    The Power Of I AM

When you begin using affirmations, one of the first things you’ll hear is to always speak in the present tense.

When you say, “I am worthy,” you ground yourself in this present moment. It isn’t, “I will be worthy.” Or, “I hope to be worthy.”

This type of statement is so small. Just three words. Four syllables. Nine letters.

But in those three words, you state that you are worthy right now, just as you are. You don’t need to become worthy. You don’t need to change yourself to be worthy. And you absolutely don’t have to earn your worthiness.

You get to own your inherent worthiness in this moment without needing to change a thing. And by owning your worthiness, you own your immense power to choose how you feel in any moment.

And you also realize that you can have anything when you know that what you’re seeking is already inside you.

It all begins with two tiny but monumentally powerful words:

    I AM.

Using daily affirmations may feel uncomfortable at first, especially if you’re used to criticizing yourself in the privacy of your own mind. You’ll have to keep reminding yourself to repeat your empowering affirmations and feel into the positive vibrations of these powerful words.

In time, though, these words will become woven into the very fabric of your being. They’ll be an inextricable part of who you are:

Worthy. Abundant. Loved. Powerful. Whole. And always, always enough.

Below, you’ll find tips for using and getting the most out of your I AM affirmations. Then, you’ll find 55 profound I AM affirmations for love, success, abundance, and more. These affirmations are designed to help you recognize your power in this present moment and walk forward in your journey knowing you already have what it takes to live the life you desire.

You just have to own the incredible power that already exists inside of you.

Tips For Using I AM Affirmations

    • Don’t just say the words; feel them. This is what makes an affirmation so powerful. If you can say an affirmation such as, “I am abundant,” and truly feel abundant inside every cell of your being, then you’re no longer looking for external sources to validate your worth. Instead, you cultivate what you’re looking for inside of you.
    • Don’t force it if it really doesn’t resonate. Forcing yourself to say an affirmation that actually makes you feel worse is counterproductive to the positive mindset you’re trying to cultivate. Instead, choose affirmations that genuinely feel good to you.
    • And on that note, you can also use what I call the Ladder Method. Let’s say you want to use the affirmation, “I am beautiful and healthy.” Maybe you have a hard time repeating this. You try to force it, but sometimes, this leaves you feeling worse than before. Instead, allow yourself to step back and find an affirmation that feels a little better to you. You might say, “I am open to discovering the ways that I am beautiful and healthy.” You can also say, “I am willing to love my body and see its inherent beauty.” See if you can incorporate these affirmations into your daily practice, slowly climbing the ladder until you get to that place where you can say, “I am beautiful and healthy.”
    • And finally, make affirmations a daily part of your routine. If it’s hard to remember at first, you can set phone notifications to go off throughout the day with powerful affirmations written on them. You can also print out affirmations or write them on post-it notes and stick them around your home and office. What I’ve found is that eventually, I don’t need these reminders anymore because the affirmation becomes so ingrained within me. After a while, it’ll become second nature to easily affirm your worthiness.

    The Beauty Of New Beginnings

New beginnings can be one of the most exciting times in a person’s life.

New career paths. New relationships. New lifestyle changes. New family members. New adventures. New opportunities that carry limitless unseen possibilities.

In all the newness, there’s always a spark of hope for what’s to come. New beginnings give us a chance to realign with what feels right and true to us – to release what no longer serves us to make space for something fresh and undiscovered to emerge.

But while new beginnings can be really exciting, they can also be really scary. It can be terrifying to leave the comfort of predictability and certainty – to step into something that comes with no guarantees. Even when we feel really good and hopeful about the path ahead, there are often lingering doubts about what we’re doing.

    Am I really good enough?

    Can I really do this?

Do I have what it takes?

Know that it’s okay to ask yourself these questions. There’s nothing wrong with having doubts, even if, deep down, you feel like this is the right path. Something can feel right and still be a little overwhelming and scary, especially in the beginning.

You always have the power to choose. You can choose your path. You can choose what thoughts and feelings you decide to lean into. You’re allowed to acknowledge your uncertainties while also choosing a mindset that feels good and true to you.

You can choose hope. You can choose optimism. You can choose to believe in the feelings deep within that are leading you toward this new beginning.

Below, you’ll find 9 healing crystals for new beginnings. These beautiful gemstones all offer powerful support and guidance as you move forward onto your new path. Some carry with them a little extra hope and optimism. Others will help you to connect with your intuition and inner wisdom as you make choices moving forward. And others will help protect you from negative energy and transform low vibrations into hope, joy, and positivity.

And if you’re new to the world of crystals and gemstones, be sure to check out my guide on how to cleanse, program, and use crystals to their fullest potential here.

    Crystals For New Beginnings

    Rainbow Moonstone

If you’re stepping into a new chapter of your life and can pick only one gemstone to carry with you on your journey, Rainbow Moonstone is the one you want on your side (or in your pocket). Quite literally known as the “Stone of New Beginnings,” this beautiful stone will bring you an extra dose of hope and optimism as you journey forward. The name is especially meaningful, as the metaphor of the rainbow is truly apt in this instance. Just like stepping out of a storm to find a beautiful rainbow in the distance, this nurturing stone will bring you hope, optimism, and protection as you move forward with clarity and feelings of deep inner peace.

