that nothing will ever change that. I recognize that I’m experiencing depression.

What is the better feeling thought here?

It seems strange to think about, but hatred, revenge, anger, and blame are all better feeling thoughts.

So if I think about past experiences and start feeling angry about events that have occurred, and then I start blaming others for those events, at least I’m starting to feel again. And I can recognize that feeling anything is better than the numbness I experienced before. Maybe other people won’t understand why it’s a good thing that I’m feeling angry, but that’s okay. They don’t have to understand. As long as I understand that I’m at a better feeling than I was before, that’s all that matters.

I’ll let myself feel the anger for a while, as feeling this emotion is part of my healing journey, but I won’t stay there forever. I feel the anger, work through it, and finally, I release it. Now, I find that I’m in a state of disappointment, but I’m not angry. And disappointment is a better feeling thought than anger.

This is where the Emotional Guidance Scale comes in. You don’t have to look at it every day and assess your feelings, but spend some time consciously recognizing that you’re at a better feeling than you were before. Why? Because this recognition allows you to feel empowered. You recognize that you have some control over your feelings. As explained in Ask and It Is Given, every step higher up the scale speaks to your feeling of self-empowerment, and every step lower speaks to your feeling of disempowerment.

When you first start using the Emotional Guidance Scale, you likely will have to make a more conscious effort to gauge your emotions. It may not feel quite as natural when you’re just beginning. However, with time, it won’t just become easier, but you’ll possess a deeper and more profound understanding of your own inner world. You’ll be able to easily recognize your emotions and understand the methods you can utilize to get yourself into a better feeling state.

Methods to Climb the Emotional Guidance Scale

So how do you get yourself in a better feeling state? Different methods will work for different people, and it may change depending on where you are on the scale. For instance, a practice that may work for you when you’re feeling bored may not work so well when you’re feeling depressed.

Below are some suggestions for practices you can utilize. You can try some of these and see what works best for you. You also might already know of some methods that help you raise your vibrations and lift yourself into a better feeling state.

    Gratitude

Gratitude is one of the quickest ways to shift your mindset from one of negativity to one of positivity. It’s also a way to change your perspective from lack to abundance. When you choose gratitude, you’re no longer focusing on what you don’t have but rather on what you do have. And when you can look around you (and within) and see abundance in every area of your life, more abundance is drawn to you.

There are numerous ways to approach a gratitude practice, so find one that works best for you. Simply listing 3 things in your current world that you’re grateful for might be enough to lift you into a better feeling state. You might also look around your current environment and express appreciation for everything that is around you. You can also choose to express gratitude for all that’s within you: your heart, your breath, your talents and abilities, all the cells in your body that make you you. You can also choose to utilize a gratitude journal to help lift you into a better feeling state. (You can check out my gratitude journal prompts here.)

As mentioned above, some practices that work well when you’re already in the upper half of the Emotional Guidance Scale may not work as well when you’re in the lower half. For instance, when you’re feeling depressed, grieving, or fearful, this gratitude practice may not work as well. And that’s okay! There are other practices that may help when you’re feeling those lower emotions.

    Visualization

I once heard the term visualization referred to as “intentional daydreaming” and it’s been my favorite way to describe this practice ever since. Visualization can mean a lot of things, but for purposes of lifting your vibrations, visualization is a tool you can use to align with the feelings of your dream life (and your highest self). While my favorite way to utilize this practice is when I have ten to twenty minutes to sit in quiet meditation, you can also do this when you only have a few minutes.

If you’re meditating, find a quiet spot where you won’t be interrupted. I sometimes like to play soft instrumental music in the background. Visualize a day in your perfect, dream life. How do you feel when you wake up in the morning? Where are you? Who are you with? What kinds of things do you do during your day? See all the details of this perfect day play out before you, and allow yourself to feel the feelings of this beautiful dream like it’s happening right now. If you imagine that in your perfect life, you’ll feel peaceful, joyful, abundant, loved, and free, then allow yourself to feel those things right now.

You might also choose to utilize a vision board to help you in your visualizations. If you’re on the go, create a My Future album on your phone and save photos to it that represent your dream future. Look at it when you want to boost your mood and allow yourself to feel the positive feelings of having everything in those pictures right now.

    Scripting

Scripting is similar to visualization, but instead of visualizing your dreams in your mind, you’re writing them down on paper. In a journal or on a sheet of paper, describe your dream life, and don’t hold back. No dream is too big. The key here is to write in the present tense, as if everything you dream of is happening right now. So instead of saying, “I will be . . .” you’d say, “I am . . .”

    Nature

When nothing else helps, I can always return to nature to guide me to better feeling thoughts. Walking outside, standing in the sunshine, or even a practice like gardening can help to connect you with your inner self, a higher power, and the universe as a whole. When I’m walking, I try to focus on my breath, and instead of drowning under my anxious thoughts, I pay attention to the world around me: the sky, the trees, the birds, the flowers, and everything in my outer environment that represents beauty and life. I’m a bit of a speed walker, so I’ve found that this works best if I consciously slow down and take my time. Where’s your favorite place in nature to be? See if you can go there for a little while. (And if you can’t, are you able to visualize it and experience the feelings of being there within?)

    Final Notes

I mentioned this above, but I think it’s worth returning to and emphasizing: there may be people in your life who won’t understand this process. They may not understand why you’re glad to feel angry and even enraged. They may not get why doubt or worry are improvements over what you were feeling before.

