    Cultivating Unconditional Self-Love

You are worthy of unconditional self-love.

And even more: you deserve to be loved every single day of your life.

Is that hard to say? It used to be for me. I had a hard time believing I “deserved” anything good in this world. I remember the first time I tried to say the affirmation, “I deserve joy.” Almost immediately, my inner bully heard these words and stampeded right out to speak her mind:

“Who are you to say that you deserve joy? How selfish can you be? What have you done to deserve anything? The world doesn’t revolve around you! Stop thinking about yourself so much!”

Ouch. That hurt. But it didn’t dissuade me. So I decided to re-frame my perspective:

I believe my best friend deserves infinite joy and love, right? Absolutely.

And my nieces and nephews? Always.

What about my neighbors, community members, and strangers I see on afternoon walks? Well, sure. I don’t know them, but I believe they deserve joy, too.

It’s just me, I realized. The only person I was being unfairly hard on was myself.

With this newfound perspective, my attitude began to shift. I started to speak lovingly to myself, knowing I was worthy of every single positive word I said.

And that question my inner bully had asked before?

“What have you done to deserve anything?”

Well, nothing. And everything. You see, I realized that I don’t actually have to do anything to deserve love, joy, peace, abundance, and all the good stuff in my life.

I was already deserving, just because I existed.

And the same is true for you.

Your very existence makes you worthy of unconditional self-love. You don’t have to do anything. You don’t have to prove anything. You don’t have to achieve anything.

    You just have to be.

    You are worthy.

    You are deserving.

And you are more than enough–just because you’re you.

    Always.

How to Use These Journal Prompts

The journal prompts below are designed to help you love, celebrate, and honor everything that makes you uniquely you. These journal prompts are all about you: what makes you special, how you make space in your life for self-love and self-care, and what practices you can incorporate into your life to cultivate even more unconditional love within.

There are no rules for how to approach these prompts. If you want, you can answer them one at a time, or you can skip around and find the ones that resonate most with you.

If possible, try to schedule 15 to 30 minutes for your journaling time. Find a quiet spot where you won’t be distracted, and set the intention to be open and honest with yourself. And most of all, release all judgment as you start to write. If an uncomfortable feeling arises, choose to have compassion for yourself.

    Remember this:

Self-love isn’t about cultivating perfection. Self-love is about loving your imperfections perfectly.

    Crystals and Gemstones

If you’re anything like me when I was first learning about crystals, you may feel a natural pull towards crystals and gemstones, but you’re not entirely sure what exactly to do with them.

I approached my journey with crystals assuming they were probably really complicated to use and that I had to have some kind of special power to make them work for me. However, all it took was a few Google searches and a trip to the local bookstore to realize that I’d been way off in this assumption.

I didn’t have to possess any superpowers to work with crystals.

I just needed to have an open mind, an open heart, and the willingness to trust and believe.

If you’re looking to incorporate crystals in your daily life, I’ve included everything you need to get started below: how to cleanse, program, and use your crystals, plus how to use crystal grids and pendulums.

I’ve also included a section on using crystals for manifestation as well as the best crystals for beginners. Finally, throughout this post, you’ll find links to crystals and accessories you can purchase today.

It may seem like an overwhelming amount of information at first, but I’ve simplified it into the most basic steps. And I promise, once you get started, you’ll find that using crystals and gemstones in your daily life is very easy. In fact, once you begin experiencing their profound transformational power, you’ll wonder why you ever waited so long to start.

    How to Cleanse Crystals

When you first purchase or receive a crystal, it’s likely touched many hands before you. It may have had a previous owner, or it has traveled long distances in a shipping container. However your crystal comes to you, you can bet that it still holds the energy of the people and places it’s seen.

That’s why cleansing your crystals after you receive them is so important. By cleansing your crystal, you’re starting with a blank energy slate, and you can then intentionally program it with your own positive energy.

Additionally, you should cleanse your crystal regularly, especially if it’s part of a piece of jewelry you wear often or if it’s one that you carry with you throughout the day. Your crystals continue to hold and store energy, and if they’re holding onto too much energy, they start to lose their effectiveness.

Cleansing your crystals releases this energy and allows them to be fully effective for you.

Luckily, cleansing crystals is easy. Use any of the methods below for cleansing your crystals and releasing trapped and stored energy within.

Water: For this method, I like to use clean, natural water like a creek, river, or stream, but it’s totally okay (and often easier) to use a faucet as well. Hold your stone beneath the surface or underneath the running water to cleanse. Just make sure to first do a quick Google search or consult a book on crystals to make sure water is safe for your stone. You don’t want to use this method for soft stones like Selenite.

Use Selenite or Clear Quartz: Selenite and Clear Quartz are unique in that they’re able to cleanse and purify other crystals. Lay your crystal on a piece of Selenite or Clear Quartz for at least twenty-four hours. If you can’t place your crystal on top, you can also place them side-by-side with their edges touching.

Nature: Nature is a powerful healer, not just for humans but for crystals as well. Lay your crystals out in nature and let them experience the healing presence of the earth for a day. You can place crystals on the soil, on a tree branch, on a potted plant, among the blades of grass, in your garden, or anywhere else outside where you feel a sense of peace and harmony.

Sun: Many crystals love the bright energy and light of the sun. Just make sure first that this is safe for your stone. Some stones, like Amethyst, shouldn’t be placed directly in the sun for too long.

Moon: You can place your crystals outside overnight anytime, but this is especially powerful during the Full Moon when the moonlight is brightest.

    How to Program Crystals

Programming crystals is all about setting intentions. This allows you to truly align with why you chose this crystal and what guidance, answers, or healing you hope it can provide for you.

It helps to come up with a sentence or two that aligns with the intention you want to set.

For instance, if you want to embrace more creativity in your life, your intention might be, “I am filled with inspired ideas and unlimited creativity. Limitless creativity is always at my fingertips.”

For protection from external negative energy, your intention may be, “I am protected from negative energy. All of the energy that flows within and around me supports my highest good and total well-being.

To begin programming your crystal, find a quiet spot where you’ll be free from outside distractions. You may want to light candles or cleanse your space before you begin. Do what feels most comfortable for you.

Hold your crystal within your palm and close your eyes. Visualize your intentions coming to life. For instance, to manifest more creativity, visualize yourself living your most creative life. Feel the positive feelings associated with embracing your inner creativity. Continue your visualization until you feel that the crystal has been programmed with your intention. (This will simply be an inner knowing.)

Some people like to begin by raising their crystal to their lips and gently blowing on the crystal. As you breathe, internally state your intention, repeating this for several minutes. If this practice feels comfortable for you, you can add it to your programming ritual.

    How to Use Crystals

There are several ways you can use crystals, some of which are more passive and others that require more active involvement. Even during the more passive practices, though, it’s still important to keep your intention in mind. Return to this intention throughout the day, and acknowledge the work your crystal is doing for you.

Wear Crystals as Jewelry: Rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings aren’t only beautiful, but they offer an easy way to keep your crystals nearby throughout the day. By wearing your gemstones as jewelry, your chosen stones can protect your energy, calm your mind, and soothe your spirit.

Meditate With Crystals: If you already have a meditation practice, or are looking to start one, crystals can be a profound addition to your practice. As you meditate, you can hold your crystal(s) in your palms or near your heart center. You can also place the stones over their corresponding energy center (chakra) while laying down. To learn more about chakras, check out my introduction to your body’s energy centers here. And to learn about specific chakra healing crystals and stones, check out this post.

Keep in Your Office/Workspace: Keep your gemstones visible in your office or workspace, or if you have a job that requires you to walk around, see if you can keep it in your pocket or somewhere accessible to you. Blue Lace Agate is the perfect crystal to keep with you while you work as it calms your mind, soothes your spirit, and helps you to maintain tranquility. Black Tourmaline is another one of my favorites because it protects you from external negative energy.

