    A Creative Life

You can jump straight to the affirmations by clicking here.

For as long as I can remember, creativity has played a central role in my life.

Growing up, I lived in my imagination.

As a kid, using my imagination to create something that felt real was effortless. I never had to force new and inspired ideas to come to me; they just came when I called them.

I didn’t view the world in terms of limits. I viewed it in terms of possibilities.

Slowly, though, as I grew older and became an adult with real-world problems and real-world responsibilities, I began to lose touch with my imagination. While I’d still write and seek other creative outlets, my goal was never to create just for the sake of exploring the worlds that existed within me.

For many years, I created to make something subjectively good and acceptable.

And without fully realizing it, I had fallen victim to a number of limiting beliefs.

Here were some of those beliefs:

    • That my creativity was limited
    • That my creativity was only worthwhile if it was subjectively good and pleasing to others
    • That “bad” creativity was not worthwhile
    • That there was a limited amount of creative ideas within me
    • That creativity was supposed to be hard
    • That there were people who were just more talented than me, and thus, their creative endeavors were more worthwhile than mine.

While we often think that growing up makes us smarter and wiser, when it comes to creativity and using our imaginations, the opposite is often true. It’s our younger selves who hold the wisdom here.

I know that for me, it’s my younger self who I’ve been returning to over and over again to relearn how to use my imagination and create just for the joy of it—to give myself the grace of imperfection.

I don’t have the space here in this blog post to tell you about the journey I’ve taken to release these limiting beliefs and realign with my inner child, but I can share with you some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way:

    • You have access to an infinite abundance of inspired ideas and limitless creativity
    • Your creativity is worthwhile, no matter what others may think
    • You are a creative being, and it is right for you to create
    • You are good enough
    • Your creativity can’t and shouldn’t be compared to others
    • Spending time in your own imagination is just as productive and worthwhile as all the chores and errands written down on your to-do list.

Below, you’ll find 43 affirmations to inspire your divine creativity. Use these affirmations when you’re in a flow state to remain open to the flow of your infinite creativity, and recite them when you’re feeling blocked to realign with your creative self.

Additionally, I’ve included some tips that have helped me to open myself up to my inner creative and release blockages when they arise.

    Tips to Inspire Creativity

    Release Perfectionism

If you’re anything like me, if you worked on a single project until it was perfect, you’d be working on it forever.

But there comes a time when you have to let something go and know that what you’ve done is enough.

I’ll even take this one step further and say that not only should you release perfectionism, but there’s something kind of wonderful about embracing imperfections. There’s beauty to be found in the broken, flawed, and imperfect pieces we create.

    Don’t Edit

Not while you’re creating, at least. If you’re in that really cool, really special flow state, editing is one of the fastest ways to break the flow. Save editing for the end. When you do this, you’ll often be surprised by what you come up with.

    Let Yourself Be Bad

This goes hand-in-hand with don’t edit. If you only create when you know you can produce something subjectively good, you’re unconsciously building blockages for yourself. But when you embrace all the flaws and imperfections of your creation, the “bad” often leads to something kind of awesome and wonderful.

    Try Something New

Writing is my creative outlet of choice, but sometimes, I need a break after writing for hours every single day. Letting myself paint, draw, color, and find other creative practices is like a sigh of relief for my soul. It replenishes my creative energy and never fails to produce new writing ideas I wouldn’t have thought of without these other outlets.

    Put Away Your Phone

This is something I’ve had to learn to do, as I found that whenever I paused for a moment while I was writing, I’d instinctively reach for my phone. Now, I try to dedicate time purely to creating without any external distractions. This has vastly improved my creative flow, and I’ll admit, it’s kind of nice not to have my phone in my peripheral vision all the time.

    Heal Your Chakras

Located in your lower abdomen, below the navel, the Sacral Chakra is your body’s energy center for creativity, joy, passion, and play. And the Third Eye Chakra, located between your eyebrows, is your body’s energy center for insight, intuition, and imagination. When these energy centers are open and balanced, you become aligned with your most creative and inspired self.