    And that’s okay.

    Nobody else has to understand.

The important thing is to not let others get to you. You may hear things like, “Just be happy!” Someone may try to make you feel bad for choosing anger. Don’t let them.

Remember that you are allowed to feel whatever you need to feel in order to heal. You don’t want to stay in an angry or worried state forever, but you also don’t have to falsely force yourself to move past it before you’re ready.

Feel what you need to feel as you continue to work toward the better feeling thought.

    Creating an Abundance Mindset

    What is an abundance mindset?

An abundance mindset is knowing that you have access to an infinite source of all good things: joy, love, peace, freedom, creativity, passion, and yes, even financial prosperity. At any and all times, you have the ability to attract these positive forces to you simply by vibrating at the frequency of abundance.

It doesn’t just stop there, though. An abundance mindset means you know that this limitless abundance is available for all. Thus, your abundance can’t take away from someone else’s, and someone else’s abundance cannot take away from your own.

There is more than enough to go around for everyone to survive and thrive.

One way to think about this is to imagine you’re at a party, and they’re serving pizza. You look on the table, and you see only one pizza sitting there. However, there are dozens of people at the party. “How on earth is this one pizza going to feed everyone?” you think.

Someone with a scarcity mindset might dive right in to grab a slice of pizza before it runs out. Because they see only a limited amount of pizza, they believe their options are limited. Selfishly, they want to get their piece before it runs out.

But when you have an abundance mindset, something kind of magical happens. You don’t see limits. You’re handed a slice, and you decide to cut it in pieces, sharing it with the people next to you. But every time you share, your slice of pizza doesn’t get smaller; in fact, it multiplies. More and more comes to you. You keep sharing, and you keep receiving more and more.

When you have an abundance mindset, you don’t see that metaphorical pizza and think you need to get your slice before it runs out; rather, you trust that there’s more than enough to feed everyone. You know, inherently, that the pizza is just going to keep getting bigger and bigger.

    That’s an abundance mindset.

And not only do you have access to this abundance, but you are absolutely worthy and deserving of every single bit of it. Abundance is your birthright. You deserve limitless joy, freedom, and love. You deserve to create a life doing what you love. And you deserve to get paid well doing it.

So it’s time to release any negative beliefs you may be holding onto regarding scarcity and lack, and embrace the abundance you deserve.

Because however much you think you deserve?

    You deserve more.

    Always more.

    How to Use Money Affirmations

I love money affirmations because repeating them gets me in a high-vibe, positive state that I can carry with me throughout my day. Anytime I notice that my mindset is drifting back into scarcity zone, I repeat a few positive affirmations to myself and this instantly gets me feeling joyful, upbeat, and thriving.

The first step to using money affirmations is to consider your money mindset and release any blockages you may have to receiving money. For instance, if you grew up believing that money is the root of all evil, you can reframe these beliefs, knowing this isn’t true. What if, instead, you believed that money is a powerful force for love? What if money allows you to spread more love, kindness, and compassion throughout the world?

Secondly, decide how you want to incorporate these affirmations throughout your day. For instance, if you have a journaling practice, you might decide to repeat some positive money affirmations in your journal every morning. You could also recite affirmations while you’re in the shower, getting ready for work, or commuting. I also love to write positive affirmations on post-it notes and stick them up around my workspace to keep the positive energy of these words around me at all times. Another fun way to use affirmations is to set some notifications on your phone to pop up during the day with high-vibe affirmations written on them!

If you’re looking for more ideas on how to use affirmations, I go into more detail in my blog post, How to Use Affirmations (So They Actually Work).

Finally, remember to have fun with this. The road to manifestation isn’t paved in stress and hardship; it’s paved in joy. The times when I received my quickest manifestations have been when I let myself be a little silly and didn’t take myself too seriously. So if you want to repeat these empowering money affirmations while dancing in the living room?

I don’t just support it; I encourage it.

How to Use Affirmations for Manifestation

If you’re looking for a guide on how to use affirmations for manifestation, I definitely encourage you to read my post, How to Use Affirmations (So They Actually Work). In this post, I break down how to structure your affirmations and provide you with some actionable tips and tricks so you can start using affirmations to uplift, inspire, and feel empowered today.

One thing that I touch upon in the post that I really want to emphasize here is that affirmations are so much more than just words.

In fact, affirmations don’t actually start on your lips, tongue, or even in your brain.

    Affirmations begin in your body.

An affirmation such as, “I am worthy,” isn’t just about stating your worthiness. It’s about feeling worthy.

The quickest way to manifest anything into your life is to feel the emotions of your desired manifestation right now.

So if you want to manifest love, then feel deep, unconditional love within. If you want to manifest success, feel successful. If you want to manifest abundance, feel abundant today.

Because at their foundation, that’s what these are affirmations are truly about.

Feel the positive emotions of these affirmations within, and you will begin to see this positivity reflected in your external world.

    Future Pacing Affirmations

Before we get into the actual affirmations, let’s first talk about Future Pacing Affirmations and how they can help you in manifestation.

Future Pacing Affirmations are a little different than the standard mindset affirmations you might see on your social media feeds. Future Pacing Affirmations are affirmations in which you assert that your desired manifestation has already come true.

