    Your Self-Love Journey

Cultivating deep and profound self-love is a journey that never really has a beginning or an end.

And it certainly isn’t a linear path, either.

There may be days, weeks, even months when you feel really positive and accepting of yourself–when you know, undoubtedly, that you love yourself deeply. That you’re worthy, deserving, and more than enough. That there’s no one else you’d rather be.

And then, one day, something happens. Maybe someone says something negative that sticks with you. Or maybe it’s something you say to yourself. Maybe it’s just stress and anxiety creeping up on you.

Whatever it is, during these times, you may be a little harder on yourself. You might wish you could change certain aspects of yourself. You might have a hard time accepting who you are.

And I want you to know, it’s okay.

It’s okay to not always be your highest, best self. It’s okay to have days, weeks, even months when you struggle to work through the hard stuff.

What I hope is that through these times, you’ll remember this:

You are worthy of grace and self-compassion–both from others and especially from yourself.

One of my favorite practices when I’m going through a difficult time is journaling. For me, the simple act of writing something down allows me to get all that extra weight I’m carrying out of my body and onto the paper. And when I step away from my journal, I always feel a little lighter.

Workbooks are also another option that work just as well. I love workbooks because they always gently nudge me toward thoughts and emotions I didn’t even realize I was experiencing. They help me to view situations from a different perspective, and they give me the tools I need to aid my own self-discovery and personal growth.

Below, you’ll find eight of the best self-love workbooks to help you cultivate self-love, self-respect, and self-acceptance. All of these workbooks offer profound guidance, exercises, and reflection prompts to help you connect with your innermost self. And none of these workbooks are a one-time thing. Even after you’ve completed a workbook, you can continue to come back to it again and again to guide your journey.

    About Your Free Affirmation Wallpaper

Below, you’ll find 35 beautiful images for free positive affirmation wallpaper specifically designed for your phone’s lock screen. Each image includes a unique design and uplifting affirmation meant to level up your mindset and remind you of your inherent and unconditional worthiness.

Before you choose the affirmation wallpaper that works best for you, here are a few notes:

    • If you’re saving this wallpaper to your phone, just hold down the image and save to your photo gallery. Easy peasy!
    • I know how annoying it is to find a beautiful design to use for your phone’s wallpaper . . . only for a giant website logo or site address to be plastered in the middle of it. Because of that, I chose not to include my name or website address on these designs. I just ask that you use these for personal use only, and if you do share on social media, please tag and/or link back to this page.
    • When you set this wallpaper to be the lock screen on your phone, make sure to turn the perspective zoom off so the whole image will show on the screen.
    • Do you have a vision board album on your phone? If so, you can also save these quotes to your digital vision board. (Click here for more vision board affirmations and here for empowering vision board quotes.)
    • Finally, I usually compress images before uploading them on my site, but I didn’t want to lower the quality of these images. Because of that, you may need to wait just a couple extra seconds for the images to fully load. (But I promise, it’s worth it!)

And that’s it! I hope the positive affirmation wallpaper below brings you endless peace, joy, and love within. (And more than anything, I hope these designs remind you that you are always, always worthy.)

40 Positive Affirmations for Overcoming Challenges

In this post, discover 40 positive affirmations for overcoming challenges, facing adversity, and getting through hard times with dignity and grace. Use these affirmations to guide you in your journey and help you to find your inner courage during all seasons of your life.

    Facing Challenges and Adversity

I use positive affirmations often throughout my day, but I’ve found that the times I need them the most is when I’m facing a challenge or difficult situation. However, in order for a positive affirmation to truly help me with the challenge I’m facing, I can’t just say something positive; I have to truly feel it in my bones.

    What does this mean?

Let’s say you wake up knowing that today’s going to be a particularly difficult day. You look at yourself in the mirror, take a deep breath, and say, “I have all the tools I need to handle anything that comes my way today.”

These words alone won’t help you – not if you don’t truly believe them.

And beyond that, you have to live them as well.

That means that when you’re dealing with obstacles and challenges, instead of giving in to the negative feelings that weigh down on you, you have to go back to your empowering words. Repeat them. Feel them. Live them.

I have all the tools I need to handle anything that comes my way today.

I am strong, capable, and competent.

    I’ve got this.

    But it doesn’t stop here.

Because it isn’t really just about “handling” or “getting through” obstacles and roadblocks.