Create a Sacred Space: Crystals, candles, essential oils, pillows, books, plants . . . any and all of these components can be used to create a sacred space for yourself. Whatever you want to include, make your sacred space your own. Allow it to be a safe place filled with positive, healing energy. You can fill your sacred space with as many crystals as you want. Allow this to be a place where you can meditate, journal, or simply sit and hold your crystals, restoring harmony and peace within. For creating your own sacred space, check out my in-depth guide on how to create the perfect meditation table for you.

Create a Crystal Grid: More on this below!

    How to Use Crystal Grids

A crystal grid is a special geometric layout of stones formed with a specific intention in mind, such as to heal one or more of your chakras. The central stone in the grid corresponds with your intention, and the surrounding stones amplify your intentions and support the flow of positive energy.

To begin creating your grid, you first want to set your intention. Why are you creating this grid today? Know that there are no wrong answers. Maybe you want to manifest abundance. Maybe you want to align with your higher self. Or maybe you want to cultivate the courage and strength to make a big step in your personal life.

Whatever your intention is, take a moment to align with it and allow it to guide you as you create your grid.

After you’ve set your intention, you can begin creating your grid. To do this, you’ll want to pick your grid shape (triangle, circle, square) and which crystals and gemstones you want to incorporate into your crystal grid.

Choose crystals that coincide with your intention. For instance, if your intention is to open your heart and cultivate more self-love, you might incorporate crystals such as Rose Quartz, Rhodonite, Pink Opal, and Clear Quartz.

Place the stone that most powerfully resonates with your intention in the center; this is called the Anchor Stone. Place the other stones around the Anchor Stone in the specific layout you’ve chosen. If this is your first time creating a crystal grid, it may help to use a grid template. You can find some on Amazon (I’ve linked to a few below) or online. I really like this article from Love & Light School of Crystal Therapy on how to create a crystal grid, and it also includes links to a free template pack.

You don’t have to only include crystals in your grid, though. Do you have a locket from your grandmother that represents unconditional love to you? Use this powerful loving energy in your grid!

Finally, you can activate the grid by stating your intention aloud. You can also use a clear quartz point to activate your crystal grid. The article I linked to above gives a detailed explanation on how to use a clear quartz point to activate your grid.

Now that your crystal grid is ready, you’ll want to make a point of sitting with your grid daily to connect with its energy. I like to do this through meditation, but if you don’t meditate, you can simply sit in front of it. Think back to your intention. If your intention is to cultivate more self-love and self-compassion, feel the energy of unconditional love flowing to and through you.

    How to Use Crystal Pendulums

A pendulum is a string, cord, or chain with a small object at the end. This object is usually a triangular shaped crystal, but some pendulums will have objects made of wood, stone, metal, or glass on the end.

Pendulums are most often used to gain clarity and insight into a question or issue you may be having. The practice of crystal dowsing or pendulum dowsing means to use your pendulum to receive guidance on a situation you may be dealing with.

There’s no rules about what kind of situation this might be, or whether it’s objectively big or small. You might turn to your pendulum for help on finding your lost car keys or for guidance on what to eat for dinner tonight. You can also turn to it for guidance on whether you should leave your job or move across the country or fully commit to that new person you’ve started seeing.

There’s a lot more to be said about the power of the pendulum, and if you’re curious to learn more, I encourage you to read my blog post on all things pendulum-related here.

For this post, we’re going to skip right to the how-to’s: how to use a crystal pendulum to receive guidance on any situation you may be encountering in your current experience.

Before you use your pendulum, you’ll want to cleanse and charge it as outlined in the steps for cleansing and programming crystals above. Consider the time you spend working with your pendulum to be sacred, removing distractions so that you can focus solely on the connection between you and the pendulum.

Here are the essential steps for using a pendulum. Again, I go into a bit more detail in the blog post I linked to above.

    1. Sit in a comfortable position holding your pendulum between your thumb and forefinger (using your dominant hand). Hold the pendulum out in front of you until it becomes motionless.
    2. If this is the first time you’re using your pendulum, you’ll want to learn how it communicates. To do this, you can simply say, “Please show me a yes response.” Patiently watch and wait for the pendulum to start moving; it might move side-to-side, back-and-forth, clockwise, or counterclockwise. Make note of the direction it moves. This is your “yes” response. Do the same thing for a “no” response. If you’d like, you can also ask for a “maybe” or “neutral” response. You can also ask questions you already know the answer to, such as your name, birthday, and where you live. Just make sure to formulate your questions in a “yes/no” format.
    3. Once you’re comfortable with your pendulum and understand how it communicates, you can begin asking it deeper questions. (Or keep it lighthearted, if you’d like.) Just remember to phrase your questions to have yes/no answers, and be as specific as possible to get clear answers
    4. You can also use your pendulum for help finding lost items or people. If you lost your keys, hold the pendulum over a map of your house and let it lead you to the right location. On a larger scale, you can hold the pendulum over a map of a city, state, or even the world.
    5. Again, for deeper insight into pendulums, I definitely encourage you to check out my post, How to Use a Pendulum (A Complete Guide).

How to Use Crystals for Manifestation

Manifestation is the practice of visualizing your dreams and vibrating at the frequency of your desires as if they’ve already come true. This belief is rooted in the idea that what we give out, we get back.

So if you vibrate at the frequency of love, you attract more love to you. If you vibrate at the frequency of abundance, you attract more abundance to you. And if you vibrate at the frequency of joy, you attract more joyful experiences into your life.

So how exactly do crystals help with manifestation? Crystals help you to become the energy of what it is that you want to manifest. They restore harmony and balance within you and empower you to live as your highest and most authentic self. I

f you want to manifest love, your chosen crystal isn’t simply helping you to attract love; it’s gently guiding you to release any blockages and barriers you may have to receiving love and helping you to heal any inner pain you’re still holding onto. Your crystal will guide you to cultivate a deep sense of love within so that you truly become the embodiment of love. And by becoming the embodiment of love, you become a magnet for more love to flow into your life.

To use crystals for manifestation, you’ll want to follow the steps outlined above for cleansing and programming crystals. My favorite way to program a crystal for manifestation is to hold it in my hands during meditation and visualize my dreams and desires coming true while feeling all of the positive, high-vibe emotions related to my dreams.

Below, I’ve listed some of the powerful crystals that help with manifesting different emotions and experiences into your life. You can use any of the methods I outlined in the How to Use Crystals section to help you get started with using crystals to manifest what you desire. I will note that when it comes to using crystals for manifestation, I recommend being intentional with placement whenever possible.

If you’re keeping a crystal nearby, think of the ways you can amplify the crystal’s powers. For instance, if you want to manifest financial abundance, you might keep a small Citrine crystal in your wallet or purse. Want to manifest creative ideas? Keep a Carnelian gemstone in your creative studio or with all of your art supplies.

    Crystals for Manifestation

    • Manifest Abundance: Citrine, Pyrite, Clear Quartz, Tiger’s Eye
    • Manifest Love: Rose Quartz, Rhodonite, Pink Topaz, Emerald
    • Manifest Friendship: Pink Opal, Citrine
    • Manifest Health: Garnet, Bloodstone, Clear Quartz, Selenite
    • Manifest Creativity: Carnelian, Citrine, Amethyst

To boost your manifestation powers, pair the crystals above with Aventurine, Goldstone, or Jade, which are all powerful amplifier crystals.

    Best Crystals for Beginners

If you’re just starting your crystal collection, I’ve listed some of the best crystals to start with below. However, don’t be afraid to walk into a crystal shop or scroll through an online crystal store and simply find the ones that speak to you. When I bought my first crystal, I knew absolutely nothing about crystals and simply admired them for their beauty. I picked out a beautiful Amethyst crystal that called to me, and it’s still one of my absolute favorites to this day.