    Labradorite

Labradorite is all about embracing your inner wisdom and providing you with mental clarity. When you step forward into a new beginning, it can often be difficult to trust your own judgment. When you’re unsure where to go next – and when you have multiple voices around you telling you what they think is best – Labradorite can help you to connect with your higher consciousness in order to navigate the next right step for you. Additionally, Labradorite is a great stone for restoring your energy when you’re feeling drained and giving you a little extra courage as you move forward.

    Citrine

Citrine is a powerful mood booster and can bring some extra fun into your life, especially if you’re feeling ultra-serious about this new beginning you’re stepping into. Known as the “Merchant Stone” or “Success Stone,” Citrine is associated with wealth, prosperity, and financial success. Additionally, Citrine is associated with your solar plexus chakra, which is your energy center for confidence, empowerment, positivity, and high self-esteem. So when you combine these powerful properties, you get a crystal that helps you to manifest financial abundance while feeling optimistic, confident, and joyful. The pure positivity this stone brings makes it worth holding onto throughout your day. (I bought a citrine ring when I first started blogging and have worn it every day since!)

    Black Moonstone

I listed Rainbow Moonstone above, but I figured Black Moonstone also deserves its own spot on this list as its known to hold the energy of the New Moon and new endeavors. This is a calming and grounding stone that can also help you connect deeper with your intuition, which will assist you in making decisions as you move forward. Black Moonstone also offers you profound energy protection, not only deflecting negative energy but transforming it into something lighter and more positive. This is a beautiful stone to keep with you no matter what kind of new beginning you’re stepping into.

    Malachite

Malachite is a stone of transformation and positive change. It will help to balance your mood and provide you with a positive outlook as you move forward, which is especially beneficial as new beginnings can often leave you feeling uncertain and questioning yourself as you navigate all the changes taking place. Additionally, as it’s connected to your heart chakra, Malachite works with your heart center to help you remain open to unconditional love, love freely, and take positive risks. This can help you to open your heart to new beginnings in relationships as well as to love yourself enough to step forward and be brave.

    Apophyllite

If new beginnings leave you feeling uneasy, Apophyllite is the perfect stone to ease your worries and fears. As one of the most powerful stones for healing anxiety, Apophyllite is known for being a stone of light, and it infuses its light into your spirit, relieving your tension and unease. You might think of Apophyllite like a beautiful, calming presence that doesn’t just relieve your stress and worry; it transfers its high-vibrational energy to you and truly uplifts your spirits. Additionally, by soothing your worries and calming your mind, Apophyllite will help you to come up with actionable solutions during times of stress.

    Green Aventurine

Green Aventurine may quite literally be your secret good luck charm. Known as the “Stone of Opportunity,” this crystal is known for its power to bring you good luck, prosperity, and success. It will help you to confidently embrace any changes with courage, optimism, and openness. If everything is starting to feel a little too heavy and overwhelming, Green Aventurine can help lighten the mood, take away from the heaviness, and leave you feeling reinvigorated and renewed.

    Smoky Quartz

New beginnings come with a lot of ups and downs, and Smoky Quartz is like the best friend who can always help you to remain grounded and centered, no matter what’s happening around you. This grounding stone will help you get through the difficult moments of life, provide clarity in uncertain situations, and transform negative emotions into positive emotions. And if anxiety often leaves you feeling overwhelmed, Smoky Quartz will transform overwhelm into insight so that you can effectively understand and work through any problems that may be disrupting your peace. Plus, an added bonus to using Smoky Quartz is that if often complements and amplifies the energy of any surrounding stones you may also be carrying with you.

    Amazonite

Amazonite is truly everything you could possibly want as you step into a new beginning: hope, truth, clarity, calm, peace, harmony, and communication. If you’re experiencing fear, worry, and doubt about the path ahead, this powerful stone will transform these low energies into positivity, optimism, encouragement, and hope. Do you possess any fears about getting started? Are you worried about what’s to come? Amazonite can help transform your fear into joy and remind you that true happiness always comes from within.

    Spiritual Growth

Growing up, I never would’ve considered myself a spiritual person.

I think I always mostly believed in a higher power, but I always considered this higher power to exist outside of myself. To be completely honest, I often imagined this higher power to be this enormous being who was watching me from the sky, judging and criticizing my every thought and action.

I believed this higher power had extraordinary expectations for me to be perfect, and I was already so hard on myself all the time – bearing the weight of all those expectations felt like carrying a mountain on my shoulders. In my mind, no matter what I did, it’d never be enough.

So it became much easier for me to pretend this higher being didn’t exist at all.

It was just me and myself, I decided. I’d have to figure things out on my own. And that was okay. I didn’t need anyone else. I remember when I was younger, I once asked my mom if she thought I was a leader or a follower.

“Neither,” she responded. “You don’t feel the need to lead, but you don’t follow either. You’re just your own person.”

I loved this identity. My own person. Even though I don’t think it was what she meant, I took it to mean that I didn’t need other people at all. Even when things were difficult, I could always make it on my own.

It took many years of lessons and hardship to realize that trying to be a solely independent person who never relied on anyone else for anything wasn’t really the path I wanted to be on. That I truly and deeply loved people. That I needed them.

And that I needed something greater than me to believe in. That I needed a higher power: God, the Universe, Source, Love, All That Is – whatever name feels best to you.

My life changed in the most extraordinary ways when I released my grip on the reins and surrendered control to the Universe. When I began to lean into divine flow. When I trusted the pull of my heart guiding me forward, even when it didn’t make sense.