It’s about knowing in your heart that these hard times are serving some kind of purpose. It’s about being willing to receive the lessons that the difficult moments can teach you. It’s about discovering the beauty that can be found in life’s messy moments.

And it’s also about trusting that if things aren’t working out the way you want them to, it’s often because something better is coming.

To be clear, this doesn’t mean you should engage in toxic positivity. You don’t have to force yourself to pretend that the hardships don’t hurt.

One of the most profound experiences I’ve encountered over the last several years was when I was going through a rough patch, and I found myself crying daily, feeling sad and lost and uncertain about my future.

I allowed myself to feel all of that pain, but even in the sadness, I still had deep trust that everything would work out for me. I knew in my heart that I would become stronger for this experience. I gave myself permission to explore the depths of my emotions fully while still knowing that the universe would support me and have my back no matter what.

After walking through that experience with faith and trust, I became a little less afraid of future challenges and roadblocks. I knew that in some way, every experience I encountered was a gift, no matter how heavy the world often felt.

I believe we’re all capable of handling so much more than we realize. You are so much stronger and braver and more powerful than you know. You have the ability to face any obstacle, and you also have the ability to step back and discover how your greatest challenges can often be your greatest gifts.

Below are 40 positive affirmations for overcoming challenges, facing adversity, and walking through hard times with dignity and grace. I hope these affirmations remind you that you are strong, capable, and resilient, and that you are capable of meeting all challenges with faith, courage, and undeniable resilience.

What is the Solar Plexus Chakra?

Located above your navel, in the center of your torso (you might also refer to it as the pit of your stomach), the solar plexus chakra is your body’s energy center for confidence, positivity, motivation, and drive. I also like to think of it as the chakra that’s associated with all the self words: self-esteem, self-respect, self-image, and self-worth.

When your solar plexus chakra is balanced and aligned, your overall self-image is high. You feel confident in the steps you’re taking, and you wholeheartedly believe in yourself and your ability to succeed.

A balanced solar plexus chakra is also associated with being a good team player. You’re collaborative, confident in your decision making, and have a high sense of integrity.

Blockages and imbalances to the solar plexus chakra are associated with low self-esteem, lack of ambition, and a sense of worthlessness. If the solar plexus chakra is overactive, you may also experience arrogance, hunger for power, and a superiority complex.

Positive affirmations are a powerful way to restore balance to any of your body’s energy centers. Below, you’ll find 35 powerful solar plexus chakra affirmations to activate, balance, and heal your energy center for confidence, positivity, and self-esteem.

And to go even deeper into balancing your solar plexus chakra, I’ve also put together 30 journal prompts to open and heal your solar plexus chakra. You’ll also get these journal prompts, along with the affirmations below, if you sign up for the free printable at the bottom of this post.

    Discovering Affirmations

In 2014, my introduction to affirmations came in the form of body positive affirmations.

I had found a list of 100 body positive affirmations somewhere online and decided to copy it and email it to myself. While I would love to tell you that this discovery propelled me into a journey of total and complete self-love, I’m pretty sure that email stayed at the bottom of my inbox for the next couple years, untouched and ignored.

While I wanted to accept my body completely, I had a hard time accepting myself if I didn’t fit into a perfect box. I really only wanted to love my body on the condition that I could change it and mold it into something that society would deem beautiful.

The following years were filled with hardship and heartbreak as I battled with the girl I saw in the mirror, but I wouldn’t trade those years for anything as they allowed me to learn and grow into the confident, self-loving woman I am now.

Back then, I also had no idea how to truly use affirmations. I saw them as nice and uplifting words but didn’t understand their inherent power. I wasn’t sure how to get the words on the screen to resonate inside me.

And if you’re in that place, too, that’s okay. I’ve included some tips below to help you with using body positive affirmations so that they truly resonate with you.

I recommend using the body-positive affirmations in this post in tandem with other types of affirmations, like these affirmations for self-love and these ones for self-confidence. I find that body positive affirmations can be most powerful when used with other types of affirmations that don’t just focus on your body but on all parts of you: your heart, your spirit, your kindness, and your inherent and undeniable worthiness.

How to Use Body Positive Affirmations

While the notes I’m about to give are certainly true for all types of affirmations, I want to emphasize them especially for body positive affirmations because this can be a sensitive subject for many.

You may come to an affirmation in the list below that just feels off. What do I mean by that? Here’s an example:

Imagine that you’re reading the affirmation, “My body is truly beautiful.” You recite it, trying to feel the positive emotions associated with these words, but in the back of your mind, you hear a little voice that says, yeah right.