    • Clear Quartz: Clarity, Manifestation, Healing, Spiritual Growth
    • Selenite: Purity, Peace, Light, Clarity, Consciousness
    • Amethyst: Peace, Spirituality, Intuition, Calmness, Wisdom
    • Rose Quartz: Love, Compassion, Peace, Friendship
    • Citrine: Joy, Abundance, Prosperity, Energy
    • Black Tourmaline: Energy Protection, Grounding

Also remember that Clear Quartz and Selenite have the special ability of cleansing other crystals, so I definitely recommend having at least one of these crystals in your collection.

    Discovering Affirmations

In 2014, my introduction to affirmations came in the form of body positive affirmations.

I had found a list of 100 body positive affirmations somewhere online and decided to copy it and email it to myself. While I would love to tell you that this discovery propelled me into a journey of total and complete self-love, I’m pretty sure that email stayed at the bottom of my inbox for the next couple years, untouched and ignored.

While I wanted to accept my body completely, I had a hard time accepting myself if I didn’t fit into a perfect box. I really only wanted to love my body on the condition that I could change it and mold it into something that society would deem beautiful.

The following years were filled with hardship and heartbreak as I battled with the girl I saw in the mirror, but I wouldn’t trade those years for anything as they allowed me to learn and grow into the confident, self-loving woman I am now.

Back then, I also had no idea how to truly use affirmations. I saw them as nice and uplifting words but didn’t understand their inherent power. I wasn’t sure how to get the words on the screen to resonate inside me.

And if you’re in that place, too, that’s okay. I’ve included some tips below to help you with using body positive affirmations so that they truly resonate with you.

I recommend using the body-positive affirmations in this post in tandem with other types of affirmations, like these affirmations for self-love and these ones for self-confidence. I find that body positive affirmations can be most powerful when used with other types of affirmations that don’t just focus on your body but on all parts of you: your heart, your spirit, your kindness, and your inherent and undeniable worthiness.

How to Use Body Positive Affirmations

While the notes I’m about to give are certainly true for all types of affirmations, I want to emphasize them especially for body positive affirmations because this can be a sensitive subject for many.

You may come to an affirmation in the list below that just feels off. What do I mean by that? Here’s an example:

Imagine that you’re reading the affirmation, “My body is truly beautiful.” You recite it, trying to feel the positive emotions associated with these words, but in the back of your mind, you hear a little voice that says, yeah right.

While you definitely want to be able to say this affirmation with confidence, you’re still on a path of healing your body insecurities, and you’re not quite yet at a place where you can assert that your body is truly beautiful.

    And that’s okay.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with you if you experience discomfort with any of the affirmations below (or any affirmations at all, for that matter).

First, if you experience this, release any self-judgment or self-criticism over your discomfort. Know that it’s okay to be exactly where you are in your healing journey. Have compassion for where you currently are, and remember that you don’t have to race to the finish line all at once.

You have the right to take this one step at a time, at your own pace.

When I discover an affirmation that I don’t feel completely comfortable with, I like to employ what I call the Ladder Method. In this method, I take a step back from the original affirmation and alter it in a way that feels more comfortable for me.

For instance, I might use the phrases I am open to . . . or I am willing to . . . in my newly altered affirmation.

Let’s try this with the affirmation I used above: My body is truly beautiful.

How can I alter this in a way that will feel more comfortable for me? I could say, I am open to seeing all the ways in which my body is truly beautiful. Or, I am willing to believe that my body is truly beautiful.

You might use your altered affirmation for a few weeks before taking the next step closer to the original affirmation. Your next step might be something like this: Even though I don’t always see it, I know in my heart that my body is truly beautiful.

Feel empowered to modify any of the affirmations below so that they’ll feel more comfortable for you. It’s also completely okay to skip an affirmation and choose to solely focus on the ones that feel good to you. In time, you might decide to come back to the list and see if any of the other affirmations begin to resonate a little more.

Remember: take this at your own pace, and show yourself unconditional kindness and compassion, no matter what.

    Cultivating Happiness

When I turned five years old, I remember blowing out the candles on my birthday cake and making a wish for limitless candy that I could eat whenever I wanted. M&M’s were my favorite, but I wasn’t super picky: chocolate candy, fruity candy, hard candies and lollipops . . . I’d take it all.

Okay, maybe not all. Black licorice and spicy candies were a hard pass.

As the next couple years passed by, I’d continue to make wishes for new toys, CDs, and my own stereo so I could lock myself in my room and jam out to Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys without interruptions.

I don’t remember when the transition happened, but at some point, a realization had occurred to me. Toys, CDs, and limitless candy were all cool, but what if there was a way that I could have all of that and more?

What if there was one word that could give me everything I had ever wanted?

    Happiness.

If I wished for happiness, I thought, that meant that I’d get everything I wanted without there being a catch. I’d get all the things I’d been dreaming of, plus my friends and family would be healthy and happy, too.

It was a win-win for everyone.

My concept of happiness was simple when I was a sweet ten-year-old who wanted nothing more than to ride bikes and read books and jump on my best friend’s trampoline. After I graduated high school and began navigating my way through college, I spent a lot of time relearning what happiness truly meant, often overcomplicating it and sometimes believing it would always be just out of reach.

I’ve come full circle since then, once again simplifying my definition of happiness, but I’ve also learned something that I didn’t quite understand as a young girl.

My happiness never came from all the candy or toys or CDs or any of the things I was given. Sure, those things brought me fleeting moments of joy, but lasting happiness didn’t come from things.

Lasting happiness, I learned, comes from within.

I’ve learned that happiness comes when I make happiness a priority, and even more importantly, happiness comes when I choose it.

And what I’ve discovered most of all is that happiness is not a result of getting everything I want; happiness comes when I feel grateful for everything I already have.

When I view my life from a perspective of appreciation and abundance rather than scarcity and lack, happiness and joy flow effortlessly into my inner and outer worlds.

Below, you’ll find 45 positive affirmations for happiness and joy. Your Journey to Your True Self

Who is your truest, most authentic self? When you close your eyes and try to picture yourself, who do you see? What qualities would you use to describe yourself? How have past experiences shaped you into the person you are today?

These are just some of the questions you can begin to ask yourself as you walk forward on your personal growth journey.

But first, what exactly does that mean? “Your personal growth journey.”

Personal growth entails getting in touch with your innermost self and looking into who you truly are: beyond appearances, beyond what’s expected of you, beyond even what you expect of yourself.

When you get past labels and preconceived notions, who is your authentic self?

It also requires you to ask important questions and respond with complete honesty. What does your heart really want? What limiting beliefs are preventing you from going after your dreams? What’s holding you back from living the life that was truly meant for you?

And as you ask these questions of yourself, you must then go beyond just asking. You must do.

What self-care practices will help you to align with your best self? Start those today.

What positive habits will serve and support your mind, body, and spirit? Start adding them into your daily routine this month.

What does your soul need? Let it in.

Below, you’ll find 45 personal growth journal prompts to support you in your journey. As you go through these questions, you might find that some take up pages of writing, while others can be answered quickly. There’s no right or wrong amount of time or space to use for these questions. Just keep digging for the truth.

And that’s the key, really: truth. Authenticity. Being honest with yourself.

Don’t simply tell yourself what you want to hear; tell yourself what you need to hear. But do so with love and compassion. If you find yourself judging or criticizing yourself for your answers, step back and gently assert that criticism has no place here.

Know that you are always, always worthy of kindness and compassion, even when you’re writing about your own perceived imperfections or mistakes you’ve made in the past.

Know that all experiences have supported your growth and have led you to where you are right now.