And this relationship is still growing. Still expanding. It transforms every day. The more I surrender, let go, and trust, the more miraculous my life becomes. I was so worried about control for so long, yet it was releasing this control that brought me the true peace I’d been searching for my entire life.

Below, you’ll find 30 journal prompts for spiritual growth to help you on your own spiritual journey. These questions focus both on your relationship with your true self as well as your relationship with a higher power. You can also download your copy of these free printable journal prompts at the bottom of this post.

Before you begin responding to any of these journal prompts, I want you to make a promise to yourself to be kind and compassionate with yourself no matter what comes up. Allow yourself the grace of imperfection. Embrace your past, as every experience you’ve encountered has brought you here today.

And also, what I believed when I was little? About a higher power sitting in the sky watching and criticizing your every move? It isn’t true. We all have different, unique relationships with the Universe, but for all of us, this is true:

The Universe has never criticized or condemned you. The Universe has never judged you for your thoughts or actions. The Universe is love. The Universe knows only love. And the Universe only feels perfect, unconditional love for you.

Is Sunday The Beginning Or The End?

Sundays are arguably the most peculiar day of the week.

Some calendars will start a new week on Sunday, while on others, you’ll find it at the end.

For religious reasons, Sunday has long been viewed as the most important day of the week and thus used to signify the start of a new seven-day period. But with the advent of industrialization and the five-day work week, Monday began to take its place as the ceremonial inaugurator of a brand new week.

So is Sunday the beginning or the end? Is it the final puzzle piece of a seven-day week or the beginning of a fresh new 168 hours?

I tend to think Sunday exists in the undefined space of the in-between.

It’s not entirely a beginning or an end. On Sunday, we haven’t fully stepped into a new week, but we’re not really clinging to the prior week, either. We’re living in a space in-between what was and what’s coming: a space where nothing is completely certain but anything is possible.

A space where we can start to shed the layers of our past selves so we can make space for something new to emerge.

A space where we can replenish, recharge, and refill our own cups.

A space where we don’t necessarily have to do. Where maybe, for a little while, we can simply be.

Below, you’ll find 35 Sunday affirmations to help you embrace this space of the in-between: releasing the old, stepping into the new, and replenishing your spirit along the way.

    Letting Go

    Letting go.

These two words can bring up a lot of heavy and conflicting emotions, both positive and negative. On one hand, letting go represents an opportunity to move forward into a beautiful new beginning.

On the other hand, letting go may mean releasing something that’s been a profound part of your life – something you’re not quite sure you’re fully ready to release.

The reasons you might need to let go are numerous and far-reaching:

    • Letting go of past relationships
    • Letting go of control
    • Letting go of a dream
    • Letting go of pain
    • Letting go of fear, anger, or another feeling that doesn’t serve you
    • Letting go of the vision you once had for your future
    • Letting go of a job, a home, or something else that’s been meaningful for you
    • Letting go of the past, in all of its beautiful, sometimes heartbreaking messiness.

One reason why people sometimes have a difficult time letting go is that they believe this somehow lessens their past experiences. For instance, you might think that moving on from a past relationship means that the past relationship wasn’t important or meaningful.

    But this isn’t true.

You can love, honor, and cherish all the memories of that past relationship while still moving forward. To honor the past, you don’t have to live in it. You can acknowledge what it meant to you – how important it was to you.

And you can keep moving forward.

You can keep dreaming of a beautiful future.

You can keep following your heart into an incredible new chapter of your life.

Below, you’ll find 40 profound affirmations for letting go and moving forward. Because “letting go” can pertain to so many situations and carry so many different meanings, you’ll find affirmations for different aspects of this sometimes difficult experience. Allow yourself to find the affirmations that resonate with you and let them be a loving guide forward on your beautiful journey.

I hope that these affirmations serve your mind, body, and spirit and remind you of your incredible courage, resilience, and strength.

    Affirmations For Letting Go

    • I let go of what no longer serves me to make space for new beginnings.
    • I am able to let go of anything that doesn’t serve my mind, body, or spirit.

    Your Highest Self

Take a moment to pause. Breathe deeply. Ground yourself in this present moment.

Now ask yourself: who am I?

Start to paint a picture of yourself in your mind’s eye. See yourself, exactly as you are in this moment right now.

Now, slowly begin to shed the layers of anything you’re carrying that doesn’t actually belong to you.

Remove your fears. Remove the daily stress and worries you carry. Remove the pain you’ve suffered as a result of external experiences. Remove everything that’s weighed you down, kept you small, and made you believe that you’re somehow lesser than you truly are.

The person you see when you remove the layers of pain, shame, stress, fear, worry, distrust, and suffering is your highest, most authentic self.

    Who Is Your Higher Self?

Hold this vision of your higher self in your mind’s eye for a little longer. See this version of you stepping into your daily life. How does your higher self look? How do they talk to other people? How do they interact with the world? Do they choose faith over fear? Do they believe they are worthy and deserving of manifesting their dreams? Do they offer love willingly? And do they receive love with an open heart?

Your higher self is your essential self. At the core of your essential self is the following:

    • The essential self is untouched by external circumstances. No matter what happens around you, this deepest part of you is unchanged because it is the very essence of who you are.
    • This part of you exists beyond your body and physical appearance.
    • This deepest part of you is what you might refer to as your soul. It is eternal, measureless, and infinite.
    • Nothing outside of yourself can shake or disrupt your essential self. This part of you is free from fears, worries, and limiting beliefs.