While you definitely want to be able to say this affirmation with confidence, you’re still on a path of healing your body insecurities, and you’re not quite yet at a place where you can assert that your body is truly beautiful.

    And that’s okay.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with you if you experience discomfort with any of the affirmations below (or any affirmations at all, for that matter).

First, if you experience this, release any self-judgment or self-criticism over your discomfort. Know that it’s okay to be exactly where you are in your healing journey. Have compassion for where you currently are, and remember that you don’t have to race to the finish line all at once.

You have the right to take this one step at a time, at your own pace.

When I discover an affirmation that I don’t feel completely comfortable with, I like to employ what I call the Ladder Method. In this method, I take a step back from the original affirmation and alter it in a way that feels more comfortable for me.

For instance, I might use the phrases I am open to . . . or I am willing to . . . in my newly altered affirmation.

Let’s try this with the affirmation I used above: My body is truly beautiful.

How can I alter this in a way that will feel more comfortable for me? I could say, I am open to seeing all the ways in which my body is truly beautiful. Or, I am willing to believe that my body is truly beautiful.

You might use your altered affirmation for a few weeks before taking the next step closer to the original affirmation. Your next step might be something like this: Even though I don’t always see it, I know in my heart that my body is truly beautiful.

Feel empowered to modify any of the affirmations below so that they’ll feel more comfortable for you. It’s also completely okay to skip an affirmation and choose to solely focus on the ones that feel good to you. In time, you might decide to come back to the list and see if any of the other affirmations begin to resonate a little more.

Remember: take this at your own pace, and show yourself unconditional kindness and compassion, no matter what.

If you’ve ever set out to start a consistent exercise routine, you know that the hardest part of the workout often isn’t physical; it’s your own mental barriers that can hold you back from reaching the success you’re capable of achieving.

I’ve run one full marathon and four half marathons. I’ve gone on hikes that required me to climb thousands of feet of elevation. I’ve lifted weights I didn’t think I could lift, and I’ve stretched and moved my body in ways I didn’t think was possible.

And while clearly, my body played an integral role in achieving these feats, I needed more than just my body to get me through the longest miles and toughest climbs; I needed that voice in my mind repeating over and over again, yes I can.

On the flip side, I’ve also abandoned runs a mile or two in because my brain just couldn’t get into it, even when I felt rested and strong. And I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stopped in the middle of a set or skipped stretching, just because I didn’t feel like it.

Know that I’m not judging myself for these moments, because they were all powerful learning experiences. I know that consistency always beats perfection, so it’s okay to be imperfect sometimes as long as I keep growing and showing up for myself as best as I can.

Mindset is key in all that we do, including working out. If I tell myself that I can’t run one more mile, then that becomes my truth, whether or not my body was actually capable of going farther.

I’ve found that reciting positive affirmations and empowering mantras to myself has been key in harnessing the power of my mindset when I work out. However, what I say to myself before my workout is different than what I say during my workout, and both are different from what I say after my workout.

So I’ve divided the affirmations below into pre-workout, during workout, and post-workout affirmations. The pre-workout affirmations are designed to empower you to show up and choose to exercise from a place of self-love and self-respect. The post-workout affirmations are to help you affirm that you absolutely did enough, no matter what, and also to gently remind you to prioritize rest and recovery.

You’ll notice that the affirmations that are designed for you to recite during your workout are a little shorter, and that’s because I’ve found that when I’m exercising, I tend be more motivated by short and punchy phrases than long sentences. They’re a lot easier to remember, too!

I encourage you to use these positive workout affirmations from a place of total love for yourself, knowing you are strong, powerful, and more than enough.

And be sure to stick around after the affirmations to discover seven powerful tips for overcoming “gymtimidation” and hitting the gym with confidence!

    A Quick Note

Please know that the words above and the affirmations below are not meant to guilt you into working out, ESPECIALLY if your body is tired and needs rest and recovery time. Taking care of your body also means taking days off, getting enough sleep, and sometimes replacing your difficult workout with more gentle movement that feels good to you. Honor your body by listening to it and giving it the care it needs. If you’ve already carved out time to workout but know that you need to rest, I wholeheartedly recommend using the time to do a loving self-care practice that will realign the energy of your mind, body, and spirit.