For instance, if you want to manifest ten new clients in your coaching business, you might affirm, “I am a successful coach consistently bringing in new clients who are all so excited to work for me. I’ve surpassed all my expectations and am exceeding my financial goals. I feel so grateful that I get to positively impact other people’s lives while doing a job I truly love.

It may feel a little weird at first, but I encourage you to keep an open mind. Visualization is a key component in manifestation, and through Future Pacing Affirmations, you’re essentially speaking your visualization aloud.

A few tips: Be specific. In the example above, I could’ve gotten even more specific by saying, “I’m signing five new clients a week and have exceeded my financial goals by $5,000 this month.” And also remember to keep gratitude at the forefront of your mind. Gratitude is truly the key in making Future Pacing Affirmations work. Express your gratitude in your affirmation and make sure to feel that gratitude throughout your body.

Here are a few ways you might start your Future Pacing Affirmations:

    • I am so happy and grateful now that I . . .
    • Every day, I am becoming more . . .
    • I receive so much . . .
    • My life is the best it’s ever been because . . .

And here are a few sentences you might include in your Future Pacing Affirmations:

    • I am receiving more and more every day.
    • My life just keeps getting better.
    • I have surpassed all my goals and have exceeded my expectations.
    • I am so grateful for this life.
    • Miracles and magic are unfolding around me all the time.
    • I am in awe of how beautifully everything worked out for me.
    • Looking back, I can see how every experience led me to this beautiful moment right now.
    • I am so grateful for how everything worked out for my highest good.

    Affirmations for Manifestation

The affirmations below are all mindset affirmations that will help you get into a positive state of mind for manifesting your dreams. (Note that some may read more like Future Pacing Affirmations, depending on where you are you in your journey. An example of this is, “My bank account keeps growing constantly,” under the Money section.)

I’ve broken these affirmations into 4 categories: Goals & Dreams, Money, Love, and Body/Health. Note that many of these affirmations can easily be used under other categories, especially the ones under Goals & Dreams.

As you repeat these affirmations, find the ones that resonate most with you. You can write these down, save them to your phone, jot them on post-it notes to stick around your house, or even type them up as notifications on your phone to pop up during your day.

Keep an open mind, and remember to have fun with these. In my experience, the fastest route to a near instant manifestation (like when I was on that bike trainer) has been when I stopped taking myself so seriously and simply allowed myself to be happy.

    Getting Started With Journaling

Journaling is one of the most powerful and underrated tools we have in our toolkit to create the lives of our dreams.

While it’s not a requirement for manifesting, it’s a profound tool for setting intentions, visualizing your dream life, and aligning your energy your highest and most authentic self. Manifestation Journal Prompts

Below are 10 powerful journal prompts for manifestation, designed to help you create the beautiful, joyful, and abundant life of your dreams. These journal prompts for manifestation can be completed in any order you want, and you can even choose the ones you like best to do multiple times.

Journal Prompt: Visualization of Your Dream Life

Write the details of a full day in your dream life. Use the present tense. (“I am . . . “; “I wear . . .”; “As I walk through my home, I notice . . .”) Where do you wake up? Who are you with? What does your morning routine look like? Describe the details of your home. Where is it located? What do you do during your day? What do you wear? Where do you go during the day? If you work, what kind of job do you have? What are the predominant emotions you feel throughout the day?

Use all your senses; describe what you see, hear, smell, taste, and touch. How do you feel when you go to sleep? What are your last thoughts before falling into a peaceful slumber?

Be as detailed as possible, and remember to keep an open mind to any and all possibilities. This is your dream life. You’re the creator. Let your inner knowing guide you through your vision.

Why It Works: The first step of manifesting is to set an intention. In order to create the life of your dreams, you first have to get clear about what you want. In manifestation, you don’t need to know how you’re going to achieve your dream. Rather, you just need to know what it is that you want. This practice will help you to gain a clearer vision of exactly what your dream life looks like. It will also help you to feel all of the positive vibrations of having your dreams in the present moment, allowing you to become a magnet for your desires.

    Journal Prompt: Gratitude

Write down everything you’re grateful for today. There is nothing too small or too offbeat to write about. If it helps, you can use the prompt, “I am grateful for ___ because _____” to discuss each item in detail. If you get stuck, consider writing about different people in your life. You can also discuss various objects in your home or moments of your life that you’re grateful for. Nothing’s off limits here. You can even discuss adversity and hardships that brought you growth.

Why It Works: Gratitude is the foundation for all abundance. When I began consciously cultivating a daily gratitude practice and shifted my default perspective from one of lack to one of appreciation for all that I have, my life completely transformed. All of the things I’d written on my vision board that once seemed so far away were suddenly in my grasp. The quickest and easiest (and most joyful) way to receive abundance is to just love and appreciate all that you already have.

As Rumi wrote, “Wear gratitude like a cloak and it will feed every corner of your life.”

    Journal Prompt: Body Appreciation

Write down a list of everything you’re grateful for about your body. Consider each body part: each muscle, limb, organ, and system that keeps you going throughout your life. If you’d like, you can choose a few body parts to write several sentences on (such as the mouth that shows your radiant smile and allows you to taste yummy food). Here are some examples:

    • “I am grateful for my eyes because they allow me to _________.”
    • “I am grateful for my heart because it is __________.”
    • “Today, I really appreciate my legs because they __________.”