    What Is An Affirmation?

An affirmation is a positive affirming statement that’s designed to boost your self-belief and support your overall well-being: mind, body, and soul.

The standard format for reciting a positive affirmation is to begin with two simple yet powerful words:

    “I am.”

For example, here are some commonly used I am affirmations:

    • I am worthy.
    • I am enough.
    • I am strong.
    • I am beautiful.
    • I am whole.
    • I am loved.

While the standard “I am . . .” formula is the most popular method for creating affirmations, there are a ton of creative ways to formulate an empowering affirmation.

For instance, here are some other ways you might start an affirmation:

    • I can . . .
    • I accept . . .
    • I believe . . .
    • My (life, heart, body, worthiness) is . . .
    • I release . . .
    • I have . . .
    • All is . . .
    • Everything is . . .
    • I feel . . .

The best affirmations are always the ones that resonate deeply within. They shouldn’t feel like surface-level words that you’re just saying but don’t really feel are true. The words you recite should connect to the deepest part of you. They should push past the layers of armor you wear to protect yourself from hurt and pain. They should speak to the truth of who you are and cultivate a sense of profound peace within.

    When To Use Affirmations

One of my favorite things about affirmations is that they can be used pretty much any time and any place. For instance, you can make it a habit to recite a few empowering affirmations every morning when you roll out of bed. You can recite them in the shower, during your morning commute, while you’re working out, as you’re standing in line at the grocery store, and whenever you have a few quiet moments of peace.

So there really is no “right” place or time to use affirmations. Find a practice that works best for you.

In the beginning, you might need to make it a consistent habit to remind yourself to use affirmations. If you find that you’re having a hard time remembering to recite affirmations, you can set up phone reminders during the day so you don’t forget.

Another great practice is to write empowering affirmations on post-it notes and stick them in places you’ll see throughout the day.

I mentioned some of these above, but here’s a list of places and times when you might find it useful to use affirmations:

    • Upon waking up in the morning
    • In the shower
    • Getting ready for work
    • While driving/commuting
    • Working out
    • Taking your dog on a walk
    • Cooking dinner
    • In your daily journaling entry
    • Standing in line at the grocery store
    • Brushing your teeth
    • Settling down to sleep
    • Before (and during) a big event
    • Whenever you find yourself being overly self-critical

I firmly believe that when it comes to any self-care practice, whether it’s using affirmations, meditating, working out, or even allowing yourself an evening of rest, it’s when we feel like we don’t have time that we usually need these things the most.

So if you feel like you’re too busy for affirmations, see if you can take just a few moments to step back. Breathe. Then, find the words that you need most in that moment and affirm them to yourself.

    How To Make Affirmations Work

Affirmations aren’t difficult to use in your daily life, but there are a few key tips and tricks to making affirmations work so that you’re actually getting the most out of them. Here are some best practices for using affirmations.

    Stay In The Present Tense

The reason “I am” statements have become the cornerstone of most affirmation practices is because they’re firmly rooted in the present tense. When you say, “I am worthy,” you’re affirming that you are worthy right now, just as you are. It’s not, “I was worthy before I got that bad grade on that test.” And it’s also not, “I will finally be worthy when I get hired for my dream job.” You are worthy right now. Always.

    Feel The Positive Emotions

An affirmation isn’t just about the words you’re reciting. The emotions behind the words are just as important. These positive emotions shouldn’t feel superficial. The confidence and strength you feel when you say an empowering affirmation should come from a deep inner power. Whether you say the words silently or out loud, breathe them into your body and let them fill every cell of your being.

    Don’t Force It

And to go with the bulletpoint above, an affirmation only truly works if you believe what you’re saying. The truth is, not all affirmations are going to resonate, and that’s okay. Don’t force yourself into reciting an affirmation because you feel like you’re “supposed” to. You’ll know whether the words are right for you by the way they make you feel.