If you stripped everything else away, this part of you would remain: the real and true you.

Now, here’s what a lot of us get wrong when it comes to our higher selves: we mistakenly believe that the highest self is something we must become. We strive to be better. To be someone worthy of the Universe’s infinite love. To become more than we believe ourselves to be.

But your higher self isn’t something you become. Your highest self is who you already are.

You don’t have to strive to become this person because this person is already you

And this is important. Striving is the antithesis of manifestation because ingrained in it is the belief that you don’t already possess this thing. But you do. Everything you’re looking for already exists within you. Manifestation occurs when you stop living from the outside in and instead begin to live from the inside out.

So it’s never about striving to become your highest self. It’s about knowing you already are this person. Your highest self exists within you. And as you begin to remove the layers of fears, distrust, and self-doubt that have prevented you from connecting with the real and true you, it will become easier to align with your highest, essential self each and every day.

How To Connect With Your Higher Self

To begin connecting with your higher self, it’s important to first go within and uncover the real, true, infinite you. Below, you’ll find some questions to ask yourself to connect deeper with this part of you. (You might find it helpful to journal your answers.)

    • Who am I without my fears?
    • Who am I without my stress?
    • Who am I without the worries that keep me up at night?
    • Who am I without the external circumstances that I’ve defined myself by?
    • Who am I when I’m doing what I love most in the world?
    • Who am I when my heart is on fire with joy and passion?
    • Who am I when I act from a place of love?
    • Who am I when I feel connected to myself, other people, and the Universe?
    • Who am I when I feel connected to something deeper and more profound than my daily external experiences?
    • Who am I when I feel connected to my purpose?
    • Who am I when I close my eyes and picture the truest, most authentic me?

Once you have a clear understanding of who your essential self is, you can make it a daily practice to connect with this deepest part of you. To do this, it’s important to take some time each day – even if it’s just for a minute or two – to step away from the external noise and go within. Take a deep breath and remember who you are.

Below, you’ll find a list of practices to help you connect with your higher self each and every day.

Meet Your Higher Self In Meditation

Meditation allows you to step away from the outside world for a bit and meet yourself exactly where you are. It isn’t about being perfect. It isn’t even about clearing your mind. It’s simply about being, exactly as you are. Meditation is a natural bridge to connecting with your higher self. It allows you to gently shed the layers of everything you’re not to return to who you are. Infinite. Divine. Measureless. Whole.

One powerful practice is to consciously meet your higher self in meditation. To do this, envision that you’re somewhere you feel completely safe and at ease. You might imagine that you’re in a meadow, near the ocean, or somewhere else in nature that feels like home to you. As you’re walking along a path, you see someone in the distance. You approach closer until they’re in full view; it’s your higher self. Imagine what your higher self looks like and how they carry themselves. See them greeting you with so much love and compassion. If you have any questions you’d like to ask your higher self, ask them now. Listen to what they have to say. Remember that your higher self is connected to the light and energy of the entire universe, so trust their responses. This is divine guidance speaking directly to you.

Create A Higher Self Morning Routine

How would your higher self greet the new day? Your morning routine can set the foundation for the entire day ahead. When you begin your mornings as your higher self, you’re more likely to continue to connect with this truest and deepest part of you throughout the day. Instead of rushing through your mornings to get out the door, practice mindfulness as you step into the first hour of this new day. You might meditate, journal, recite positive affirmations, stretch, practice yoga, go for a jog, read a chapter out of a personal growth book, or do something else that feels fulfilling for you.

As you begin each day, remember that you are in control of your mindset. You’re in control of your emotions. You’re in control of how you perceive this new day.

Recite Positive Affirmations Aligned With Your Higher Self

Positive affirmations are encouraging, uplifting statements designed to boost your confidence and self-belief. The classic intro to any positive affirmation is two simple yet powerful words: I am.

You have the power to end that sentence in any way that feels right to you. I am worthy. I am powerful. I am brilliant. I am open-hearted. I am brave. I am extraordinary. I am infinite.

Recite positive affirmations that resonate deeply with you. Carry these empowering words with you throughout your day. Repeat them frequently. Write them on post-it notes. Create phone reminders that pop up at random times during the day affirming your undeniable worthiness.

The more you repeat these positive affirmations, the deeper they become ingrained into your subconscious mind. Keep repeating them over and over again. Affirm what feels true and real and good to you.

    Release Limiting Beliefs

A limiting belief is a deep-seated belief that holds you back from realizing your true potential and living the life that you desire. Limiting beliefs aren’t a natural part of your essence and being; they weren’t a part of you when you were born onto this earth. They’re a result of your lived experiences. And most of the time, you’ll find that your limiting beliefs are rooted in fear: fear of rejection, fear of abandonment, fear of not having what it takes, fear that there isn’t room for you to succeed, fear of being seen for your true self, fear of failure, and even fear of success.

Limiting beliefs keep you from aligning with your true self and stepping into the life that’s waiting for you beyond your worries and fears.

Identifying your limiting beliefs requires meaningful self-reflection. What fears are you hiding behind? What’s stopping you from being your truest, most authentic you? Once you’ve identified your limiting beliefs, you can consciously choose to create new, reframed beliefs. Ask yourself, what beliefs would my higher self hold? For instance, if you have a limiting belief that you’re not smart or talented enough to make it in a certain field, your reframed belief might be that you are more than capable of succeeding and thriving (and that the Universe put this dream into your heart for a reason, so you can release your worries and choose to trust).