Why It Works: Same as #2, but this time, we’re focusing solely on your body. Why? Because your body is your home. It’s where you live every single day. It’s an incredible gift to have these bodies. To have working lungs and a beating heart. Yet, so many of us tear our bodies apart. Whether or not your intended manifestation relates to your body, cultivating a deep love and appreciation for your body (and treating it like an ally, not an enemy) will only serve to open up space for your manifestations to happen faster. Here are 42 body-positive affirmations to help you get started.

Journal Prompt: Speak to Your Younger Self

Imagine that the five-year-old you is standing in front of you, and in your mind’s eye, envision looking into the eyes of your younger self. Now write positive affirmations to this younger version of you as if you’re speaking directly to them. Tell them how worthy, deserving, and loved they are. Deliver them positive and supportive messages. Speak with wholehearted love, kindness, and compassion. This entire journal entry is dedicated to affirming your worthiness.

Why It Works: In order to manifest your desires, you have to truly believe in yourself. And most importantly, you must believe that you are worthy and deserving of your dreams. Speaking to your younger self helps you to let down your guard. Sometimes, we have a hard time telling ourselves that we deserve joy, but when you look into the eyes of your childhood self, it becomes easier. (But if you’d rather look into your own eyes as an adult, or choose a different age, definitely do whatever feels best for you.)

    Journal Prompt: Passion and Purpose

What drives you? What lights up your heart? Where are you happiest? What activities make you feel most joyful and alive? Write about the things that you feel passionate about. These can be dreams, causes, groups of people, or important messages you want the whole world to know. Write with passion and conviction. What’s important to you? Only you know what makes your soul feel alive. There’s no right or wrong answer. As you write about your passions and dreams, consider ways you might be able to combine these different passions into a career or pastime that will make your heart soar.

Why It Works: You have a unique set of skills and passions that make you you. Do you love to write? Are you passionate about fitness? Does it light up your soul to help others? When you write about your passions, you open yourself up to inspired ideas. Allow the words to flow without self-judgment. See where it takes you.

    Journal Prompt: New Perspectives

Write in detail about your day yesterday (or a recent day that you can remember vividly). Who did you see and speak to? What did you eat? Did you drive anywhere? What movies, TV shows, or sports events did you watch? What moments brought you joy? Discuss any obstacles or hardships you encountered throughout the day. How can you reframe these negative experiences positively? What did you learn from these moments? How did you grow?

Even if yesterday felt like a crummy day, write about it as if it was actually a really great day. This isn’t asking you to suppress the bad. Rather, consider choosing a different perspective when possible. For instance, maybe standing in line at the grocery store for what felt like an eternity or hitting all those red lights were really opportunities to pause and breathe.

What happened during this day that you’re grateful for?

Why It Works: This ties back to gratitude. Our lives are the sums of stories that we tell ourselves. And in manifestation, you attract what you put out in the world. So if you believe that you’ve had bad day after bad day after bad day, you know what you’ll attract? More bad days. But if you shift your perspective and choose to view these days as positive opportunities and experiences that you feel grateful for, you know what’ll happen then? You’ll receive more positive opportunities and wonderful experiences to feel grateful for. You don’t have to suppress the bad stuff. Rather, consider all the ways these “bad” things helped you to grow.

Journal Prompt: Your Highest and Most Authentic Self

Envision your highest and most authentic self. This is the real you—the truest, most authentic version of you. What is your highest and most authentic self like? How do you make other people feel? How do you move about your day? Are you energetic or calm? How do you speak? How do you walk? What’s your aura like when you walk into a room? What kinds of activities do you do? Do you move fast or slow? What types of clothes do you wear that make you feel good? If you’d like, you may envision a typical day in your life, and imagine how your highest self would react to the various ups and downs of your day.

Why It Works: This helps you get clear on what you want and who you want to be. Aligning with your highest self will serve you in your daily life as you make important decisions and choose how to spend your day. Whenever you’re unsure about something, you can ask, “What would my highest and most authentic self do in this situation?”

Your highest self is the person living your dream life, so by making the same decisions that this version of you would make, you’re choosing the path that leads directly to your dreams (and becoming the person you dream of being).

    Journal Prompt: Celebrate You

What are your favorite things about yourself? What are your talents? In what ways are you an awesome friend? What makes you a good employee and/or manager? What makes you a good partner? List some of your superpowers. This is the day to celebrate you. Compliment yourself. Write about the compliments other people give you. And accept those compliments! If you get stuck, write down some positive affirmations. Affirm your worthiness completely.

Why It Works: When you believe in yourself, the rest of the world will have no choice but to believe in you, too. You deserve to be loved, and you deserve to be celebrated. One of the biggest obstacles to manifestation is simply not believing in yourself. After all, most of us are our own biggest critics. Starting self-love practices like saying positive affirmations and affirming your worthiness will help you begin your manifestation journey with a foundation of love, compassion, and an open heart.

    Journal Prompt: Envision Your Success

What would you do today if you knew you wouldn’t fail? List out all of the things you would do today if you knew undoubtedly that you would succeed. As you write, visualize your success. Imagine how this will feel and write out these feelings. Don’t limit yourself, and don’t hold back.