    Use Modifications

Now, there may be some affirmations you really do want to recite with confidence, but something isn’t clicking.

Maybe you realize that deep down, you don’t really believe the words. And that’s okay.

Think of it this process like climbing a ladder.

Let’s use this affirmation as an example: “I am beautiful, ravishing, and radiant.”

Maybe you try to say it, but the words don’t feel super comfortable for you. You notice doubts popping up in the back of your mind. First, don’t judge yourself. This doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you. Know that this is totally normal.

In these situations, I like to modify the affirmations to work for me. One of my favorite modifiers is to use the phrase, “I am open to . . .” So in this situation, you might say, “I am open to seeing myself as beautiful, ravishing, and radiant.

Use your modification for a while until you feel ready to take the next step. Maybe the next rung on the ladder is, “I am starting to see how beautiful, ravishing, and radiant I truly am.

You can take as many steps up the ladder as you need before you reach the original affirmation. This is your journey, so you get to set the pace.

Here are some of my favorite modifiers for affirmations:

    • “I am open to . . .”
    • “I am willing to . . .”
    • “I am learning how . . .”
    • “I am becoming . . .”

You are allowed to slow down.

You work hard all week to finish your to-do lists while meeting deadlines and tackling unexpected challenges that arise throughout the day. You pour your energy into taking care of others. You give so much of yourself to the outer world every single day.

Now, it’s time to let your inner being take a soulful sigh of relief.

Maybe you don’t automatically get a break just because it’s the weekend. You may still have chores to complete, people to take care of, and errands to run. But it’s still important to remember that you, yourself, deserve your own time, care, and attention.

You deserve to be put at the top of your priority list every once in a while.

You deserve to be seen, heard, felt, and acknowledged.

So even if it’s just for an hour or two, I hope you pencil in time for yourself to practice self-care. This may look different week-to-week. One week, self-care might look like a nice bubble bath and a good book. The next week, self-care might look like going out to dinner with good friends.

To know what type of self-care would best serve you, ask yourself, “What does my soul need today?”

Maybe it’s time to yourself. Maybe it’s time with others. Maybe it’s laughter. Maybe it’s a little extra gentle self-love and self-compassion.

Whatever it may be, find the thing you need most and give it to yourself.

And always remember, self-care isn’t selfish. This is a kindness for yourself and others. Because when you take care of yourself, you’re able to offer your full, authentic self to the people you love.

Below, you’ll find 35 Saturday affirmations for rest, relaxation, and self-care. Let these affirmations remind you that you are always, always worthy of the time and attention you so willingly offer to others.

    Embracing The True You

What exactly does it mean to embrace the true you?

Loving and embracing the true you means peeling back the layers of everything you’re not and standing in the truth of who you are. It means owning the things that make you different, knowing that these are exactly the qualities that make you perfectly, uniquely you.

Embracing the true you means loving yourself exactly as you are in this moment, even as you continue to grow, change, evolve, and transform—not into someone else but into a fuller and deeper version of who you truly are.

When you embrace the true you, you know that who you are, exactly as you are, is who you’re meant to be. And this person you are now is inherently worthy of all good things. You are worthy of love. Of peace. Of abundance. Of freedom. Of success. Of true, deeply felt happiness.

And it’s knowing that nothing about you is a mistake. You were created exactly as you are because who you are is who this world needs.

    How To Use Sleep Affirmations

Positive affirmations are empowering statements designed to help you cultivate deeper self-love and self-belief. By repeating positive affirmations throughout your day, you consciously choose how to direct your energy. Instead of letting the outside world dictate how you feel, positive affirmations allow you to remain in control of your own thoughts and feelings.

Sleep affirmations work the same way as other positive affirmations. Instead of stressing about the past or worrying about tomorrow, they allow you to harness more calming and uplifting energy in the present moment as you wind down for the day.