I hope these personal growth journal prompts support you in your journey and help you to align with the person you were always meant to be: the real and true you.

    Raising Your Vibration

To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of the phrase, raise your vibration.

Don’t get me wrong: I absolutely believe in the spirit of it, and I’ve used the phrase myself many times–even here on this website.

But I think there’s something missing when we say that we’re raising our vibration.

It isn’t simply that you’re raising your vibration; you are positive vibrations.

    Here’s what I mean:

Think about the word love. What is love to you?

Is love something you find outside yourself, or is love something that starts within you?

At your purest, most foundational state, you are love. Love is your essence and being. Love is who you are.

So you’re never trying to raise your vibration to the frequency of love.

Rather, you’re releasing everything that makes you forget who you are; you’re letting go of all the heaviness that weighs you down and separates you from love.

And this is true for all positive vibrations. You are joy. You are freedom. You are peace. You are abundance.

You don’t need to reach outside of yourself to gain access to these states. None of it is ever separate from you.

So when I use the phrase raise your vibration, know that this doesn’t mean you’re trying to achieve or become something that you’re not. Rather, it means that you’re returning to the very core of who you are.

    Why Raise Your Vibration?

The phrase raise your vibration is often used in discussions about manifestation, so let’s begin here.

    What is manifestation?

To manifest something means to visualize your dreams and desires and to vibrate at the frequency of your desires as if they’ve already come true. This belief is rooted in the idea that what we give out, we get back.

So if you vibrate at the frequency of love, you invite more love to enter your life. If you vibrate at the frequency of abundance, you attract more abundance to you. And if you vibrate at the frequency of joy, you attract more joyful experiences into your reality.

Now, does this mean you have to force yourself into a state of joy and positivity all of the time? Absolutely not.

In fact, trying to suppress your emotions in order to manufacture false positivity can be more harmful in the long-run. I discuss this in more detail below in the Emotional Guidance Scale section below.

Beyond manifestation though, maintaining a high vibration is important because you deserve to live a life that makes you feel truly good and alive. This moment right now is your life, and you deserve to experience true joy each and every day–not just every once in a while.

Below are 10 practices you can utilize to quickly raise your vibration in 30 seconds or less. You’ll also find some suggestions for longer practices you can incorporate into your daily life to maintain a high vibration and release anything that may be weighing you down.

How To Raise Your Vibration In 30 Seconds (Or Less)

    Gratitude

When it comes to supporting your mind, body, and spirit, there are two vibrations that rank supreme: gratitude and love. (We’ll get to love down below.)

One of the quickest ways I can get myself back into alignment when I’m feeling off is through choosing gratitude. Often, it’s easy to focus on what’s going wrong, and we lose sight of what’s going right. Gratitude is a gentle nudge to root ourselves to the present moment and focus on the abundance that already exists in our lives.

A simple yet profound way to raise your vibration when you’re feeling low is to think of three things you’re grateful for in that moment. You might choose to look around the room or space you’re in and find three things in the room that you appreciate. Or you can look within and find three things inside yourself that you feel truly thankful for: your talents, your abilities, your body, your breath.

You can also look at all the components that make up your beautiful life: your family and friends, your home, your job, and all that you have.

When your vibrations are low, find things in your life that you can be grateful for right now. Recognize that while everything may not be perfect, there is still so much in the world to appreciate.

And if you need help, check out this article on 500 things to be grateful for today.

    Present Moment

Often, when my vibration is low, it’s because I’m worried about the future: bills, deadlines, relationships, and all kinds of uncertainties swirling through my mind.

And while I have compassion for the part of me that worries and gets anxiety about the future, I also recognize that a constant state of worry puts me at a low frequency, causing me to attract the very experiences that I’m worried about.

So how do I release my worries and raise my vibration?

I simply take a deep breath and say, “In this moment, I have everything I need.”

It seems like such a simple phrase, but it has changed my inner world profoundly. These words remind me that right now, in this present moment, I have all that I need. The future isn’t real. It doesn’t exist yet. Right now is all that exists. And right now, in this moment, I always have more than enough.

Here are a few other mantras that can help you return to the present moment:

    • “I am exactly where I am meant to be.”
    • “All is well.”
    • “I choose to be here, right now.”
    • “This moment is a miracle.”

I also recommend connecting with your breath and taking a deep, soulful inhale, then releasing all of the negative energy through your exhale. Root yourself here, in this moment. Let this moment give you everything you need.

    Positive Affirmations

If you follow me on social media or have read some of my other blog posts, you might already know that I’m all about positive affirmations. They’re an integral part of my daily world, and I believe in them wholeheartedly because of how profoundly they’ve changed my inner world.

So first, what exactly is a positive affirmation? An affirmation is a positive affirming statement that’s designed to boost your self-belief and support your overall well-being: mind, body, and soul.

While I have hundreds and likely even thousands of positive affirmations that I’ve repeated throughout my life, I’ve found that some of the most meaningful are often the simplest:

    I am worthy.

    I am whole.

    I am enough.

If you’re in a low vibration and need a quick way to pick yourself up, recite an empowering affirmation that resonates with you. This might change depending on the experience. For instance, when I’m working out, I’ll affirm that I am strong, capable, and resilient, and if I’m in a situation that requires me to take a risk, I’ll affirm that I am courageous and able to handle anything that comes my way.

The key with affirmations is to truly feel the positive words in your bones. So when I say that I’m worthy, I truly feel worthy. And when I say that I’m brave and courageous, I feel in my heart that I am those things.

If you’re looking for inspiration on positive affirmations that you can start using today, check out the blog posts below!

    Vision Board

A vision board is a collection of words and/or images that represent your highest self living your ideal life. Some common components of a vision board include the following categories: Relationships, Career, Home, Health, Wealth, Spirituality, Fitness, Car, Self-Care, and Hobbies/Fun. Many people like to include positive affirmations on their vision board as well.

What makes a vision board a powerful tool isn’t simply the existence of the pictures or words on it but the positive feelings they inspire when you look at them.

To unlock the magic of a vision board, you must allow yourself to feel the positive emotions of the images within yourself. If you put financial prosperity, a loving relationship, and freedom to travel on your board, then visualize what it would be like to have those things now. Imagine how you would feel the day you have it all and feel it in this moment.

When you’re at a low vibration, allow yourself to step back and look at your vision board for a few seconds. Feel the positive emotions associated with all of your beautiful dreams.

On the go? No problem! I actually use the VisuApp on my phone for a way to keep my vision board with me at all times! The app allows you to save images and write empowering affirmations with your images if you wish. (I have no connection to VisuApp; I just like using it!)

If you prefer the DIY version of a mobile vision board, you can also create a folder in your photos called My Future and save images to it that represent your dreams and desires. Anytime you’re feeling down, scan through your photos and breathe in the positive energy from the pictures.

    Love

I’ve mentioned before that love and gratitude are the highest vibrations, so if you’re able to lift yourself into a vibration of love, there’s truly no better place to be. (But if you’re not able to? That’s okay! I speak more about this in the Emotional Guidance Scale section below.)

So how exactly do you do this?

This might sound cheesy, but one practice that’s really helped me is simply telling myself I love you several times a day. When I’m feeling down, I’ll look into my own reflection and say, “I love you.” And when I’m internally beating myself up because I made a mistake, I’ll again tell myself I love you.

This is my way of saying that yes, I’m imperfect and make mistakes sometimes, but I am still worthy of unconditional love.

Another practice is similar to the gratitude practice I mentioned above: find three things in your current environment that represent love to you. It could be a necklace from your mom, a bouquet of flowers from your partner, a drawing from your child, or something else meaningful.

If there’s nothing in your current environment that symbolizes love for you, simply think about three people, things, or experiences that represent love to you and feel the love you have in your heart for these beautiful parts of your life.