Why It Works: More visualization, but this time, it’s a little closer, as these are all the things that you would do today if you knew you couldn’t fail. As I said earlier, you don’t need to figure out the how when it comes to manifesting. The universe will always guide you to the next step when the time is right, and you’ll always know that it’s right by the way it feels. Notice how you feel as you write. Do any of these fearless steps feel really good? One of my all-time favorite quotes is by Jack Canfield: “Everything you want is on the other side of fear.” Our fears sometimes prevent us from taking the next step, but if you knew you couldn’t fail, what would you do?

    Journal Prompt: Letting Go

In what areas of your life are there things you can let go of in order to make room for new opportunities and exciting possibilities? What things are you justifying keeping, and why? When you let go of a job, person, belief, or another aspect of your life that may be holding you back, it’s easy to see what you’ll lose but hard to see what you might gain. Focus on the possibilities and experiences you might gain by letting go of the things that are holding you back.

Why It Works: In order to allow new people, experiences, opportunities, and resources into our lives, we need to make space for them. Sometimes, there are people, experiences, or things that once served our growth, but now they no longer contribute to our total well-being. Identifying these things is the first step. Letting go is the next, often more difficult step. I’ve let go of friendships, jobs, and even entire cities during my journey, and while it was never easy, it opened up space for new incredible people and experiences to enter my life. It isn’t always easy, but when you know in your heart that it’s the right choice, it’s always worth it.

9 Powerful Tools for Manifesting Your Future

You have everything you need within you to create a beautiful and fulfilling life—here’s nine manifesting tools for creating the life you love.

    What is Manifestation?

Manifestation is, by its simplest definition, creation.

You have the ability to create your life through your thoughts, actions, and feelings. You create through your deepest held beliefs. You create through the perspective you bring to every experience and situation.

When you consciously tap into your innermost power to create, you realize that the power to create a life that aligns with your deepest purpose and feels beautiful and fulfilling—the life you envision for yourself when you close your eyes—exists within you.

To expand on the definition a bit, to manifest something means to visualize your dreams and desires and to vibrate at the frequency of your desires as if they’ve already come true.

Essentially, this means that you align your thoughts, beliefs, and feelings with the thoughts, beliefs, and feelings of your highest self—the innermost you. The you who feels infinitely and unconditionally loved, abundant, beautiful, free, and at peace.

Manifestation is intertwined with the Law of Attraction, which states that like attracts like; the vibrations, beliefs, and emotions we put out into the world are what we receive in our lived experiences.

So how does this work? Below, you’ll find the nine essential tools you need to get started.

These tools as well as these manifestation games are a good place to start when you’re starting your manifestation journey. And you can get the full manifestation blueprint in my in-depth guide on how to manifest something.

    Tools to Manifest Your Future

    Tool #1: Visualization

To create the life you desire, you first have to know what you want.

If there were no limits or constrictions, what would you be doing in your dream life? Where would you live? Who would be surrounding you? What primary emotions would you feel? What does your highest and most authentic self look like? How does this version of yourself move throughout their day?

Visualization is a tool you can use to connect your present-day self with the version of you who is living the life you imagine for yourself when you close your eyes.

My favorite way to describe it is intentional daydreaming.

When you visualize, you directly connect your present-day self with the you who is already living the life of your dreams. It’s not just about seeing your dream life—when you visualize, you use all of your senses to simulate the experience of living your dream life in the present moment.

One of the best examples of how powerful visualization can be is how Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps incorporated it into his training routine to become the most decorated Olympian of all time.

It’s no secret that Phelps put in many long hours of practice, sometimes without a single day off for years at a time. But what you may not know is his commitment to practicing visualization.

For months before a big event, Phelps would spend two hours a day undergoing mental rehearsal to prepare for an upcoming race. He visualized both the good and the bad, and he would see himself overcoming obstacles to win the race.

By the time he actually dove into the pool the day of the race, he had already swum it hundreds of times in his mind.

So why do elite athletes and performers commit so much time to visualization? It may have something to do with the way our brains work. You see, your brain can’t actually tell the difference between the powerful visualization and reality; it has the same activity whether you’re physically doing the action or envisioning it in your mind.

    How to Visualize

You don’t need to be a world champion athlete to utilize visualization to enhance your life. Set aside 10 minutes every day to close your eyes, and visualize yourself achieving your goals.

What does it feel like? Feel the emotions that align with your dream life. Utilize all your senses. See yourself living that dream life. Listen, touch, taste, smell.

Like Phelps, you can even imagine some worst-case scenarios and visualize yourself overcoming these obstacles.

For me, meditation has been the best way to establish a visualization practice. Here are some of my favorite guided meditations for manifestation and an in-depth guide on manifestation meditations.

To illustrate the power of visualization, watch this Tedx talk by Ashanti Johnson on how her daily practice of visualization changed not only her life but ultimately the lives of her community through her work.

    Tool #2: Gratitude

One of the most profound ways to create the life of your dreams is to feel grateful for what you already have.

By vibrating at the frequency of gratitude, you invite more beautiful people and opportunities and experiences into your life to feel grateful for.

Gratitude is truly the foundation of the Law of Attraction. When you view your life through the lens of gratitude, you start to notice the abundance that already exists in your life. This deep, wholehearted feeling of appreciation is like a magnet that calls in more of what lights you up and makes you feel grateful every day to be alive.

    How to Practice Gratitude

What I love about this is there are so many ways to practice gratitude. Viewing your life through the lens of appreciation is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to begin changing both your inner and outer worlds.