    Be Your Higher Self

Embody your highest self in how you interact with friends and strangers throughout the day. In every situation you encounter, ask yourself, what would my higher self do? How would my higher self react? What choices would my higher self make? Would my higher self be critical or compassionate? Would my higher self worry about the future or trust that everything will work out? If your higher self is endlessly kind, loving, and compassionate, then give love, kindness, and compassion freely, just as your higher self would.

    Live In This Present Moment

You have a past, and you have a future, but you don’t live in either of those spaces. You live here, right now. You’re breathing in this moment. Your heart is beating in this moment. Your power is here, right now, in this present moment. And this is where your higher self lives. Your higher self isn’t reliving the past or worrying about the future. Your higher self knows that the best thing you can do for your future is to love this moment right now. To find gratitude in this moment. To discover the miracles that this moment can offer when you open your eyes to uncover them.

So keep coming back to the present moment. It’s okay to think about the future. It’s also okay to think about the past – to wonder, even, what would’ve happened if you had made different choices.

The key is to not dwell in those spaces.

Keep coming back to this moment right now. Keep breathing. Keep being. Keep noticing. You’ll be surprised by how much you discover about yourself and the world around you when you simply pay attention.

    Your Higher Self & Manifestation

So how can aligning with your higher self help you to manifest your dreams? Let’s consider what it looks like when you’re out of alignment with your highest self versus when you’re in alignment with this essential part of you. (See the table below.)

    Out of AlignmentIn Alignment
    FearfulFearless
Held back by limiting beliefsFree from limiting beliefs
    Buried under self-criticismLifted by self-compassion
Trusts only what you can seeTrusts what you feel deep within
Easily shaken by external circumstancesGrounded, centered, and trusting, no matter what happens in the external world
Feels disconnected from the outer world (and often feels disconnected from self)Connected to yourself, other people, and the Universe as a whole
Weighed down by negative thoughts and feelings (fear, worry, stress, anger, distrust, disconnection, scarcity, lack of faith)Natural state is positive vibrations (love, gratitude, joy, peace, community, compassion, hope, faith, freedom, abundance, empowerment)
Often views life through a mindset of lack and scarcity (because you measure your abundance by what you see outside of yourself)Views life with an abundance mindset. Knows that infinite abundance is available to all. Also knows that abundance doesn’t start outside of you; it begins within.

Simply put, the more you align with your higher self, the easier manifestation becomes. Not only does it become easier to vibrate at the frequency of your desires, but you’re more patient, trusting, and at peace with all that’s happening in your life. You honor your inner knowing and are guided by faith over fear. You create a life of true abundance not from the outside in but from the inside out.

Once you can tap into this essential state and consistently align with the abundance within, you’ll see it manifest in all different forms outside of you.

To be clear, you can manifest things in the short-term without consistently aligning with your highest self, as long as you consistently align with the positive emotions of what you want. But long-term manifestation without the highest self isn’t sustainable. It will constantly feel like you’re striving to become something rather than simply being. The work you do now to consistently align with your higher self will ultimately make your long-term journey more joyful, peaceful, and simply easier. It will become less about doing and more about being

The importance of aligning with your highest self goes beyond manifesting for the future. It’s about knowing your worthiness right now. And you are worthy and deserving of living a life that feels good to you. To wake up each morning in alignment with the real and true you. To experience feelings of joy, love, peace, abundance, and freedom as your permanent, natural state.

And you deserve to know that you are worthy of receiving your dreams just because you’re you. You don’t have to do more. You don’t have to be more. You don’t have to achieve more. You get to receive because who you are, exactly as you are, is always enough.

That’s what your higher self gives you.

    Less striving. More receiving.

    Your Greatest Teacher

Have you ever searched for answers outside yourself when you knew the right answer deep within the whole time?

One final note I want to make about your higher self is that this part of you is often your greatest teacher. If you’re seeking answers outside of yourself and having a difficult time, allow yourself to pause. Take a step back. Close your eyes, and picture your higher self. Ask your higher self the questions that are weighing on your mind. (You might try this practice in meditation, if it feels right.)

While the Universe will provide you with signs and synchronicities to deliver messages, ultimately, the most profound messages come from the eternal, infinite part of you that exists within. This is the life force of the Universe flowing inside you. You may not quite trust it yet because you’ve been taught to trust your logic and reason over this deep inner knowing. But the eternal energy flowing within you is your greatest guide and greatest teacher. As you learn to trust it, answers will come more easily, and you’ll be able to tap into your intuition to lead you to your next step.

Start practicing coming to your highest self when you have questions about your life path. Have patience if the answers don’t come to you right away. Sometimes, you might ask a question, and then an answer will come to you in the middle of the afternoon several days later.

And if an answer comes that doesn’t seem logical, don’t immediately dismiss it. Explore this answer with gentle curiosity. Your mind will likely immediately try to find all the reasons why it must be wrong, so allow yourself to flip your perspective and look for the reasons it might be right.