One final thing – and I fully admit that this isn’t easy and that you may roll your eyes at me – is to silently send a person love, even if they’re the catalyst for your low vibration. Someone cut you off in traffic? It’s okay to react angrily, but don’t hold onto that anger. Feel it, release it, and send them well-wishes. The same could go for a boss who gives you a last-minute task or when you have a frustrating experience at the grocery store.

You don’t have to like the experience. But you don’t have to hold onto it either.

Release it and choose love. Be love. See love. The more you choose love, the more unexpected places you’ll find love in your life.

    Nature

If you don’t have time to go on a long nature walk, see if you can step outside for thirty seconds. Stand in the sun. Breathe in the fresh air. Connect with your breath. Connect with the world around you. Remember that like a tree, you are strong, centered, stable, and rooted firmly to the ground.

    Hugs

This might be the simplest on this list, but that doesn’t mean it’s not an important or meaningful practice. I’ve often found that a warm embrace from someone I love is exactly what I need to lift me out of a low vibration. It reminds me of what’s truly important and helps me to feel love and gratitude for what I have.

Hug your partner, child, parent, friend, or anyone else who feels like love to you. (This can also be a pet!)

    Breathing Exercises

A breathing exercise is conscious, purposeful breathing with the intention of calming the mind, relieving stress, improving your lung function, and grounding yourself to the present moment.

What I love about breathing exercises is that they feel like mini-meditations that you can do practically anytime and anywhere.

My personal favorite breathing exercise is alternate nostril breathing, which you can read more about here.

Another simple yet powerful practice is the 4-7-8 breathing technique. In this practice, you inhale through your nose for 4 seconds, pause at the top of your inhale for 7 seconds, and exhale through your mouth for 8 seconds. Repeat this 4 to 8 times in a session.

Breathing exercises are known to help calm the mind, reduce stress and anxiety, relax the body, and improve overall well-being. If you’re feeling particularly anxious and stressed, see if you can pause for a few moments and focus on your breathing.

Remember what I said in the intro: raising your vibration isn’t so much about becoming something as it is releasing everything you’re not. A breathing exercise allows you to release the heavy energy that comes from the outer world so you can return to the core of who you are in your inner world: peaceful, steady, calm, centered, and strong.

    Highest Self

Your highest self is your essential self; it’s the eternal part of you that’s untouched by human experiences. This is the truest, most authentic part of you.

I’ve found that this practice especially helps when my low vibrational state is self-imposed i.e. when I know I’m overreacting or being unreasonable, but the surface-level part of me is doubling down on the negativity.

In these moments, I ask myself, “What would my highest self do?”

For me, I know my highest self is gentle, loving, compassionate, and kind, so when I ask myself what my highest self would do, I know that she (I) would embody these qualities in all situations. This is a powerful practice to raise your vibration because it allows you to release negative feelings that aren’t serving you and to align with the energy of love.

Now, I just want to note that this practice isn’t meant to guilt you into anything. It’s not meant to make you feel guilty for any negativity you may be experiencing. You are a human being who is allowed the grace of imperfection. It’s all a part of the beautiful messiness of the human experience.

This practice is simply meant to remind you of who you truly are and to release the bad stuff that sometimes gets in the way of that. And when you align with your true self, you’re able to release anything that’s lowering your vibration.

    Light

Years ago, the first time I did a guided meditation, the instructor gently guided me to close my eyes and imagine that a white beam of light was shining down on me. The light entered through my head and slowly spread to fill my entire being. I saw this light filling up my cells and radiating from within, casting a soft glow around my entire body.

This light was love. It was protection. It was a reminder of my eternal self. And it showed me that I am never alone and that I am always, always loved.

If it’s safe to do so, you can choose at any moment to close your eyes and feel this light within and all around you. This light is always a part of you. Sometimes, it’s obscured from our vision due to external influences, but we can choose at any moment to connect with it again.

This light is a reminder that you are something more than this human experience. You are not trying to find high vibrations; you are high vibrations. You’re simply releasing anything that suppresses this truth.

    Emotional Guidance Scale

If you’re experiencing a particularly low vibration, you don’t immediately have to force yourself back into a high vibration that doesn’t really feel honest or good to you. In fact, trying to suppress your feelings is one of the worst things you can do, because ultimately, that energy doesn’t really go away. It just becomes stuck inside of you and lingers until you’re ready to deal with it.

Abraham Hicks’ Emotional Guidance Scale is the best example I’ve seen to explain how you can help yourself in these situations.

The Emotional Guidance Scale is a scale of emotions that we often feel throughout our lives. These emotions range from Joy, Appreciation, Empowerment, Freedom, and Love to Fear, Grief, Depression, Despair, and Powerlessness.

In between all of these emotions, though, are a bunch of other commonly felt emotions. For instance, Positive Expectation and Belief may not be at the same level as Joy and Love, but they’re still pretty high up there. On the other hand, emotions like Discouragement or Anger may be perceived as negative emotions, but they’re not as low as Depression or Grief.

If your emotions are at a level of Depression or Grief, it could actually be detrimental to try to jump straight to feelings of Love and Joy. Why? Because it likely won’t be real.

Like I said above, trying to suppress your negative emotions and force yourself to feel positive only means you’re holding onto those negative emotions within, allowing that energy to stagnate inside your body. Healing requires feeling and understanding your emotions before you can release them.

It’s also really, really hard to force yourself to go from a feeling of grief to one of joy. Doing this often forces you into something you’re not ready for, and if you’re unable to reach that state of joy, you’ll likely feel even worse as a result.

So what can you do? Instead of reaching for a vibration that is far beyond your current state, constantly reach for a slightly better vibration.

Maybe you can’t jump from Grief to Joy, but you might be able to jump from Grief to Anger, which is actually higher up on the Emotional Guidance Scale. Then maybe you’ll jump from Anger to Blame, and from Blame to Disappointment. Disappointment might turn into Frustration, which turns into Pessimism, then Boredom. And from Boredom, you move to Contentment, then Hopefulness, then Positive Expectation, then Enthusiasm, then Passion, and finally, you reach the levels of Joy and Love.

(Of course, it’s very rarely as easy as it sounds. Most likely, you’ll continue to jump up and back down again, and that’s okay. Give yourself extra compassion as you go through this process.)

So when you hear the term raise your vibration, know that this doesn’t mean you have to jump to the highest possible emotions all the time. It means constantly reaching for the better feeling, even if it’s only a little bit at a time.

Here’s the entirety of Abraham Hicks’ Emotional Guidance Scale, from highest to lowest. You can also learn more about the scale here.

    • Joy/Appreciation/Empowerment/Freedom/Love
    • Passion

    A Case of the Mondays

    Monday morning.

Typically, these two words are met with audible groans and thinly veiled resentment.

If you’re like me, Monday has been something of a supervillain throughout your life. Growing up, it represents the end of a weekend of freedom and the return to school with all of its structure and rules. And as you get older, well, that doesn’t change very much, but now school has been replaced with a 40+ hour work week and loads of responsibility.

And the thing about this supervillain? There is no defeating it.

No matter how hard you may wish, there’s nothing in the universe that can cause Monday to just magically go away.

But . . . what if there was a way to defeat it?

No, you can’t make Mondays disappear into oblivion, but what if you could do something even better?

What if you could make Monday the hero of your story?

At the end of every year, we strap on our dancing shoes (okay, maybe our fuzzy socks) and change into our best outfits (or favorite pajamas) and celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of a new one. A new year is a blank slate. It represents fresh starts and new beginnings.

So what if we treated Mondays like this as well?

Monday is the beginning of a brand new week, and it, too, is a blank slate. You can create anything with a brand new Monday. It’s the ultimate fresh start, and the truly incredible thing is, we get to experience it 52 times a year.