I’ve written a whole blog post on how to practice gratitude for the Law of Attraction. Here are a few of my favorite ways to build my life on a foundation of appreciation and abundance:

    • Keep a simple daily gratitude journal. In it, you can write three things you’re grateful for each day. It helps to include a why statement, like, “I am grateful for my home because it make me feel secure and warm, it’s my safe space to come back to after a long day.” You can also use your gratitude journal as an evening reflection journal and write down some of the things that happened throughout the day that you feel thankful for. Even the simplest and tiniest little wonders, like the cloud you saw in the sky that was shaped like a cat, is an opportunity for gratitude.
    • Recite positive affirmations based in gratitude. You might even write these on post-it notes and keep them in your workspace or hang a list of gratitude affirmations on your refrigerator.
    • Take time to appreciate everything about yourself that you love. Your mind, body, heart, soul—all of it is worthy of your love and appreciation.

I spend a lot of time looking up at the sky, so for me, one of the most meaningful ways I can root myself in gratitude is simply to gaze up at the sky and take a deep breath and internally whisper, I am grateful.

Your gratitude practice doesn’t have to be some big, fancy thing. Sometimes, the smallest moments of your day offer the best opportunities just to breathe and remind yourself how grateful you are for the life you get to live.

    Tool #3: Giving

All the good you put out into the world always comes back to you.

A kind gesture. A gift. A compliment. A smile. Grace. Compassion. Forgiveness. Love.

When you think about what you can give, think about things that make you feel good.

Sometimes, the best thing you can give to another person is simply your presence. Reaching out to someone. Showing them that they’re seen. That they’re not alone.

Beyond that, there’s also the things you’re good at. Your gifts and talents. Your knowledge. Your creativity. You give by sharing your art. By sharing your voice. By offering your divine gifts to the world.

    How to Practice Giving

Give what you can. Give what you want to give. Give what makes you feel good.

Sincerity is key here. Don’t do it because you feel like you have to. Do it because you want to. Do it because the giving itself feels more like you’re gaining something than losing it.

For creatives, I know how hard it is to share your gifts because of fear of rejection. Your art and creations can feel so precious and fragile, and the idea of someone rejecting it is terrifying.

But I promise—what you possess inside yourself is needed. There are people out there who need exactly what you have.

    Let them find you.

    manifestation workbook guide learn more

    Tool #4: Positive Affirmations

Positive affirmations are affirming statements (usually starting with “I am…” but not always) that are designed to encourage and uplift your spirit.

    • I am worthy.
    • I am enough.
    • I am beautiful.
    • I am a gift.
    • I have everything I need within me.

I’m a huge fan of positive affirmations. I’ve been repeating them for years. I have tons of blog posts on this website dedicated to positive affirmations. And I post daily affirmations on my Instagram stories every morning.

Affirmations are powerful because they’re a way to consciously shift the narrative in your mind. We’re all our own biggest bullies and critics. It’s so easy to fall into the hole of constant self-criticism and not know how to climb out of it.

Affirmations are the rope that pull you back and remind you of who you truly are—they align you with your highest, most authentic self.

The key to using affirmations for manifestation isn’t just to repeat the words but to feel them. When you say that you’re worthy, allow the feeling of worthiness to blanket every cell of your being. When you say you’re loved, open your heart and allow yourself to feel loved. Receive your own love. Receive the love of the universe. Remember that you are surrounded by a sea of infinite and unconditional love at all times.

When I first started using affirmations, I used them constantly. I was always repeating positive affirmations to myself throughout the day.

In time, I stopped consciously repeating them as often. Not because I stopped believing in them. It’s the opposite—it’s because the words had truly penetrated my innermost self and became a part of me. I didn’t need to repeat the affirmations constantly anymore because the words were now deeply embedded within me.

And that’s really the beauty of affirmations. They open your heart to knowing the love and beauty and abundance and power that lives inside you, to receiving the light and love of the universe, to seeing how truly special you are. And as this feeling awakens inside you, your fundamental vibration continues to elevate.

    How to Practice Affirmations

For me, affirmations began as a conscious daily practice. I read through different affirmations and found the ones that resonated most with me. Then, I dedicated myself to repeating those affirmations in the car, while I was running, as I was getting ready in the morning—whenever an opportunity opened up to consciously shift my thoughts from self-criticism to self-love.

Affirmations are a way to reprogram the subconscious mind, so with time, we truly become the things we’re affirming.

The key is always to use the present tense. It’s not, “When I get the [job/partner/opportunity] of my dreams, I’ll be worthy.” You are worthy. Right now. You don’t have to wait to affirm your worth. It’s the best and easiest thing you can do for yourself in this moment right now.

    Tool #5: Meditation

Meditation isn’t mandatory for manifestation. But for me, meditation has transformed my view of myself and the world in a way that I don’t think would’ve ever happened if I hadn’t started meditating.

Beginning a daily practice of meditation taught me how to accept and receive love, slow down, appreciate challenges as opportunities, affirm my worthiness, and witness and understand my own thoughts in a way I never had before I started meditating. I can pretty confidently say that meditation is the reason this blog exists. It’s the thing that opened me up to sharing my words with the world.

It changed everything in a way that’s hard to put into words.