    Daring Greatly

Brene Brown is a bestselling author and research professor whose 2010 Ted Talk, The Power of Vulnerability, has become one of the most watched talks in the world. (As of this writing, it has over 55,000,000 views on the Ted website.) Brown researches and discusses topics like vulnerability, shame, courage, and empathy: words that evoke all kinds of feelings and emotions within (sometimes positive and sometimes uncomfortable, but always worthwhile). I’ve always been drawn to Brown when I watch her speeches, read her interviews, and listen to her on podcasts. When I started reading her bestselling book, Daring Greatly, I became especially drawn to the topic of wholeheartedness.

A few of Brown’s quotes on wholeheartedness (and the inspiration for the wholehearted promises below) from Daring Greatly:

    • “Wholeheartedness. There are many tenets of Wholeheartedness, but at its very core is vulnerability and worthiness; facing uncertainty, exposure, and emotional risks, and knowing that I am enough.
    • “Those who feel lovable, who love, and who experience belonging simply believe they are worthy of love and belonging. I often say that Wholeheartedness is like the North Star: We never really arrive, but we certainly know if we’re headed in the right direction.”
    • “Spirituality emerged as a fundamental guidepost in Wholeheartedness. Not religiosity but the deeply held belief that we are inextricably connected to one another by a force greater than ourselves—a force grounded in love and compassion. For some of us that’s God, for others it’s nature, art, or even human soulfulness. I believe that owning our worthiness is the act of acknowledging that we are sacred. Perhaps embracing vulnerability and overcoming numbing is ultimately about the care and feeding of our spirits.”

    Wow.

And my absolute favorite, which comes from her book The Gifts of Imperfection:

    • “Wholehearted living is about engaging with our lives from a place of worthiness. It means cultivating the courage, compassion and connection to wake up in the morning and think, ‘No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough.’ It’s going to bed at night thinking, ‘Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging.

    Affirmation for a Wholehearted Life

Wholeheartedness is still a word I’m allowing to gently settle over and within me. I’m still exploring it and discovering it. I haven’t yet uncovered my own definition for what it means to me, but I know that Brown’s definition is the very thing I strive for in my own life. And it’s her words on wholeheartedness that inspired me to create these wholehearted promises below.

Her words also inspired me to create my own personal affirmation to share with you:

    • I am living a wholehearted life. I know my undeniable worthiness, and I act from that place of worthiness every single day. The more I put myself out there, the more unafraid I become of my own imperfections, flaws, and perceived failures. In fact, when I step back and look at all my imperfections, I think they’re kind of beautiful. I embrace the messiness of living. I allow myself to accept and receive love, both from myself and others, knowing I am always worthy of such beautiful and open-hearted love. And I know, undoubtedly, that I am enough, just as I am. Nothing about me is wrong. Nothing about me is a mistake. I am worthy. Always.

This doesn’t mean that I “get it right” all the time. But whenever I stray from living a wholehearted life, I know I can always realign and come home to myself again. And that’s the key, really. It’s not about living a perfect life all the time. It’s about knowing how to find your way home.

So below, I’ve written 100 wholehearted promises for you to make to yourself today to live a beautifully imperfect, wholehearted life. Whenever you stray from your authentic path, allow these words to be like the gentle beacon of a lighthouse, guiding your way home. Also be sure to download your free printable wholehearted promises so you can repeat these promises to yourself daily.

4 Undeniable Reasons Why You Are Not Broken

Below, discover the four undeniable reasons why you are not broken – and why even if you do feel broken, it may not be such a bad thing after all.

4 Undeniable Reasons Why You Are Not Broken

    You Are Not Broken

This title is a lie. Kind of.

The truth is, I’m not here to convince you that you’re not broken. In fact, if you walk away from here still feeling like you are, that’s okay. That doesn’t mean I, or you, failed.

You get to choose your perspective, and I honor that. When it comes to the deep, inner work, I’m not here to tell you that one way of thinking is good or right and another is bad or wrong.

So if you leave here with the belief that you are not broken, that’s okay.

And if you leave here with the belief that you are broken, that’s okay, too.

You see, my hope for you is not that you come to either of these resolutions.

My hope is to help you reframe your relationship with the word “broken” itself, because the truth is, being broken isn’t actually such a bad thing after all.

Reason #1: Because you are no longer the wide-eyed, innocent child you entered the world as (which is a good thing)

When you were born onto this earth, you had no preconceived notions. You had no past experiences with which to compare your present. You had no prejudices. No biases. No hate. You had never experienced betrayal. Your heart had never spilled out of your chest and broken in shards around your bare feet. You had never felt embarrassment or shame. You didn’t know hurt. You didn’t know pain.

When we say we are broken, it’s often because we’re comparing our present selves to the wide-eyed, innocent human beings we entered this world as. We reflect upon this innocence as if it was somehow better. We dream of a utopia where we could live in that perfect, unblemished state for the entirety of our days.

But that is not our reality.

The reality is, as we grow up, we do experience hurt and pain. Our hearts break. Sometimes, our palms cling to our chests as we fall to our knees, and it feels like we no longer have a heart at all.

Slowly, we learn that the people we love so much aren’t perfect, and we experience that first crushing encounter with disillusionment when our idols disappoint us for the first time.

We give our heart to another human being, and they decide to return it, and when they do, it somehow looks and feels different than it did before.

We learn that we’re not good at everything and there may even be some things that we’re very, very bad at.

We get a low test score or a critical comment, and we take it as a reflection of ourselves, as if it somehow undermines our own worth.

