Located at the base of your spine, your root chakra is your energy center for safety, stability, and staying grounded. You may also hear it referred to as your first chakra, as it’s the lowest energy center in your body.
As the chakra located closest to the earth, the root chakra represents your foundation. This is where you build your inner strength and power so that the flow of energy can easily move freely throughout your entire body.
When your root chakra is balanced, this means that your basic needs are being met: food, shelter, warmth, rest, security, and safety. It also means that you have a good relationship with your body and that you recognize your body’s ability to support and take care of you.
A balanced root chakra also signifies that you feel firm in your place of life. Now, to be clear, this doesn’t mean you have to settle or that you can’t have hopes and dreams for something more. Rather, it means that in this moment, you know you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. It signifies that you trust the path ahead and aren’t living in a space of worry and fear.
If you want to learn more about practices to balance your root chakra, you can check out my post on root chakra healing practices here.
Below, you’ll find 35 root chakra affirmations to help you feel strong, grounded, and secure. You can use these root chakra affirmations in meditation, or you can save them and repeat them whenever your energy feels out of balance and/or misaligned.

50 Positive Affirmations for Work Confidence and Success
Do you find yourself approaching your workday with a pessimistic attitude and negative thoughts? Do you often feel stressed and agitated while you’re working? Below, discover 50 positive affirmations for work that will help you to remain calm, confident, and centered no matter what’s happening in your external world.
Pin this for later! 50 Positive Affirmations for Work – Remain Calm and Confident During Your Workday Creating a Positive Work Mindset
I used to spend every morning as I got ready for work drowning in nonstop negativity.
At the time, I wasn’t doing work that I felt passionate about. Every morning, I’d show up to the office as early as possible, one of the first ones there, just so I could get the day over with and get out of there as soon as I could.
Deep within, I felt empty and lost. I knew this job wasn’t for me, but I had no idea how to get out of it. It paid me decently, plus offered good benefits. That should’ve been enough, right? It felt selfish to desire anything more.
Maybe this is just how life is supposed to be, I thought. Maybe nobody is supposed to be happy in their jobs. You just show up for forty years and put in your time until you finally get to retire.
On top of that, I really, really didn’t like my boss. In the morning, as I got ready for work, I’d run through all of the things he’d done recently that made me unhappy. Then, I’d play stories of made-up scenarios in my head where I’d picture him saying and doing even more frustrating things to make me angry.
So it’s not a stretch to say I’d spend a good one to two hours every morning swimming in a sea of pessimism, gloom, and negativity.
And that was all before I even walked out my front door.
Looking back, I can see just how much I allowed external factors to influence my mindset.
Because the truth is, even if I didn’t like my job, the job itself had no inherent power over my emotions. And even if my boss wasn’t my favorite person, he didn’t have power over my energy, either.
I am the only one in charge of my energy.
Every single day, I choose how I feel.
Not my boss. Not my coworkers. Not customers or clients.
Only I can choose what energy comes in and what goes out.
It wasn’t until I dedicated myself to a consistent morning routine that included meditation, journaling, and positive affirmations that I started to notice shifts in my mindset. More than anything, these practices showed me just how much I was letting negativity control my life.
And it was then that I decided to make a change: to take back my story and not let anything outside of me dictate how I feel.
Do you work in a job you love? Or is it one that pays the bills but doesn’t feel like it’s where you’re meant to be? Are you miserable in your job, only showing up for a consistent paycheck?
No matter your circumstances, you are the only one who can determine what energy you let in, and you’re also the only one who can decide what energy you put back out in the world.
Know this:
You deserve to work in a career you absolutely love.
You deserve to be excited every single morning about the day ahead.
You deserve to fall more and more in love with what you do every single day.
And if you’re not there yet, that’s okay. Choose to view your current position as an opportunity for growth. Find little things every day to be grateful for.
Instead of falling into the trap of stress and anxiety, take deep breaths and allow a wave of calm to wash over your body.
Trust that you are exactly where you’re meant to be right now, and this is leading you to somewhere greater.