7 Ways To Boost Your Confidence At The Gym

Going to the gym can be a vulnerable experience. You might look around and think everyone else knows exactly what they’re doing, while you’re not even sure where to start. Maybe you even worry that other gym-goers are judging you.

This feeling of fear and anxiety about working out in front of others has been termed “gymtimidation.” If you struggle with this anxiety, you’re not alone. Many of the people you see confidently taking up space in the gym suffered from gymtimidation at one point, and maybe they still do, even if they don’t show it.

There are several ways to overcome your fears and hit the gym with confidence, which we’ll explore below.

    1. Stick To A Routine

Rather than going to the gym every once in a while, you’ll want to build trips to the gym into your daily routine. Stick to a schedule that works for you and visit the gym consistently in order to make exercise a healthy habit.

    1. Focus On Yourself

Oftentimes, anxiety at the gym results from worries about whether other people are judging you. However, it’s important to remember that the people around you are usually 100% focused on their own workouts. Let the fear of judgment melt away and concentrate on your own goals.

    1. Get Advice

If you don’t know how to perform a certain exercise or use a particular machine, ask a floor manager or a fitness trainer for advice. They’ll be able to give you quick guidance that will help you feel prepared and confident in your gym knowledge.

    1. Build Strength At Home

It can sometimes be easier to hit the gym when you’ve already learned the basics and built up strength. Try watching exercise tutorials at home and perfecting your form in the mirror. That way, you’ll feel more ready to hit the gym.

    1. Listen To Music

According to Scientific American, “Music distracts people from pain and fatigue” and “elevates mood.” Creating an empowering workout playlist can help you feel confident and stay focused when exercising at the gym. You can either choose from the variety of pre-made workout playlists available online or customize your own.

    1. Bring A Friend

Getting a workout buddy can make trips to the gym feel a lot less intimidating. This is because buddying up gives you a friendly face in an otherwise new and potentially intimidating environment. Your gym buddy can also help you stay accountable and crush your fitness goals.

    1. Find A Gym That Suits You

Make sure the gym you pick is one you genuinely enjoy. Especially if you’re new to the gym scene, you’ll want to choose a place with a supportive culture and plenty of equipment for a range of experience levels.

Joining a gym can be scary. However, these tips should help you build the confidence you need to meet your fitness goals.

Looking for more inspiration to combat gym anxiety? Take a look at the infographic below for a summary of these tips and some additional information on how to crush gymtimidation.

Creating A Success Mindset For Interviews

How often have you entered a job interview actually feeling truly confident when you walked into the room? Even if you’ve done as much preparation as humanly possible, you likely still have lingering doubts weighing heavily on your mind.

    • What if they ask something I didn’t prepare for?
    • What if I forget to mention something important?
    • What if I completely blank when they ask a question?
    • What if they don’t like my outfit?
    • What if . . .

The what if scenarios are truly endless. And the truth is, some of them may happen. Maybe they’ll ask you a question you weren’t expecting. Maybe you’ll ramble on for a couple minutes before finally getting to the point of what you wanted to say.

And you know what? That’s okay. The best thing you can do before an interview is prepare as best as you know how. And the worst thing?

Worrying about things you can’t control, making up scenarios in your mind that will probably never happen, and allowing your energy to be drained by negativity.

You have the power to control your mindset, just like you get to control your thoughts and emotions. Nobody else. You. So before you walk into an interview, instead of worrying about all the things that you can’t control, focus on what you can control:

    • Your preparation
    • Your attitude
    • Your self-belief
    • Your breathing
    • Your thoughts
    • Your emotions
    • Your energy

Below, you’ll find 50 positive affirmations for job interviews. These affirmations are designed to help you cultivate a mindset of confidence, positivity, and self-trust. Use these affirmations throughout the days leading up to a job interview to remind yourself that you have what it takes. You are competent. You are capable. You are worthy. You are enough.

Allow yourself to focus on what you can control, let go of what you cannot, and trust that you’re always headed in the right direction, no matter what.

    What is Social Anxiety?

My social anxiety started in elementary school, before I knew what anxiety was or why I felt these uncomfortable feelings within. All I knew was that I felt different from other kids.

While other kids cheered for lunch and recess, those were my two least favorite parts of the school day.

    Why?

Because I couldn’t hide behind schoolwork or a book. I had to actually be present with the other kids; I had to be seen.

    And this absolutely terrified me.

Have you ever experienced these kinds of feelings?