Monday sets the tone for your entire week, so why not take back your power and embrace it with positivity? Flip the phrase “a case of the Mondays” on its head. Let it be something wondrous and kind of magical.

You get to choose how you want to greet this new week.

Choose joy. Choose wonder. Choose delight.

Choose to view Monday as a miracle. Let that feeling wash over you, and step into Monday with enthusiasm, knowing you are exactly where you’re meant to be, creating the beautiful life of your dreams.

    Defining Success

    What is success?

The truth is, I can’t answer that question.

    Not for you, at least.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned over the past few years is that we each have the right to define success on our own terms.

So when you ask the question, “What is success?” the only person who can give you an answer that feels true and authentic for you is you.

Success may mean meeting or exceeding an income goal. It may mean a promotion or external recognition of your hard work. It might also mean your family is safe and healthy, and your home is filled with joy and love.

Success may mean that you took the next step toward living the life of your dreams.

And still, success may mean letting go. Success may mean surrender. Success may mean you didn’t get what you wanted, but you can see how maybe each obstacle and perceived failure is leading you to somewhere better than you had imagined.

Success may mean you woke up today, and you put one foot on the ground, and then the other, and here you are, still breathing. Still living. Still trying, no matter how heavy the air around you feels.

And that – that is worth everything.

So as you read through these positive affirmations for success, give yourself permission to define success on your own terms. Think about what success really means to you.

Not to your boss. Not to your parents. Not to the world outside yourself.

    But to you.

And know that whatever your definition of success is, you are worthy of experiencing it fully.

You are worthy of a life of true joy, freedom, and bliss. You are worthy of the success you’ve been dreaming about, even if it looks different than what someone else would define as “successful.”

Follow the call of your soul. Listen to your own inner voice. Step forward on the path your heart is leading you on.

And know that you are always, always worthy of your deepest dreams and desires.

    Positive Affirmations for Success

The 12 Laws Of Karma Explained (A Complete Guide)

In this article, discover the true meaning of karma, plus learn what the 12 Laws of Karma are and how you can use them to create a life of genuine joy, purpose, passion, and fulfillment.

    12 laws of karma
Pin this for later! The 12 Laws of Karma Explained (A Complete Guide)

    What Is Karma?

What do you think of when you heard the word karma?

For many of us, our first thought is the saying, “What goes around comes around.”

Often, this is said with a negative connotation. When you see or hear about somebody who lies, steals, or treats another with unkindness, you may say, “Karma will come back around and catch up with them.”

While this is one aspect of karma–and the central idea in the First Law of Karma (The Great Law)–there’s actually a lot more to the concept of karma than most of us realize.

In Sanskrit, the word karma means “action.”

When I have a good thought or do a good deed, this goodness has positive effects and ultimately comes back to me. When I have a bad thought or do something that I know is harmful, the negative effects will ultimately come back to me as well.

Good actions beget more goodness; bad actions beget more badness.

But it’s not just about good and bad.

Rather, the important thing is realizing that every action has meaning; everything you do and say contributes to the overall whole.

And most of the time, what we consider to be “good” or “bad” is subjective depending on our perspective and life experience. This is especially important to remember when it comes to events happening in your own life.

When you believe something bad is happening to you, it may be time to take a step back and evaluate your life with gentle and non-judgmental awareness.

What lessons might the universe be trying to teach you? Are you blaming others for what happens in your life, or are you able to take personal responsibility? Could there be any goodness to what you perceive as bad?

Rather than saying, “This bad thing is always happening to me,” you have the opportunity to turn it around and ask, “What can I learn from this experience?”

How To Use The 12 Laws Of Karma

You get to decide your personal relationship with these laws and how you’ll use them to guide your own life path.

But I do want to offer this advice:

Don’t view these laws as rules that are meant to tie you down or fit you into a box.

The word “law” may have a negative connotation for some, as you may view it as an unbending rule that prevents you from experiencing true freedom.

But the opposite is true here.

The 12 Laws of Karma are not meant to limit or constrict you; through their very nature, they’re meant to lead you to a life of joy, freedom, passion, purpose, and love.

These laws are designed to show you the road map to a beautiful and fulfilling life. They help you to live in the present moment and find joy in this moment right now, no matter what your external world may look like.

And they show you the way to creating meaningful change and living the life you’ve always desired: the beautiful and abundant life of your dreams.

So as you read through the 12 Laws of Karma, allow yourself to gently explore them with an open heart, receiving them as a loving gift from the universe. These laws are not meant to hinder you but rather to show you the path to true freedom and to a life filled with love, fulfillment, and abundance.

    The 12 Laws Of Karma

    The Great Law

The Great Law, also known as The Law of Cause and Effect, fits what most of us traditionally think of when we hear the word karma. Anyone familiar with manifestation and the Law of Attraction will also be familiar with the concepts presented in this law.

The foundation of the Great Law is the idea that whatever we put out into the world is what we get back. While you may think of this in terms of actions (i.e. if you see someone drop their wallet and pick it up to give back to them, this kindness will come back to you), it’s also important to view it in terms of energy.

The energy you put out into the world is what comes back to you, whether you’re conscious of it or not.

Say you wake up every morning feeling frustrated and annoyed that you have to go to work again today. The shower water is never hot enough, the other cars on your commute are always driving too slow, and everyone else seems to be getting raises and promotions but not you.

You have a scarcity mindset; no matter how much you have, it’s never enough. Because of this, you emit negative energy into the universe. And even though you don’t want to receive more negativity, that’s what you keep getting: more scarcity, more lack, more lukewarm showers and slow commutes.

But what if you changed your perspective? What if you stepped into the shower feeling grateful for the running water that keeps you clean? What if you focus on the fact that you have reliable transportation to get you to work? What if every time one of your coworkers got a raise or promotion, you cheered them on?

Things change once you start viewing your world from the perspective of gratitude and appreciation; you emit positivity into the world, and thus, you receive more positive energy in return.

Do you want abundance in your life? Become the embodiment of abundance. Do you want love? Start with showing yourself unconditional love, then share that love with the world around you. If you want something, become the embodiment of that thing, then watch as more of it flows into your life in beautiful and miraculous ways.

    The Law of Creation

The first law flows effortlessly into this second law, and it’s likely you’ll quickly see how all of these laws are intertwined.

The Law of Creation states that you must take action to create the life you desire. You are a powerful creator, and you have the power to co-create your life along with the universe. But too often, we sit back, hoping things will work out but not actively doing anything about it. You must become an active participant in your story.

This doesn’t mean trying to control outcomes, forcing things to happen, or stubbornly staying on a path that doesn’t truly feel right for you.

Rather, it goes back to the idea of putting out the energy you want to receive. And it also means taking inspired action when your intuition leads you in a certain direction.

If you want to create abundance, first become abundance. Then, when you feel that nudge to take action, do so in a state of effortless flow. This is what co-creating is: setting an intention, telling the universe what you want, become the embodiment of what you want, and trusting the universe to lead you where you’re meant to go.

    The Law of Humility

Are you able to accept responsibility for your past and current reality? For instance, let’s go back to the “hate your job” scenario. Let’s say that you’re in a position you don’t enjoy, and you haven’t received the promotion or raise you think you deserve. You enter the office with a bad attitude and leave with an even worse one.

Do you blame your boss or your coworkers for your unhappiness?

Is there someone else a few cubicles away who seems to be getting all of the rewards you want, and you blame his or her success for your failure?

The Law of Humility is all about accepting that you have created your current reality through actions, choices, and the energy you’ve emitted. It’s about not blaming others for everything that’s seemingly going wrong in your life but taking responsibility for your current place in life.