How to Use These Affirmations
The 50 positive affirmations for work below are designed to instill positivity, confidence, and peace within. These affirmations are meant to remind you of your inner power and give you the courage and strength to face anything that comes up during your workday.
Some of the affirmations are written to help you cultivate a positive mindset as you get ready for work, and others are midday pick-me-ups that you can use while you’re at work.
Here are some easy yet effective ways to use positive affirmations:
- Write down 3 to 5 positive affirmations every morning.
- Repeat positive affirmations while showering, getting ready for the day, and on your morning commute.
- Set up phone notifications that will pop up intermittently throughout the day with uplifting affirmations written on them.
- Stick post-it notes around your workspace filled with empowering affirmations.
- Make a pact with a friend that you’ll text uplifting messages to each other throughout the day.
- Create a Daily Affirmations board on Pinterest that you can scroll through every time you need a quick pick-me-up.
- Say three positive affirmations every night before going to bed.
(I also post daily affirmations on my Instagram stories every morning, so be sure to connect with me there, too!)
Additionally, start paying attention to your thoughts. Whenever you realize you’re having a negative thought that doesn’t serve or support your total well-being, take control of your thoughts and choose to recite empowering affirmations to yourself instead. You’ll be amazed at how quickly and profoundly your whole world shifts once you start cultivating a more positive mindset.

42 Body Positive Affirmations for Total Self-Acceptance
Accepting and even loving your body can be a lifelong journey for many, and while it may feel difficult some days, you are absolutely worthy of loving yourself exactly as you are. In this post, discover 42 powerful body-positive affirmations to cultivate unconditional self-acceptance and total self-love.
Pin this for later! 42 Body Positive Affirmations for Total Self-Acceptance Discovering Affirmations
In 2014, my introduction to affirmations came in the form of body positive affirmations.
I had found a list of 100 body positive affirmations somewhere online and decided to copy it and email it to myself. While I would love to tell you that this discovery propelled me into a journey of total and complete self-love, I’m pretty sure that email stayed at the bottom of my inbox for the next couple years, untouched and ignored.
While I wanted to accept my body completely, I had a hard time accepting myself if I didn’t fit into a perfect box. I really only wanted to love my body on the condition that I could change it and mold it into something that society would deem beautiful.
The following years were filled with hardship and heartbreak as I battled with the girl I saw in the mirror, but I wouldn’t trade those years for anything as they allowed me to learn and grow into the confident, self-loving woman I am now.
Back then, I also had no idea how to truly use affirmations. I saw them as nice and uplifting words but didn’t understand their inherent power. I wasn’t sure how to get the words on the screen to resonate inside me.
And if you’re in that place, too, that’s okay. I’ve included some tips below to help you with using body positive affirmations so that they truly resonate with you.
I recommend using the body-positive affirmations in this post in tandem with other types of affirmations, like these affirmations for self-love and these ones for self-confidence. I find that body positive affirmations can be most powerful when used with other types of affirmations that don’t just focus on your body but on all parts of you: your heart, your spirit, your kindness, and your inherent and undeniable worthiness.
How to Use Body Positive Affirmations
While the notes I’m about to give are certainly true for all types of affirmations, I want to emphasize them especially for body positive affirmations because this can be a sensitive subject for many.
You may come to an affirmation in the list below that just feels off. What do I mean by that? Here’s an example:
Imagine that you’re reading the affirmation, “My body is truly beautiful.” You recite it, trying to feel the positive emotions associated with these words, but in the back of your mind, you hear a little voice that says, yeah right.
While you definitely want to be able to say this affirmation with confidence, you’re still on a path of healing your body insecurities, and you’re not quite yet at a place where you can assert that your body is truly beautiful.
And that’s okay.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with you if you experience discomfort with any of the affirmations below (or any affirmations at all, for that matter).
First, if you experience this, release any self-judgment or self-criticism over your discomfort. Know that it’s okay to be exactly where you are in your healing journey. Have compassion for where you currently are, and remember that you don’t have to race to the finish line all at once.
You have the right to take this one step at a time, at your own pace.
When I discover an affirmation that I don’t feel completely comfortable with, I like to employ what I call the Ladder Method. In this method, I take a step back from the original affirmation and alter it in a way that feels more comfortable for me.