Social anxiety is an extreme fear of social situations. You might experience a fear of being judged by others or worry that you’ll be humiliated. You may be afraid of saying the wrong thing, or that you won’t know what to say at all. This fear can often be all-consuming, leading you to feel anxious for days leading up to a social event.

One of your greatest tools when you experience social anxiety is self-compassion.

Self-compassion allows you to see your anxiety in a loving light. Instead of criticizing yourself for having these thoughts and feelings, you’re able to send love to your anxiety. Self-compassion is understanding that nothing about you is wrong; nothing about you is a mistake.

Even when you experience fear and anxiety, you are still worthy, whole, and complete.

Below are 50 calming affirmations for social anxiety. Use these affirmations before and during a social event to help you remain grounded, centered, stable, and secure. These affirmations are meant to give you courage and strength as you walk into a social situation, knowing you are courageous, strong, and more than enough.

At the bottom of this post, I’ve linked to a few resources for anyone experiencing chronic, overwhelming social anxiety.

And here are a few more posts filled with tools to help you with anxiety:

    Understanding Your Insecurities

Body insecurities. Relationship insecurities. Career insecurities. Insecurities about how you’re perceived in social situations. Insecurities about your own talents and abilities.

These are just a few of the insecurities you may experience in your daily life.

Overcoming your insecurities isn’t about suppressing them or pretending they don’t exist. Rather, it’s about going within and gently probing your insecurities and self-doubt with loving awareness. Where do these insecurities stem from? What past experiences led you to having these thoughts and feelings?

And the greatest question of all: are they true?

Because that’s your greatest weapon of all in the fight against your insecurities: the ability to recognize that not all of your thoughts and fears about yourself are true.

You may never get rid of insecure thoughts completely, but you have the ability to recognize when you’re having such a thought and ask yourself, “Is it true?”

For instance, you might have some insecurities about how you’ll be perceived in an upcoming social situation. Or you might have a job review coming up, and you worry that your boss might think you’re not performing up to standard. But when you have those thoughts, you can step back and ask if that’s really true. You know you’ve been going above and beyond. You know you’ve exceeded every task you’ve been given. And you know that you have shown up and proven yourself, time and time again.

That’s when you can take a step back and say, “I recognize this thought as a product of self-doubt and insecurities, but I choose to lovingly release it, because I know it isn’t true.”

Below, you’ll find 40 positive affirmations for insecurity and self-doubt. Some affirmations are universal, while others address specific types of insecurities, such as body insecurities.

For more empowering affirmations to lift you up and guide you when you’re feeling the weight of your insecurities bearing down on you, I’ve added links to additional affirmations below.

And for tips on how to use affirmations to get the most out of them, I encourage you to check out my post, How to Use Affirmations (So They Actually Work).

    Your Worthiness as a Writer

I’ve been writing since I was seven years old, and and I’ve gone through all of the ups and downs that many writers have experienced, I’ve had months during which writing was the only thing I wanted to do in my spare time, and I’ve gone months without writing a single word. I’ve written words that I’ve felt unbelievably confident in, and I’ve gone through spells where nothing I write is ever good enough (in my head). I’ve felt the highs of success and the lows of rejection and seeming failure.

But whenever I begin to feel like maybe I’m just not meant to be a writer, I go back to that original moment when I was seven years old: that deep, inner knowing that this is what I’m meant to do when I grow up. That knowing is still there, and even now, I still feel like I’m growing up. I’m still exploring my voice and making new discoveries as a writer each and every day.

I didn’t always feel worthy, but I know now, I have always been worthy and always will be worthy of being a writer.

And if nothing else, that’s what I want you to know, too: you are worthy. You are enough. You have what it takes. The creativity, inspiration, and divine flow of the Universe are available to you at all times. Some days, you just have to stop chasing inspiration outside of yourself, step back, and go within. Usually, when you slow down for a bit and quiet your mind, everything you’ve been looking for will come find you. (At least, that’s how it always works for me.)

You don’t need permission to step out into the world. You just need to know that you are worthy of every single dream that’s been put in your heart. All it takes is one tiny moment of courage to take that first step. Then, when you step back and stop trying to control the narrative, you’ll see how the Universe is giving you everything you need to succeed. It will lead you down the right path, one courageous step at a time.

You have an incredible gift to offer this world. And the only permission you need to step off the sidelines into the world is your own. And you are worthy. Unconditionally. Infinitely. Always.