In order to change something, you must first accept it. So in order to change the circumstances of the job you don’t like, you must accept the role you’ve played in creating your current experience; through acceptance, you remove your blinders, embrace the truth, and are able to see what must change in order to create a life that you love.

    The Law of Growth

Do you consider yourself a fixer? Do you good-intentionally try to change the people in your life in order to help them? When things are going badly, do you first try to change your external world (places, people, things) before looking internally?

The Law of Growth says that there is only one thing you truly have control over: yourself. If you want to make a positive mark on the world, don’t start with what you can do externally; start with what you can do internally. To change the world, start with changing yourself.

This doesn’t mean you have to become a different person. In fact, the opposite is true. The hardest part of growth often comes from removing everything that prevents you from connecting with the truest, most authentic you.

This also means that you may have to accept that you can’t change everything or everyone, even if you believe it would be in their highest good. Trust that if you focus on your own growth and your own path, you’ll illuminate the way for others. But it has to be their choice.

    The Law of Responsibility

The Law of Responsibility links closely to the Law of Humility (and, in fact, all the laws I’ve discussed above).

Can you take responsibility for your current life circumstances, good and bad?

The Law of Responsibility states that rather than looking for external reasons and excuses for why something might be wrong in your life, you must look internally. Because it doesn’t start out there; it starts in here. In me. In you. In all of us.

It’s important to truly evaluate your life from a place of non-judgmental, conscious awareness. What’s going right? What’s going wrong?

Instead of looking outward for reasons why something might be going right or wrong, look inward. Know that this isn’t about judging or criticizing yourself. (In fact, I encourage you not to judge, berate, or criticize yourself.) It’s about taking responsibility for the choices you make, whether that be an action you’ve chosen to take or an energy you’ve chosen to emit.

    The Law of Connection

The Law of Connection states that everything in the universe, and everything in your life, is connected: your past, present, and future.

No action or decision is insignificant because every action effects who you become. Your actions yesterday affect the person you are today, and your actions today affect the person you are tomorrow.

When I think of the Law of Connection, I like to think of the affirmation, “Every small step I take makes a big difference.”

I can use this website itself as an example. There are a lot of daily actions I take to maintain this website. There are also certain things I had to do only once or twice, like installing a certain plugin or uploading a picture for my author bio. I write and edit multiple blog posts a week and create dozens of Pinterest pins for my blog posts. I’ve changed the overall layout of the site several times, which is a task that can take a lot of time depending on the extent of my changes.

So is writing a blog post more important than installing a plugin? Is changing the layout more important than uploading an author bio picture?

According to the Law of Connection, no. Each step leads to the next step, and no step is more important than the other because they’re all connected. This is true for everything in our lives.

And this is true in terms of yourself, as well. You may think of some of your past days as being more important and consequential than others, but every single day you’ve experienced has created the person you are today. Everything is connected. Everything is important. Your past, present, and future are all intertwined and deeply connected to one another.

    The Law of Focus

The Law of Focus states that you should focus on one thing at a time, and if your focus is on spiritual values, you will not have space in your life to focus on lesser feelings such as greed, jealousy, and anger.

What are spiritual values? They’re feelings and beliefs stemmed in love, peace, compassion, trust, and kindness: positive thoughts and emotions that welcome more of these positive feelings into your world. Ultimately, you decide your highest spiritual values and what feels true and right for you.

When you focus on feelings that allow you to be spiritually aligned, you have no room in your mind or heart for negative energy that doesn’t serve your mind, body, or spirit.

The Law of Giving & Hospitality

What do you believe in? What do you want most for the world? Do you have a vision of a world that is filled with peace and love? Do you believe in selfless kindness and generosity? Do you believe in connection over division and compassion over judgment?

This law is essentially the practice what you preach law. The Law of Giving & Hospitality calls on you to demonstrate what you believe in and become the embodiment of your genuine desires for this world.

If you envision a world filled with peace and love, give peace and love to yourself and others.

If you believe in selfless kindness and generosity, be selflessly kind and generous to all.

If you want to see a world connected in compassion and love, give this love and compassion and become connected to all.

Let your actions reflect your deepest and truest beliefs. If you want to see change in the world, become the change by giving what you seek.

The Law of Here and Now

The only thing that truly exists is this moment right now. The past is gone, and the future is not here. True inner peace comes from embracing the present moment.

The Law of Here and Now states that true peace of mind comes from living in the present moment, and you cannot embrace the present moment if you’re always looking back into the past or ahead into the future. Reliving the past prevents you from engaging with your life just as it is right now. And when you’re constantly focusing on the old, you’re unable to create the new.

When you find yourself replaying events of the past or worrying about the future, gently bring yourself back to the present moment. Use all of your senses to discover the world that exists right now. You might have a grounding mantra that helps, such as, “In this moment, I have everything I need.”

    The Law of Change

Have you ever heard the phrase, “History repeats itself”? That concept is at the core of the Law of Change, which states that history will continue to repeat itself until you’ve learned the lessons you’re meant to learn and have taken actionable steps to change the pattern.

You might see this play out in all different parts of your life: relationships, career, and your own personal relationship with yourself. If you’re continually seeing the same cycles repeat themselves in your life, it’s worth stepping back and asking—what is the universe trying to teach me? Are there attachments, connections, beliefs, or old stories I’m not letting go of? Is there an intuitive knowing deep inside me that I keep ignoring?

Change can be scary sometimes, but when you embrace change and start on a new path, you open yourself to experiencing genuine joy, fulfillment, and growth.

The Law of Patience and Reward

The Law of Patience and Reward is rooted in the belief that consistency, patience, and continuing to show up day after day, even when you don’t see the rewards today, will bring true joy, peace, and fulfillment.

I think of this as the law of no overnight successes.

To help myself in moments when I begin to feel impatient, I think back to my marathon training program. When I signed up for my first marathon, I knew I wouldn’t be able to suddenly run 26.2 miles overnight. So I created a training program in which I ran 4 days a week with 3 rest days.

Each week, over the course of 14 weeks, I slightly increased my long runs and overall mileage by a mile or two. On the day of the marathon, I trusted that my consistency, effort, and patience in the process would pay off. And you know what? It did. Four hours and thirty-two minutes later, I crossed the finish line, my first full marathon complete.

Now, this can be a little different from other scenarios that require consistency and patience. While I had an exact date to work toward for my marathon, you might be working on a goal in which you have no idea when you’ll see the rewards of your effort. And that’s okay. Just know that showing up for yourself day after day and being consistent in your efforts is always worth it.

Meanwhile, don’t wait for all of your dreams to manifest in your reality before you allow yourself to experience true joy. Feel joyful now knowing that you are on the path, aligned with your purpose and passion, and exactly where you’re meant to be in this moment.

The Law of Significance and Inspiration

You matter. Your voice matters. Your presence matters. You were born with specific goals and talents that only you possess. Only you have lived your unique experiences. And that dream that’s in your heart? It’s there for a reason.

The Law of Significance and Inspiration states that every single one of us contributes to the greater whole. We all play a part in contributing to the highest good of the world.

And what you’re doing? It matters. When you put your heart into something and contribute your gifts and talents with wholehearted love, you are creating a ripple effect that you probably can’t even see.

You’re lifting up others and inspiring others to follow their hearts, too.

And the more positive energy and loving intentions you put into your contribution, the more you’re not only contributing to the highest good for all, but to yourself as well. You will get back all of this positive energy in ways you can’t even imagine.

So know that everything you do matters. Your purpose and your gift matter.

You matter. More than you know.

    New Moon Symbolism

Like the moon, we go through our own cycles and phases. Sometimes, we feel vibrant and energized, shining our light fully. Other times, we need to go inward and get in touch with our innermost selves for a little while.