For instance, I might use the phrases I am open to . . . or I am willing to . . . in my newly altered affirmation.
Let’s try this with the affirmation I used above: My body is truly beautiful.
How can I alter this in a way that will feel more comfortable for me? I could say, I am open to seeing all the ways in which my body is truly beautiful. Or, I am willing to believe that my body is truly beautiful.
You might use your altered affirmation for a few weeks before taking the next step closer to the original affirmation. Your next step might be something like this: Even though I don’t always see it, I know in my heart that my body is truly beautiful.
Feel empowered to modify any of the affirmations below so that they’ll feel more comfortable for you. It’s also completely okay to skip an affirmation and choose to solely focus on the ones that feel good to you. In time, you might decide to come back to the list and see if any of the other affirmations begin to resonate a little more.
Remember: take this at your own pace, and show yourself unconditional kindness and compassion, no matter what.

45 Positive Affirmations for Happiness and True Joy
In this post, discover 45 positive affirmations for happiness and joy. These affirmations are designed to help you cultivate a mindset of true joy and appreciation and remind you that you are always worthy of lasting happiness and abundance, no matter what.

When I turned five years old, I remember blowing out the candles on my birthday cake and making a wish for limitless candy that I could eat whenever I wanted. M&M’s were my favorite, but I wasn’t super picky: chocolate candy, fruity candy, hard candies and lollipops . . . I’d take it all.
Okay, maybe not all. Black licorice and spicy candies were a hard pass.
As the next couple years passed by, I’d continue to make wishes for new toys, CDs, and my own stereo so I could lock myself in my room and jam out to Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys without interruptions.
I don’t remember when the transition happened, but at some point, a realization had occurred to me. Toys, CDs, and limitless candy were all cool, but what if there was a way that I could have all of that and more?
What if there was one word that could give me everything I had ever wanted?
Happiness.
If I wished for happiness, I thought, that meant that I’d get everything I wanted without there being a catch. I’d get all the things I’d been dreaming of, plus my friends and family would be healthy and happy, too.
It was a win-win for everyone.
My concept of happiness was simple when I was a sweet ten-year-old who wanted nothing more than to ride bikes and read books and jump on my best friend’s trampoline. After I graduated high school and began navigating my way through college, I spent a lot of time relearning what happiness truly meant, often overcomplicating it and sometimes believing it would always be just out of reach.
I’ve come full circle since then, once again simplifying my definition of happiness, but I’ve also learned something that I didn’t quite understand as a young girl.
My happiness never came from all the candy or toys or CDs or any of the things I was given. Sure, those things brought me fleeting moments of joy, but lasting happiness didn’t come from things.
Lasting happiness, I learned, comes from within.
I’ve learned that happiness comes when I make happiness a priority, and even more importantly, happiness comes when I choose it.
And what I’ve discovered most of all is that happiness is not a result of getting everything I want; happiness comes when I feel grateful for everything I already have.
When I view my life from a perspective of appreciation and abundance rather than scarcity and lack, happiness and joy flow effortlessly into my inner and outer worlds.
Below, you’ll find 45 positive affirmations for happiness and joy. These affirmations are designed to help you cultivate a mindset of true joy and appreciation, allowing you to feel grateful for all that you have in this moment. They’re also meant to remind you that you are worthy and deserving of happiness right now. Happiness is your birthright, and you were created to live a life of pure joy and abundance.

50 Monday Morning Affirmations To Embrace The New Week
Are you tired of dreading Mondays? Do you want to change your mindset and embrace the fresh start and new beginning that each Monday has to offer? Check out the 50 Monday morning affirmations below to set a positive tone for the week ahead!
Pin this! 50 Monday Morning Affirmations to Embrace a New Week and New Beginnings A Case of the Mondays
Monday morning.
Typically, these two words are met with audible groans and thinly veiled resentment.
If you’re like me, Monday has been something of a supervillain throughout your life. Growing up, it represents the end of a weekend of freedom and the return to school with all of its structure and rules. And as you get older, well, that doesn’t change very much, but now school has been replaced with a 40+ hour work week and loads of responsibility.