Here’s why meditation is such a powerful tool for manifestation:

When we’re going about our daily lives, it’s easy to get lost in the noise of the outside world. There’s our email, our phone, our jobs, our to-do lists. There are news programs and internet articles and an influx of information coming at us from all angles.

The more this outer noise consumes you, the less connected you are to your inner voice. To the quiet whisper deep within. To your intuition.

And this is a huge aspect of manifestation—tapping into your intuition. Listening to the soft whisper deep inside yourself that only you can hear. And then, taking aligned action that comes from that gentle nudge.

Meditation offers an opportunity to step back from the outer noise and come home to yourself. It allows you to connect with your heart and your deep, inner wisdom.

This usually doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a constant practice—continually coming home to yourself over and over again.

    How to Meditate for Manifestation

If you’re new to meditation, I definitely recommend starting with a meditation app that offers guided meditations. My favorite is Insight Timer, but there are a ton of other great ones out there.

It doesn’t have to be a big thing—you can start by setting aside just 10 minutes every day. Find a quiet, safe spot where you won’t be interrupted. If you’re a little overwhelmed by the idea of meditating, just think of this as 10 minutes of sitting and connecting with your breath. That’s it. You don’t have to completely clear your brain so it’s a perfectly blank slate. Just keep coming back to your breath.

There are several types of meditation that help with manifestation:

    • Visualization meditations give you the opportunity to visualize your dream life and vibrate at the frequency of your dreams and desires.
    • Gratitude meditations allow you to ground yourself in appreciation, inviting more people and things and experiences into your life to be grateful for.
    • Affirmation meditations help you to align with your highest self and vibrate at the frequency of self-love.
    • Mindfulness meditations offer a quiet space to connect with your breath and quiet the noise of the outer world so you can hear the soft voice within.

    Tool #6: Habits

While it’s definitely possible to make big transformations and start living your dream life in a very short amount of time, the most transformative long-term shifts come when you cultivate daily habits over a long period of time.

When discussing major shifts and transformations, we tend to discuss that “one big thing” that happens and often gloss over the small, consistent improvements we make on a daily basis. But it’s rarely the “one big thing” that enters your life and changes everything.

Rather, it’s the habits you build over weeks, months, and years.

In his book Atomic Habits, James Clear writes, “Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement . . . They seem to make little difference on any given day and yet the impact they deliver over the months and years can be enormous. It is only when looking back two, five, or perhaps ten years later that the value of good habits and the cost of bad ones becomes strikingly apparent.

Manifestation requires you to be intentional about your habits. All of the practices I’ve mentioned so far—visualization, gratitude, affirmations, meditation—are easy enough to do. But you have to commit to doing them routinely, not just every once in a while.

Beyond the practices I’ve mentioned here, anything you can do to maintain a high vibration can be incorporated into a list of positive habits you want to adopt. For instance, if you know going to the gym for 30 minutes a day, four times a week makes you feel really good, or reading a book in the evenings helps you to calm your mind and feel at peace, these can all be incorporated into your regular manifestation practice.

How to Begin Cultivating New Habits

When you want to build a new habit, it’s usually easiest to start small. The easier you make it, the more likely it will stick.

When I started meditating, I committed to just 10 minutes in the mornings before work. With many of the other practices on this list, I found ways to combine them with things I was already doing in my daily life. For instance, I’d repeat positive affirmations while getting ready in the morning or driving to the grocery store. Same with my gratitude practice. It was nothing big or overly complicated—just subtle but powerful shifts in my conscious thinking.

If you love lists and being organized, a habit tracker can be super useful to stay on top of the habits you want to incorporate into your manifestation practice. A habit tracker allows you to write down your list of positive habits and mark them off each day once you’ve completed them.

Day Designer offers a free habit tracker printable that you can download and fill in with up to 19 positive habits.

    Tool #7: An Abundance Mentality

In The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey characterizes an abundance mentality as the belief that there are enough resources for everyone to share.

This is opposed to the scarcity mindset, which is rooted in the belief that we’re all competing for a limited amount of resources.

A person with an abundance mindset will celebrate and rejoice in the successes of others, while a person with a scarcity mindset will feel bitter and resentful toward another’s accomplishments because they believe this decreases their own opportunities for success.

When you view resources as being limited, the feeling of competition arises. Because there seemingly isn’t enough to go around, you become reluctant to share your resources or knowledge with another for fear that someone else’s success means you will have less opportunities. When you see someone succeed, you see your slice of the pie getting smaller, and instead of feeling happy for their success, you feel resentful and envious.

It doesn’t sound pleasant, and it doesn’t feel very good either.

And there’s a reason it doesn’t feel good: because these negative feelings of scarcity aren’t aligned with who you really are.

    And they’re not the truth.

The truth is, there is an infinite abundance of resources in this world for you, and someone else’s success can never take away from your own.

And when you see someone else succeed, that’s just proof that it’s possible. It shows you that you can do it, too.

An abundance mentality is a huge part of manifestation. Not only does it help you stay at a higher vibration, but it also helps you to build a foundation of believing anything is possible.

How to Develop an Abundance Mentality

Take some time to recognize any limiting beliefs you might hold around the idea of abundance and scarcity. Recognize them without judgment. It might help them to write them down.

Then, ask yourself: “Are these beliefs true?”

Gently probe these limiting beliefs, getting to the source of where them stem from.