And as we grow through our teenage years, into our twenties and beyond, we start to think that life is really, really hard, and we wonder if it’s only really, really hard for us. How does everyone else seem to have it all together?

And this is when you decide you are broken.

Because you are no longer that wide-eyed, innocent human being you came into the world as. Because you are now imperfect. You are now flawed. You have cracks and crevices and missing fragments that you’ll never get back.

    But this isn’t actually brokenness.

    This is living.

There is not a single human being on this earth who gets to keep all their pieces as they grow up. We all lose bits of that wide-eyed innocence as we travel through life.

    But we also gain.

    We gain so much.

Because we’ve lost these pieces of ourselves, we’ve made room for something new and different. We learn about the beauty of contrast: how experiencing the bad makes the good so much better. We forge new relationships with strangers, and these relationships somehow become even better and deeper, because they aren’t built on the pretense that either one of you has to be perfect; the only expectations are that you come as you are. Experiencing the lows make the highs so much better. The seeming failures make you savor the successes even more. And one day, you may even realize that there were no failures. Just redirections, leading you to something better.

You are not broken because you are no longer the innocent, wide-eyed child you entered the world as.

You are whole because you have experienced the entirety of life’s ups and downs and you’re still bravely standing here today with a strength and fierceness you never would’ve or could’ve known back then.

That’s what you gained when you started to lose fragments and pieces of your former, childlike self.

You gained strength. You gained power. You gained passion. You gained a richer and deeper capacity to love. You became fire and ice, soft and hard, gentle and strong, all at the same time.

Reason #2: Because these scars exist within all of us, but we do not see the hidden pain in others, so we believe we’re the only ones

One reason why we feel broken is because we feel like we are the only one feeling this way. And it makes sense. I don’t want to attack social media here, because I personally believe in the power of using social media for good, and I think there are a lot of incredible people trying to show their raw and vulnerable selves on social media rather than trying to portray perfect lives. I’ve seen more and more of it lately, and I couldn’t be more grateful for those people. Because even I have to admit that it can be really, really easy to get caught up in the pictures of perfect lives and think that something is somehow wrong with me because my life isn’t equally as picturesque as someone’s beautifully curated Instagram feed.

Even I have unintentionally given the impression that my life is something it’s not. On my private social media accounts, I almost never post. Maybe once or twice a year on Facebook, less on Instagram. Usually, my posts come after a cool hike, camping trip, or vacation. It’s not something I’ve ever given a lot of thought to; those are just the only times I ever take pictures. Otherwise, my life is exceptionally boring in the best way possible. (I love being a homebody.)

But I started to notice something over the last couple years. When I’d see family members or acquaintances who I only ever encounter on special occasions, they’d make comments such as, “Yeah, I see all your pics on Facebook. It looks like you’re always on such cool adventures. My life is boring in comparison.”

    Oh.

    Oh shoot.

    That was not my intention.

I am not always on cool adventures. I am the ultimate homebody. Most of my outings are to the grocery store or my parents’ house for football on Sundays. I love predictability and usually dread really big social events, even with people I genuinely like, because I’m a major introvert, and socializing takes up a lot of my energy. Sometimes, it takes days to recharge.

I don’t believe most people are intentionally trying to curate their lives to look perfect and pristine. I think that, as it was for me, it’s usually unintentional. The key here is becoming aware of it. When you see a social media account that looks too good to be true, know there are layers you’re not seeing. Become conscious and aware of your thoughts. If you realize this triggers something negative in you, then unfollow anyone who makes you feel like your life doesn’t measure up (even me, if I ever have that effect on you). Choose to follow people who share their flaws and hard days. Choose to follow real.

None of us have perfect lives. None. There is so much in you that I don’t see, and there is so much in me that you don’t see. The things that make us feel “broken” are often the things that we have in common but are too afraid to share. So I apologize to you right now if I have ever given the appearance that my life is perfect. Nobody’s lives are perfect, and there is nothing wrong with you if your life doesn’t “measure up” to another person’s beautifully curated Instagram feed.

You are not broken because the images you see of other people’s lives look somehow more beautiful, happier, and more perfect than yours. Again, I am a huge supporter of social media, but social media is not real life. It’s the curated version of ourselves we choose to show the world. So anytime you open Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media app, do so with a big, heaping dose of self-love and awareness. Find the people who call to you, who inspire that whisper deep in your brain that says, “This is real.” Look for the ones who are honest and authentic and vulnerable, who make you say, “Thank God! There’s someone else out there who feels exactly like me!” Listen to your inner knowing, and never, ever compare your real life to the images you see on the screen.

Reason #3: Because there are people and entities out there who profit off of you feeling broken, incomplete, and/or like you need to be fixed

To be honest, I had a difficult time including this one. I operate out of a place of unconditional love. I believe in unconditional love. I see it. I share it. I strive, in all my imperfections and flaws, to be it. And I also believe the world is what we make of it, and when I look around and inside me, I see a generous, compassionate, kind, and loving world. That is what I want to continually write about and share with my readers: the inherent beauty and love of this world we live in.

So when I write about this, I write about it objectively, from a place that doesn’t get pulled into the darkness but rather sees the darkness and chooses to shine my light.

There are people, companies, and entities out there that profit from you feeling broken and inherently less than. Chances are, you can name several off the top of your head. Sometimes, though, it happens and we don’t even realize it. Advertisements, especially, often aim to sell products by making us, as consumers, feel like we are unworthy and incomplete without that product.