And this is extremely powerful—to fall asleep with thoughts of peace, gratitude, and joy instead of stress, worry, and fear. To consciously choose to let go of anything that doesn’t serve your mind, body, and spirit. To create a beautiful inner world, helping you to manifest an outer world that becomes a reflection of what you’ve created within.

Sleep affirmations aren’t necessarily a way to fall asleep more quickly, though they may help as they allow you to stop worrying and stressing about things that happened during the day or what might happen tomorrow.

But what makes sleep affirmations truly powerful is that they can help reframe your subconscious mind. Before you fall asleep, you can plant seeds of hope, love, and trust within. These seeds will grow deeper and begin to sprout while you sleep. Soon, these positive thoughts and feelings will be so ingrained within you that you’ll notice yourself thinking and feeling differently during the day.

And then you’ll see that your outside world is a reflection of your inner one. And that’s when the real magic begins to happen.

It’s one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to begin changing your life—simply by harnessing the power of your thoughts.

And all it takes is a few moments before bed to get started.

Below, you’ll find 45 positive sleep affirmations divided into three categories: affirmations for peace, affirmations for gratitude, and affirmations for manifestation.

I’ve also included resources throughout the article to help you protect your energy, cultivate more inner peace, and manifest the life you truly desire.

And don’t forget to download and save your free PDF of these sleep affirmations below so you can continue to use them each night before you fall asleep.

    How To Protect Your Energy

Protecting your energy is a profound act of self-care.

To understand the importance of protecting your energy, it helps to understand the 12 Laws of the Universe. The spiritual laws fo the universe explain exactly how energy plays a part in our daily lives.

According to the Law of Vibration, everything and every being is in a constant state of vibration, always emitting frequencies and energies that we can’t see on the surface. So you emit your own energy, just like the device you’re reading this on also has its own energetic frequency.

Once you understand how different types of energy feel within, you have the power to tune your energy to your desired vibrational frequency.

So if you step back and realize you’re emitting the energy of stress or worry, you might take a deep breath and visualize how you’d like to feel. What kind of energy do you want to emit out into the world?

If you want to replace stress with calm, you might try a breathing exercise, repeat some positive affirmations, walk outside to stand in the sunshine, and do other practices to help you tune your vibrational frequency to the calm and peaceful energy you desire.

(Note that this doesn’t mean suppressing your stress or worry. You’re allowed to acknowledge these feelings—and especially to acknowledge the source of these feelings. But ultimately, you’re the gatekeeper of your own energy. You get to choose your own energy, no matter what’s happening in your outer world.)

Understanding your own energy is especially important when it comes to your daily interactions with other people.

According to the Law of Perpetual Transmutation of Energy, all energy in the universe is constantly fluctuating and changing from one form to another.

Most of the time, we don’t see these changes because they’re happening at a cellular level.

What’s important here is understanding that your vibrational frequency has the power to affect another’s, and another’s vibrational frequency can affect yours.

So if you have an interaction with someone who’s emitting a lot of negative energy, their low energy can bring your own energy down. Alternatively, someone in a really cheery mood can lift your energy with a single positive interaction.

Because energy can be so easily shifted and influenced, it’s important to have practices to protect your energy so you can consciously choose what you allow in and what you keep out.

And that’s what’s most important here: knowing that you’re always in charge of your energy. Other people’s beliefs and emotions may affect you, but ultimately, you’re the one who gets to choose how you feel.

Below, you’ll find 30 powerful protection affirmations to guard your energy and help you to remain calm, centered, and stable, no matter what’s happening in the world around you.

    Your Art Matters

    “My words matter.”

I think, maybe more than anything else, these three words have inspired me to share my words with the world, even when it felt like nobody was listening.

As creatives, most of us go through periods of feeling unimportant. Does the work we do really matter? Is anyone listening?

Most of us are looking to the outside world for validation, but I gently urge you to not look out there for answers. Don’t measure your value by numbers and statistics.