And the thing about this supervillain? There is no defeating it.
No matter how hard you may wish, there’s nothing in the universe that can cause Monday to just magically go away.
But . . . what if there was a way to defeat it?
No, you can’t make Mondays disappear into oblivion, but what if you could do something even better?
What if you could make Monday the hero of your story?
At the end of every year, we strap on our dancing shoes (okay, maybe our fuzzy socks) and change into our best outfits (or favorite pajamas) and celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of a new one. A new year is a blank slate. It represents fresh starts and new beginnings.
So what if we treated Mondays like this as well?
Monday is the beginning of a brand new week, and it, too, is a blank slate. You can create anything with a brand new Monday. It’s the ultimate fresh start, and the truly incredible thing is, we get to experience it 52 times a year.
Monday sets the tone for your entire week, so why not take back your power and embrace it with positivity? Flip the phrase “a case of the Mondays” on its head. Let it be something wondrous and kind of magical.
You get to choose how you want to greet this new week.
Choose joy. Choose wonder. Choose delight.
Choose to view Monday as a miracle. Let that feeling wash over you, and step into Monday with enthusiasm, knowing you are exactly where you’re meant to be, creating the beautiful life of your dreams.

65 Positive Affirmations for Success
Success is your birthright, and you are absolutely worthy and deserving of experiencing success in every area of your life. In this article, discover 65 positive affirmations for success to inspire you to confidently step forward in the direction of your goals and dreams.
Pin this for later! 65 Positive Affirmations for Success Defining Success
What is success?
The truth is, I can’t answer that question.
Not for you, at least.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned over the past few years is that we each have the right to define success on our own terms.
So when you ask the question, “What is success?” the only person who can give you an answer that feels true and authentic for you is you.
Success may mean meeting or exceeding an income goal. It may mean a promotion or external recognition of your hard work. It might also mean your family is safe and healthy, and your home is filled with joy and love.
Success may mean that you took the next step toward living the life of your dreams.
And still, success may mean letting go. Success may mean surrender. Success may mean you didn’t get what you wanted, but you can see how maybe each obstacle and perceived failure is leading you to somewhere better than you had imagined.
Success may mean you woke up today, and you put one foot on the ground, and then the other, and here you are, still breathing. Still living. Still trying, no matter how heavy the air around you feels.
And that – that is worth everything.
So as you read through these positive affirmations for success, give yourself permission to define success on your own terms. Think about what success really means to you.
Not to your boss. Not to your parents. Not to the world outside yourself.
But to you.
And know that whatever your definition of success is, you are worthy of experiencing it fully.
You are worthy of a life of true joy, freedom, and bliss. You are worthy of the success you’ve been dreaming about, even if it looks different than what someone else would define as “successful.”
Follow the call of your soul. Listen to your own inner voice. Step forward on the path your heart is leading you on.
And know that you are always, always worthy of your deepest dreams and desires.

43 Creativity Affirmations To Inspire Your Imagination
You are a talented and prolific creator, and you deserve to life a life of infinite joy and abundant creativity. In this article, discover 43 creativity affirmations to uplift your spirit and inspire your limitless imagination.
Pin this for later! 43 Creativity Affirmations to Inspire Your Limitless Imagination A Creative Life
For as long as I can remember, creativity has played a central role in my life.
Growing up, I lived in my imagination. I started writing short stories when I was seven, and some of my earliest writing memories were creating my own “deleted scenes” to my then all-time favorite movie: Spice World.
As a kid, it was easy and effortless to use my limitless imagination to dream beyond the confines of my physical reality. I never had to force new and inspired ideas to come to me; they just came when I called them.
There were no limits to what I could dream of and create.
As I got older, though, I began to lose touch with my imagination. While I’d still write and draw and seek new creative outlets, I began to let limiting beliefs sink into my consciousness.
Here were some of those limiting beliefs:
- That my creativity was limited.
- That my creativity was only worthwhile if it was subjectively good and pleasing to others.
- That “bad” creativity was not worthwhile.
- That there was a limited amount of creative ideas within me.