Once you’ve examined your limiting beliefs, create another list—this one is for your new, reframed beliefs.

Write down the new, reframed beliefs about abundance that you want to build into the foundation for your life. These beliefs might be rooted in the idea that there are limitless resources, that your ability to receive abundance is infinite, and that nobody else’s abundance can take away from your own (and vice versa).

If you need extra help with this, I’ve created a workbook for releasing limiting beliefs in my collection of self-love workbooks.

    Tool #8: A Prosperity Mindset

This could also could be called An Abundance Mindset, Part Two.

I wanted to differentiate a Prosperity Mindset from an Abundance Mindset for a couple reasons. I view an abundance mentality as the belief there are enough resources for everyone while a prosperity mindset is a personal, strongly held belief you have toward yourself.

A prosperity mindset is the story you tell yourself about your own wealth and ability to create anything you want in your life.

A prosperity mindset is the belief that you are abundant now.

This is deeply intertwined with gratitude. Rather than looking around and viewing your life through a lens of what you’re lacking, look around with a lens of abundance.

How does abundance exist in your life right now? How are you prosperous? What makes you wealthy?

This plays a key role in manifestation, as at the root of manifesting is vibrating at the frequency of what you desire as if you already have it. To do this, you need a prosperity mindset. This is all about believing that you are wealthy and prosperous (not just in financial resources but in love, health, joy, freedom, and all good things) today.

    Developing a Prosperity Mindset

Again, this is really tied to gratitude. Developing a prosperity mindset means recognizing the abundance that already exists in your life.

It’s realizing that you are a naturally abundant being. Abundance is who you are. Abundance is the true nature of your highest self.

And to connect with this feeling, the best way to start is to view your life through the lens of prosperity.

It might help to start by writing down all the ways abundance exists in your life.

Consider the air you breathe. Right now, you are surrounded by air. When you inhale, you don’t hold onto this breath out of fear that the next won’t come. No—you let it go, trusting in the abundance of air that surrounds you. Trusting in the next breath.

That is just one of the ways you are a naturally abundant being.

You can list out all the ways you’re naturally abundant, or you might explore it deeper in a journaling session. When you’re thinking about what you want to manifest, return to this feeling of abundance. Know that it isn’t something you need to strive for, as abundance is your baseline. It exists at the very foundation of who you are.

    Tool #9: Compassion

Humans are innately compassionate beings. We’re compassionate toward our loved ones and our pets. We’re compassionate toward other suffering beings. We’re compassionate toward this earth.

But when was the last time you were compassionate with yourself?

Finding the grace to be compassionate with myself has been one of my longest and most difficult journeys. When I first learned about the Law of Attraction, I focused on perfecting all the tools I had learned about. I visualized. I cultivated a positive mindset. I made sure I had good thoughts and felt good feelings so all that positivity would come back to me. I was certain I was going to be an A+ student.

So what happened when I had a bad day or when a negative thought (or a stream of negativity) overtook my brain?

    I became a mess.

I felt like a failure. I felt like I was now opening up a Pandora’s Box of terrible things to happen to me.

You see, my problem was that I was trying too hard to be perfect.

I had dove straight into the water without a life vest, so I had nothing to keep me afloat on the days when I wasn’t completely aligned with my highest self—when I wasn’t all high vibrations.

The truth is, you’re going to have hard days. That’s just part of being human.

And your life vest is self-compassion.

Self-compassion means allowing for and accepting your imperfections. Self-compassion means speaking to yourself with loving kindness, even when you don’t feel particularly good. Self-compassion means accepting and receiving love from yourself and others right now, just as you are, and knowing you don’t need to do or achieve anything to deserve that love.

    How to Practice Self-Compassion

The key here is paying attention to your own thoughts. Mindfulness helps with this.

When you notice that you’re being overly critical, take a deep breath and gently pull your thoughts back in. Remember that you are loved, even on the days when you don’t feel like you’re at your best. You are loved in all moments. So allow yourself to be loved in these hard moments.

You may think a negative thought or feeling lowers your vibration, and then when you criticize yourself for it, your vibration drops even lower.

But when you have these hard moments and respond to them with love and compassion, it actually raises your vibration. It also opens your heart to receiving even more love.

Continue to practice self-compassion on your hard and heavy days. You might even have some positive affirmations ready so you can repeat them when you’re feeling low.

Are You Ready to Start Manifesting?

While these nine tools for manifesting will help you to bring your dream into your reality, I want to highlight the most important link between all of thee practices:

    Mindset.

Before anything else, you must believe you are worthy, deserving, and capable of living the life of your dreams.

And if you don’t get it 100% perfect all of the time, that’s okay. Be gentle with yourself. Go slow. Don’t try to pile everything into one day and be the “best” at everything. Allow yourself to enjoy the journey. Recognize that the seemingly bad moments are truly just opportunities to learn and grow and appreciate.

To be honest, I mess up a lot. Negative thoughts sometimes slip into my consciousness. I sometimes choose frustration over gratitude. And in these moments, #9 becomes even more important. Be deeply compassionate with yourself. Instead of repressing the bad and pretending it doesn’t exist in order to fit a false idea of perfection, recognize when you have a negative thought, gently probe its roots, and as you realize the thought no longer serves you, kindly and gently let it go.

I know it isn’t always easy, but never forget, you are worthy and deserving of living the life of your dreams.