    Look within.

Do you feel deep inside like your art matters?

What does your heart tell you?

When I first started my website and social media accounts for my writing, I told myself that if only one person found meaning and value in the words I shared, that would be enough. I wrote for that one person.

That person who I imagined was kind of like me—with a dream in their heart and a desire to follow it, even though they were absolutely terrified.

If I had judged my value by just external statistics in the beginning, I probably would’ve quit after just a couple months of trying. This website received zero traffic when I first started out. I’d get a handful of likes on my Instagram posts. It felt like nothing I was doing or saying was really making a difference.

But still, my heart kept whispering, Keep going.

So I did, despite the fact that I didn’t know if anyone was on the other side listening.

And then, one day, that one person appeared in my email inbox.

A woman who had been going through a really difficult time. She said she stayed up until two in the morning reading all of my chakra articles, and for the first time in a long time, she felt excited about something.

Eventually, more emails and messages came, and my traffic increased beyond what I had ever expected.

But still, even now when I create something new, I think about that one person. And every time I send something out into the world, I think, “If this makes a difference in just one person’s life, that will be enough.”

So I hope you know that your art matters. Your creations matter. What you put out into the world matters.

And if you’re having a difficult time, don’t try to make everyone happy. Don’t try to be everything to everyone.

Just create for that one person.

Because there is someone out there who needs exactly what you have to offer.

Below, you’ll find 35 positive affirmations for artists, creatives, makers, and visionaries. These affirmations are meant to uplift, inspire, and remind you that you have access to an infinite source of inspiration, innovation, and creativity. And they’re also here to remind you that you matter.

    What Is Mindfulness?

The simplest definition for mindfulness is the art of noticing.

To live in a state of mindfulness means to be aware and present in this current moment, allowing you to notice what’s going on within and outside of you. And even more importantly, it’s rooted in non-judgment. That means that instead of forming opinions about what you see, you simply notice with objective, non-judgmental awareness.

To illustrate this, imagine you’re out on a nature walk. Remaining in the present moment, you notice the colors of the trees surrounding you. You notice the clouds hanging out in the sky above you. You notice the sounds the birds make and the coolness of the breeze against your skin.

You also notice how you’re feeling inside—maybe you feel peaceful and serene, or maybe you’re feeling a little stressed and off-center. You acknowledge how you’re feeling and keep walking, accepting these feelings as they are.

This seems simple enough, but consider how easy it is to get lost in your own thoughts: to replay events from the past or worry about the uncertain future. It could be very easy to get through the entire walk without even remembering what you saw, felt, or heard.

Mindfulness allows you to stay grounded in the present moment, but it’s also a little more; in addition to your conscious presence, it also allows you to refrain from criticism or judgment. Through mindfulness practices, you can notice things in your inner and outer worlds without labelling them as right or wrong.

For instance, if you noticed that you felt a little stressed and off-center on your walk, you wouldn’t label it as being “bad.” You would simply allow yourself to accept it, exactly as it is, without an urgent need to fix or change anything.

Mindfulness can be a profound practice for decreasing stress, improving your mood, increasing positive emotions, and improving your overall well-being. Meditation can help you cultivate more mindfulness in your daily life, but you don’t have to meditate to be mindful—mindfulness begins simply by paying attention to what’s happening inside and outside of you (again—without judgment).

Below, you’ll find 35 mindfulness affirmations to help you remain grounded in the present moment. These affirmations are designed to create a sense of peace and stability, reminding you that everything you’re thinking, feeling, and experiencing right now is exactly right; nothing is wrong unless you label it as wrong.

    How To Use Daily Affirmations

(You can skip straight to the affirmations by clicking here.)

I started using daily affirmations a few years ago as a way to focus my mindset on positive thinking in the morning. At the time, I was working full-time in a corporate office job, and every morning, I found myself dreading going to work.