I don’t want to get too far down this rabbit hole today, as this is part of a much larger discussion. Like I said, I truly believe we live in a generous, kind, loving world, and I believe the good far outweighs the bad. But it would be irresponsible of me to not acknowledge that there are people out there who profit off of our insecurities.

So here’s what I encourage you to do: in any situation in which someone is trying to sell you something, whether that is through advertisements, in your daily interactions, or through another medium, ask yourself: what are they trying to sell me on? Are they trying to sell me on the idea that I’m not worthy as I am right now? Are they trying to make me feel somehow less than? Are they making me feel like something is inherently wrong with me? And does this match up with my vision of my highest and most authentic self?

Unfortunately, there may be people in your life who also personally gain when you feel broken and incomplete. Know that you don’t have to listen to their words, and you also don’t have to react with the same negativity. You know what’s infinitely more powerful than responding to cynicism, defeatism, bleakness, and hurtful words with equal negativity?

    Respond with love.

    Choose love.

    Be love.

You don’t have to give them any more of your time, energy, or presence. Just see them, and then choose differently. Choose self-love. Choose spreading love to others. Choose loving this universe you get to be a part of. And then carry on walking forward on your path, always toward the light.

You are not broken, and you do not have to listen to anyone who tries to make you feel otherwise.

Reason #4: Because the cracked and broken pieces inside of you are not empty; they’re filled with solid gold

Have you heard of Kintsugi? It’s the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, silver, or platinum. Instead of trying to make the broken object look as perfect and unblemished as it did before, this technique honors the history of the object by acknowledging its imperfections, and then somehow creates something even more beautiful from its flaws.

Kintsugi embraces and honors the imperfections of an object rather than trying to cover them up. It does not dispose of the broken; it adds value because it was broken.

I can’t think of anything in the world more beautiful than this belief.

If you’ve gotten this far, and you still believe you are broken, then I encourage you to reframe your perspective about how you perceive brokenness. Brokenness is not something to cover up or conceal. It is not a blemish you need to hide from the world. It is not proof that you should be disposed of and replaced by something shiny and new.

    Brokenness is a gift.

You are delicate and rare. Nobody in the world has experienced what you have. You have lived fiercely and loved wholly. You intimately know grief and heartbreak because you have had the courage to love with your whole heart. You’ve taken risks. You’ve made decisions with your head, and you have made decisions with your heart. Some of these decisions you might wish you could take back, but you know deep down that they all led you to become the person you are today.

Maybe you’re still hurting. Maybe you’re still in pain. And I know it’s hard to see it now, but I promise, one day, it won’t hurt so much. One day, you’re going to look back and understand how all the events in your life led you to this beautiful state of being. And you’re going to look at yourself, and you’ll see your gold. You aren’t the perfect, unblemished person you came into the world as, but somehow, you’re something better.

    Your cracks are not empty.

They are filled with solid gold.

And the world needs you. Because there are other people who are hurting. Others who are just now becoming intimate with pain, and they need your guiding light. They need to know that it will get better. You see, these cracks and brokenness make you valuable, priceless, and so, so needed.

You are stunning. You are the Universe’s perfect artwork, and you are held in such love and reverence. When your heart broke, when you made the decision you wished you could take back, when your chest cracked open on your bedroom floor, the Universe did not dispose of you. It held you tenderly and gently, and then it lovingly honored your history not by concealing or hiding your cracks, but by filling them with something even more brilliant and perfect and precious and rare. With beautiful, stunning gold.

So whether or not you still feel like you are broken, embrace it. Honor your past. Honor the experiences that made you who you are right now. This does not mean you have to cling to them. Quite the opposite, actually. It means seeing them, acknowledging them, and then walking forward as your whole self, loving every golden crevice inside of you.

    Ending The Week With Positivity

No matter what happened this week, you always have control of your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. In fact, this is true at all times. In all moments, you are the only one who has any power over how you feel. And through all experiences, you choose your perspective; you get to choose whether you view your life experiences through a positive or negative lens.

So why should you choose positivity? Well first, I want to make it clear what it means to choose positivity. First and foremost, this does not mean glossing over or suppressing any heavy feelings you may be experiencing. It doesn’t mean pretending the bad doesn’t exist. And it doesn’t mean ignoring uncomfortable truths when they arise.

What it does mean is that in all situations, especially in ones that seem negative on the surface, you can find opportunities for lessons and growth. It means that even if you didn’t get exactly what you want this week, you still choose faith and hope. It means knowing that you have the courage to handle all experiences with strength and grace. And it means knowing that nothing outside of you can affect what happens inside of you unless you let it.

You can have a hard day and still feel so grateful for this life you get to live.

You can have a negative encounter with another person and know that their low and even toxic energy has nothing to do with you.

You can experience a setback and still trust that somehow, in some way, you’re still moving forward, even though it doesn’t always feel like it.

Below, you’ll find 40 Friday affirmations to end your week with a positive mindset. Some of these affirmations are focused on how you approach this brand new day. Others are geared toward cultivating a perspective of gratitude and positivity for the week as a whole. And you’ll find a few that are all about releasing your worries and using the weekend to focus on fun, play, and self-care.

Use these affirmations throughout your Friday to help you end the week on a positive note and maintain a perspective of hope, trust, and gratitude for this life you get to live. (And don’t forget to download your free printable Friday affirmations below!)