- That creativity was hard.
- That there are people who are just more talented than me, and thus, their creative endeavors are more worthwhile than mine.
Do any of these ring true for you?
It’s been a long but worthwhile journey to release these limiting beliefs and realign with my inner child – the girl who knew that she could change the world with just her imagination.
This is what I now know is true, not just for me, but for you, too:
- You have access to an infinite abundance of inspired ideas and limitless creativity.
- Your creativity is worthwhile, no matter what others may think.
- You are a creative being, and it is right for you to create.
- You are good enough.
- Anything you can imagine, you can create.
- You are limitless.
Below, you’ll find 43 affirmations to inspire your divine creativity. Use these affirmations when you’re in a flow state to remain open to the flow of your infinite creativity, and recite them when you’re feeling blocked to realign with your truths. Additionally, I’ve included some tips that have helped me to open myself up to my inner creative and release blockages when they arise.

Tips to Inspire Creativity
Release Perfectionism
Perfectionism is the enemy of all creative endeavors. For many of us, if we worked on a single project until it was perfect, we’d be working on it forever.
But there comes a time when we have to let something go and know that what we’ve done is enough.
I’ll even take this one step further and say that not only should you release perfectionism, but there’s something kind of wonderful about embracing imperfections. There’s beauty to be found in the broken, flawed, and imperfect pieces we create.
Don’t Edit
Not while you’re creating, at least. If you’re in the flow of creativity, editing is one of the fastest ways to break the flow. Save editing for the end. When you do this, you’ll often be surprised by what you come up with.
Let Yourself Be Bad
This goes hand-in-hand with Don’t Edit. If you only create when you know you can produce something subjectively good, you’re unconsciously building blockages for yourself. But when you embrace all the flaws and imperfections of your creation, the “bad” often leads to something wonderful.
Try Something New
Writing is my creative outlet of choice, but sometimes, I need a break after writing for hours every single day. Letting myself paint, draw, color, and find other creative practices is like a sigh of relief for my soul. It replenishes my creative energy and never fails to produce new writing ideas I wouldn’t have thought of without these other outlets.
Put Away Your Phone
This is something I’ve had to learn to do, as I found that whenever I paused for a moment while I was writing, I’d instinctively reach for my phone. Now, I try to dedicate time purely to creating without any external distractions. This has vastly improved my creative flow, and I’ll admit, it’s kind of nice not to have my phone in my peripheral vision all the time.
Heal Your Chakras
Located in your lower abdomen, below the navel, the Sacral Chakra is your body’s energy center for creativity, joy, passion, and play. And the Third Eye Chakra, located between your eyebrows, is your body’s energy center for insight, intuition, and imagination. When these energy centers are open and balanced, you are aligned with your most creative and inspired self.

50 Positive Workout Affirmations To Affirm Your Strength
Mindset is key when it comes to working out, and these positive workout affirmations are designed to empower and motivate you before, during, and after your workout! Below, discover 50 positive workout affirmations to affirm your undeniable strength, power, and resilience. Plus, learn how to overcome “gymtimidation” so you can step into the gym with courage and confidence.

Want to skip straight to the affirmations? Click here. Or skip ahead to learn about seven powerful ways for overcoming “gymtimidation” here!
If you’ve ever set out to start a consistent exercise routine, you know that the hardest part of the workout often isn’t physical; it’s your own mental barriers that can hold you back from reaching the success you’re capable of achieving.
I’ve run one full marathon and four half marathons. I’ve gone on hikes that required me to climb thousands of feet of elevation. I’ve lifted weights I didn’t think I could lift, and I’ve stretched and moved my body in ways I didn’t think was possible.
And while clearly, my body played an integral role in achieving these feats, I needed more than just my body to get me through the longest miles and toughest climbs; I needed that voice in my mind repeating over and over again, yes I can.
On the flip side, I’ve also abandoned runs a mile or two in because my brain just couldn’t get into it, even when I felt rested and strong. And I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stopped in the middle of a set or skipped stretching, just because I didn’t feel like it.