I didn’t like going into the office. I wasn’t excited about the work I did. And each morning, I just knew that the next eight to ten hours weren’t going to be fun

Once I began meditating regularly, though, my mindset slowly started to shift. I realized it wasn’t the external circumstances at my job that were making me miserable; it was my own negative thinking.

Because I only focused on the bad, that’s all I ever saw: bad stuff piling up, one thing after another.

Daily affirmations became a way for me to alter my attitude and mindset. I began by affirming my unconditional worthiness. I affirmed that I had the ability to accomplish all my biggest goals. That I was strong and powerful. That I could do hard things.

Eventually, I began incorporating Law of Attraction affirmations into my daily routine, and I even used affirmations while I was working out.

Soon, something began to shift for me. The more I used these daily affirmations, the more they became imprinted in my subconscious mind. I wasn’t just saying these feel-good words for the sake of it—I truly believed them.

And all around me, the world slowly began to change.

Instead of limits, I saw possibilities. Opportunities opened up for me. The universe responded to my positive vibration with even more positivity.

And I learned that when I embrace my own infinite worthiness, the universe will provide me with experiences and opportunities that are truly worthy of me.

Because positive affirmations have made such a profound difference in my life, it’s been important to me to share the affirmations I use most with my readers and followers. There are thousands of affirmations posted across this website, and I also post daily affirmations on my Instagram stories every morning.

So how exactly should you use daily affirmations to change your life? Read on for tips to help you get started.

    Daily Affirmations: Best Practices

    • First and foremost, when you’re reciting your daily affirmations, don’t just say the words; truly feel them deep within. Affirmations should always begin in the body, even before you’ve recited the words aloud or in your head. So if you want to affirm that you are worthy, begin with feeling a deep, undeniable sense of worthiness within.
    • After you recite your daily affirmations in the morning, don’t let it end there. Continue to repeat your affirmations throughout the day. Carry these positive feelings with you as you complete your daily tasks.
    • Write down some of the affirmations that resonate most with you on post-it notes and stick them in places you’ll see throughout the day (for instance, around your computer monitor, on your bathroom mirror, or even inside your wallet or purse). You can also set phone notifications with positive affirmations written on the screen to go off intermittently. Every time you see one of these notifications, recite the words either internally or aloud, feeling the positive emotions of the words inside your body.
    • Practice mirror work regularly. Stand in front of the mirror, look yourself in the eyes, and affirm the thing you need to hear most in that moment. (That you’re beautiful. That you’re worthy. That you are always, always enough.)

Below, you’ll find 30 of my favorite daily affirmations to repeat each morning. These affirmations are designed to help you step into your undeniable worthiness, approach the day with a positive mindset, and nudge you in the direction of your truest, most heartfelt dreams and desires.

As you repeat these affirmations, feel the power of the words deep within. Remember that it’s not enough just to say that you are worthy; allow yourself to truly feel your inherent worthiness in every cell of your being.

    Anxiety During the Holiday Season

While the holidays are usually celebrated as a time for love, gratitude, and community, they can often be a heavy and difficult time for many people.

You may feel anxiety about social gatherings. Or maybe you’re experiencing anxiety due to loneliness. The abundance of food may cause you to feel anxious, losing your sense of calm and stability. Gift giving and money worries can also cause anxiety for many. And sometimes, past experiences may cause you to dread the holidays rather than look forward to them.

No matter how you’re feeling, I want you to know this: it’s okay to feel exactly how you feel. It’s okay to make space for all your feelings without trying to cover them up or pretend they don’t exist.

So please, don’t label these feelings as bad or wrong. Don’t try to suppress them for the sake of false positivity.

Tend to your anxiety with gentle love and compassion.

Step outside and take deep breaths when social events begin to feel overwhelming. Give yourself grace when the plethora of food choices causes your chest to tighten and feel heavy. Love yourself a little extra when you’re worried about money. Prioritize taking care of your whole self: mind, body, and soul.