The new moon offers an opportunity for just this: a chance to go within, refresh, let go, and start anew.

You might think of the new moon as a cosmic reset. During this time, you can check in with yourself. Are you aligned with your purpose? Are you holding onto anything you need to let go of? Are there any new habits or rituals you can start incorporating into your daily routine to support your mind, body, and soul? What is your heart telling you about your path?

The new moon offers a beautiful opportunity for any and all of these practices:

    • Setting intentions for who you want to be, what you want to manifest, and how you want to show up in your daily life
    • Connecting to your deepest dreams and desires
    • Releasing what no longer serves you to make space for new beginnings
    • Cleansing old and stagnant energy
    • Embracing your ability to co-create with the Universe
    • Honoring the light and love that flows to and through you in all moments

Below, you’ll find 10 profound new moon rituals for connecting to your inner self, letting go of what no longer serves you, and planting seeds for your dreams and desires to take root.

Every new moon, see if you can incorporate at least two or three of these rituals into your routine.

Use the magic of the new moon to create something truly beautiful in both your inner and outer worlds.

    New Moon Rituals

    Plant Seeds Of Intention

This is one of my personal favorite new moon rituals, as you can complete this practice either through visualization or by actually planting physical seeds where, in time, you can watch them grow.

In this ritual, you’ll be planting three seeds that represent the intentions you want to set for the next month. I usually complete this as a visualization meditation, but there’s also something special about planting three physical seeds and watching them grow and thrive over time (just like your intentions).

Take the first seed and imagine yourself gently planting it in the earth in front of you. (Or actually plant it in the soil.) See your intention manifesting in your reality, and feel the positive emotions associated with this dream coming true. Express gratitude to the Universe for supporting you in your dreams.

Repeat this with the second seed, planting another intention in the earth in front of you. Finally, repeat this process with the third seed.

Once all your intentions have been planted, release them to the Universe. Feel peace, love, and abundance filing every cell of your being. End this ritual by expressing more sincere gratitude

    Write A New Moon List

In a sacred space (or somewhere that allows you to truly connect with your inner self), take some time to consider your innermost dreams and desires. What is your heart telling you? What does your soul truly need?

Here are some topics you might want to include in your list. Consider your list to be a way of communicating with your highest self and the Universe. You might even read your list items aloud under the night sky.

    • Everything you want to manifest in the next month
    • Everything you’re releasing
    • What you’re grateful for
    • The primary feelings you want to embody (joy, peace, abundance, love, etc.)
    • Any other changes you want to make over the next month, such as starting a new morning routine or making more time for self-care.

    Journal Your Innermost Feelings

The new moon offers the perfect opportunity to get in touch with your highest self, and one of the most profound ways to do this is through journaling. Allow yourself time and space where you won’t be interrupted. Create a space where you feel safe and at peace, whether that’s in your sacred space or outside under the stars. Consider what energies you want to release and what you want to embrace more of over the next month.

Here are a few sentences you can include in your new moon journal entry:

    • “I am releasing . . .”
    • “I am setting the intention to . . .”
    • “I am manifesting . . .”
    • You can also ask yourself: “What does my soul need?”

    Take A Detox Bath

A detox bath allows you to detox your total self: mind, body, and soul. This bath is meant for spiritual and energetic cleansing. During this time, put away your phone or any other distractions. Focus solely on your own inner tranquility. Sink into relaxation and self-care. By embracing your inner peace, you release stagnant energy within and make space for new energy to come forth.

Here are some items you might use in this bath ritual:

    • Essential oils, especially ones that promote relaxation, such as lavender, bergamot, and clary sage
    • Epsom salt
    • Himalayan pink salt
    • Candles
    • Dried flower petals
    • Crystals

    Cleanse Your Space

Because a new moon represents new beginnings, this is an ideal time to cleanse your space – both physically and energetically.

Take some time to physically declutter the spaces you spend the most time in. As you go through your items, ask yourself, “Does this represent the person I used to be or the person I want to become?” Get rid of anything that doesn’t align with the person you’re becoming.

You can also cleanse the energy of the spaces you spend the most time in by burning incense or lighting candles in the room. If possible, open the window so any old, stagnant energy in the room can be released.

    Do A Candle Manifestation Ritual

Candles can be a profound addition to your new moon ritual, as they promote inner peace, help you to release negative energy, and open your heart and mind to receiving.

It’s best to do this ritual with a new candle (or one that is specifically used only for this purpose).

Once you light your candle, start visualizing your dreams and desires coming true. What does your life look like when you have everything you desire? How do you feel? See and feel everything as if it’s happening in this very moment.

Then, speak your intention aloud to the Universe. Once you’re done, express sincere gratitude and let go, trusting that everything is working out for your highest good.

    Meditate Under The Night Sky

This one is exactly as it sounds: connect with the energy of the new moon by going outside to meditate. You might do a visualization meditation, such as planting your three seeds of intention. You could also do a walking meditation by taking a nice, moonlight stroll. Your meditation can also be rooted in affirmations for releasing what no longer serves you and embracing new beginnings.

Your meditation should center around whatever your soul needs most in the moment. If you need to release something that’s been weighing you down, visualize yourself letting go of these feelings, experiences, people, or things.

If you want to manifest your desires, let your meditation be about visualizing your dreams and setting intentions.

And if you’re not sure what you need, enter your meditation with the intention of clearing your mind and seeing what comes to you. You might ask the Universe for gentle guidance before you start.

    Communicate With Your Guides

This can be especially helpful for you if you’re not quite sure what intentions you want to set for this lunar cycle.

Communicate with your highest self, your guides, or with the Universe itself. (This can be done through meditation or journaling.) Ask for clear, gentle, loving guidance.

What should you let go of? What should you embrace more of? Where should you focus your energy? See what answers arise, but have patience if the answers don’t come right away. Your highest self may know the path, or you may need to step back and allow the Universe to communicate messages through signs and synchronicities.

Over the next few days, keep an open heart and an open mind to whatever messages come through.

    Express Gratitude

Gratitude can be incorporated into all of the practices on this list, and it can also be the center of its own special ritual. Expressing gratitude is a beautiful way to honor the abundance of all that you have in your life.

You can also express appreciation for all that’s on its way to you right now: your dreams, desires, and manifestations. In your sacred space, write down a list of all that you’re grateful for in your life – for what is, what has been, and what’s coming.

I’ve found it to be a deeply profound practice to also express gratitude for anything you’re releasing. Maybe these thoughts, beliefs, things, or experiences don’t serve who you are today, but they helped you to grow. Maybe the presence of what you don’t want has taught you what you do want. Even your fears can be teachers. Fears often exist as a way to protect yourself. You can thank your fears for protecting you and let them know you no longer require their service.

When you can step back and view your life through the lens of appreciation, you invite more beautiful people, experiences, opportunities, and feelings to enter your world.

    Let Go

Let go has a couple different meanings here, and depending on where you are on your path, you may need one or both to help you move forward.

First, the new moon offers you the chance to let go of anything that no longer serves and supports your mind, body, and spirit. Let go of limiting beliefs that are weighing you down. Let go of fears that are keeping you small. Let go of the stories you’re telling yourself about why something can’t be done.

And, if necessary, let go of anything in your physical life that’s no longer meant to be a part of the chapter you’re in right now: people, things, and experiences.

Letting go also means turning over your intentions and desires to the Universe. If you’ve spoken your innermost dreams to the Universe, allow yourself to let go of control and trust that you are being taken care of and supported in all moments.

Trust that the Universe is working behind the scenes to make sure everything works out better than you can imagine.

Trust it all to unfold beautifully, exactly as it’s meant to.

Don’t focus on the absence of your desires in this moment; focus on the abundance of all that you have and all that’s on its way to you.

Because when you focus on your abundance, your abundance grows.