Know that I’m not judging myself for these moments, because they were all powerful learning experiences. I know that consistency always beats perfection, so it’s okay to be imperfect sometimes as long as I keep growing and showing up for myself as best as I can.
Mindset is key in all that we do, including working out. If I tell myself that I can’t run one more mile, then that becomes my truth, whether or not my body was actually capable of going farther.
I’ve found that reciting positive affirmations and empowering mantras to myself has been key in harnessing the power of my mindset when I work out. However, what I say to myself before my workout is different than what I say during my workout, and both are different from what I say after my workout.
So I’ve divided the affirmations below into pre-workout, during workout, and post-workout affirmations. The pre-workout affirmations are designed to empower you to show up and choose to exercise from a place of self-love and self-respect. The post-workout affirmations are to help you affirm that you absolutely did enough, no matter what, and also to gently remind you to prioritize rest and recovery.
You’ll notice that the affirmations that are designed for you to recite during your workout are a little shorter, and that’s because I’ve found that when I’m exercising, I tend be more motivated by short and punchy phrases than long sentences. They’re a lot easier to remember, too!
I encourage you to use these positive workout affirmations from a place of total love for yourself, knowing you are strong, powerful, and more than enough.
And be sure to stick around after the affirmations to discover seven powerful tips for overcoming “gymtimidation” and hitting the gym with confidence!
A Quick Note
Please know that the words above and the affirmations below are not meant to guilt you into working out, ESPECIALLY if your body is tired and needs rest and recovery time. Taking care of your body also means taking days off, getting enough sleep, and sometimes replacing your difficult workout with more gentle movement that feels good to you. Honor your body by listening to it and giving it the care it needs. If you’ve already carved out time to workout but know that you need to rest, I wholeheartedly recommend using the time to do a loving self-care practice that will realign the energy of your mind, body, and spirit.

7 Ways To Boost Your Confidence At The Gym
Going to the gym can be a vulnerable experience. You might look around and think everyone else knows exactly what they’re doing, while you’re not even sure where to start. Maybe you even worry that other gym-goers are judging you.
This feeling of fear and anxiety about working out in front of others has been termed “gymtimidation.” If you struggle with this anxiety, you’re not alone. Many of the people you see confidently taking up space in the gym suffered from gymtimidation at one point, and maybe they still do, even if they don’t show it.
There are several ways to overcome your fears and hit the gym with confidence, which we’ll explore below.
- Stick To A Routine
Rather than going to the gym every once in a while, you’ll want to build trips to the gym into your daily routine. Stick to a schedule that works for you and visit the gym consistently in order to make exercise a healthy habit.
- Focus On Yourself
Oftentimes, anxiety at the gym results from worries about whether other people are judging you. However, it’s important to remember that the people around you are usually 100% focused on their own workouts. Let the fear of judgment melt away and concentrate on your own goals.
- Get Advice
If you don’t know how to perform a certain exercise or use a particular machine, ask a floor manager or a fitness trainer for advice. They’ll be able to give you quick guidance that will help you feel prepared and confident in your gym knowledge.
- Build Strength At Home
It can sometimes be easier to hit the gym when you’ve already learned the basics and built up strength. Try watching exercise tutorials at home and perfecting your form in the mirror. That way, you’ll feel more ready to hit the gym.
- Listen To Music
According to Scientific American, “Music distracts people from pain and fatigue” and “elevates mood.” Creating an empowering workout playlist can help you feel confident and stay focused when exercising at the gym. You can either choose from the variety of pre-made workout playlists available online or customize your own.
- Bring A Friend
Getting a workout buddy can make trips to the gym feel a lot less intimidating. This is because buddying up gives you a friendly face in an otherwise new and potentially intimidating environment. Your gym buddy can also help you stay accountable and crush your fitness goals.
- Find A Gym That Suits You

Chances are, even if you’ve never practiced using positive affirmations, you’ve encountered them in some form of media – maybe when you were scrolling through your Instagram or Pinterest feeds or reading a book dedicated to self-development and personal growth.
The word “affirmation” gets used frequently in popular media, so it’s important to take a moment to break it down and truly understand what it means.
So then – what exactly is an affirmation?
An affirmation is any type of declarative statement that you say or think and are essentially affirming to be true.
So if you state, “This traffic is making me miserable,” or “This person is driving me crazy,” those are declarations that you’re affirming to be true, even if you don’t actually want to be miserable or crazy.
Most of the time, though, when we talk about affirmations, we’re referring to positive affirmations.
A positive affirmation is a positive affirming statement that’s designed to boost your self-belief and support your overall well-being: mind, body, and soul.
Affirmations can be used proactively or reactively. You might have a list of positive affirmations that you repeat while you get ready in the morning to set the foundation for a good day.
You might also use affirmations when you’re starting to feel negative and pessimistic in order to let go of your heavy energy and realign with what matters most to you.
However you use them, affirmations can be a powerful tool in helping you to love, embrace, and accept yourself exactly as you are right now.
Why Use Affirmations?
You know how eating a sugary treat lights up the reward circuits in your brain? Well, using positive affirmations activates these circuits, too, which can ultimately help in lessening pain and keeping your cool when things go wrong.
Using positive affirmations can also decrease stress. Stress has been known to increase one’s likelihood of depression and can result in digestive issues and sleep problems, among other long-term side effects.
Furthermore, the use of affirmations can help to increase your problem-solving abilities when under pressure.
Personally, I use empowering affirmations because they make me feel good. They’ve also been a way for me to take back my story and become the conscious creator of my own life.
For years, my brain’s default setting was pointed toward negativity when it came to how I viewed myself. It wasn’t that I inherently disliked myself; it’s just that I tended to believe the worst rather than the best.
Whenever I entered a room full of people, I assumed they would all immediately shun me. I told myself the story that I was never good enough. Never pretty enough. Never outgoing enough. Instead of focusing on the positive, my mind amplified the negative (and often believed things that weren’t even true).
I’ve known about affirmations for years, but I’d never actually opened myself up to accepting them into my life until I began meditating regularly. Actually, the oldest email in my inbox is from October 15, 2014, and it’s called, “Body Affirmations.” It’s a list of 100 affirmations that I’d copied from an article I’d found online and emailed to myself.
Do you know how many times in the following two or three years I opened up that email?
Zero.
Despite this, every time I went to clean out my inbox, I’d see that one email sitting there at the bottom and think, “Maybe I’ll want it one day.” I think I knew deep down that I wanted to carry these affirmations with me in my life, but my brain hadn’t quite caught up to my heart yet. And that’s okay. Everything unfolds exactly as it’s supposed to, and I’m grateful for my former self for holding onto these empowering words, even though she wasn’t quite ready for them yet.
These days, I don’t just accept affirmations into my life; I embrace them wholeheartedly.
As I mentioned above, they’ve allowed me to take back my story. I now create my life through the thoughts I consciously choose to magnify and give a voice to.
And because affirmations have played such a positive and important role in my journey, I want to share them with as many people as I can reach so that you can also begin to own your story and create the life that feels good to you.
Which Affirmations Should I Use?
The key with affirmations is that you want to find the ones that resonate with you and that you can truly believe. If you don’t believe the affirmation, then you may end up feeling worse about yourself (because subconsciously, your inner bully is saying a big fat, “Yeah right!”). We don’t want that!
If you want to believe an affirmation but find yourself feeling blocked from truly getting there, don’t stress. View your journey like you’re climbing a ladder, and with each rung, you’re steadily getting to that feel-good place you desire.
For instance, if body love is your goal, you may not really believe yourself if you try to affirm, “I love everything about my body.” Instead, start with, “I am open to loving my body and seeing it for all of its beauty.”
You might also be okay with saying, “My body is deserving of love.” You could also find specific areas of your body that you do really like, such as your smile. Or you can focus on all the ways your body shows up for you, even emphasizing something as seemingly simple as the fact that it keeps you alive.
Find the words that allow you to really feel good, and keep your focus on the positive emotions associated with these empowering words as you climb up that ladder.
With any of the affirmations below, if it doesn’t feel right, feel free to modify it so that it feels good for you. Focus on the ones that resonate with you the most. You will always know whether something is right for you by the way it feels.
