    What Are Affirmations?

Chances are, even if you’ve never practiced using positive affirmations, you’ve encountered them in some form of media – maybe when you were scrolling through your Instagram or Pinterest feeds or reading a book dedicated to self-development and personal growth.

The word “affirmation” gets used frequently in popular media, so it’s important to take a moment to break it down and truly understand what it means.

So then – what exactly is an affirmation?

An affirmation is any type of declarative statement that you say or think and are essentially affirming to be true.

So if you state, “This traffic is making me miserable,” or “This person is driving me crazy,” those are declarations that you’re affirming to be true, even if you don’t actually want to be miserable or crazy.

Most of the time, though, when we talk about affirmations, we’re referring to positive affirmations.

A positive affirmation is a positive affirming statement that’s designed to boost your self-belief and support your overall well-being: mind, body, and soul.

Affirmations can be used proactively or reactively. You might have a list of positive affirmations that you repeat while you get ready in the morning to set the foundation for a good day.

You might also use affirmations when you’re starting to feel negative and pessimistic in order to let go of your heavy energy and realign with what matters most to you.

However you use them, affirmations can be a powerful tool in helping you to love, embrace, and accept yourself exactly as you are right now.

    Why Use Affirmations?

You know how eating a sugary treat lights up the reward circuits in your brain? Well, using positive affirmations activates these circuits, too, which can ultimately help in lessening pain and keeping your cool when things go wrong.

Using positive affirmations can also decrease stress. Stress has been known to increase one’s likelihood of depression and can result in digestive issues and sleep problems, among other long-term side effects.

Furthermore, the use of affirmations can help to increase your problem-solving abilities when under pressure.

Personally, I use empowering affirmations because they make me feel good. They’ve also been a way for me to take back my story and become the conscious creator of my own life.

For years, my brain’s default setting was pointed toward negativity when it came to how I viewed myself. It wasn’t that I inherently disliked myself; it’s just that I tended to believe the worst rather than the best.

Whenever I entered a room full of people, I assumed they would all immediately shun me. I told myself the story that I was never good enough. Never pretty enough. Never outgoing enough. Instead of focusing on the positive, my mind amplified the negative (and often believed things that weren’t even true).

I’ve known about affirmations for years, but I’d never actually opened myself up to accepting them into my life until I began meditating regularly. Actually, the oldest email in my inbox is from October 15, 2014, and it’s called, “Body Affirmations.” It’s a list of 100 affirmations that I’d copied from an article I’d found online and emailed to myself.

Do you know how many times in the following two or three years I opened up that email?

    Zero.

Despite this, every time I went to clean out my inbox, I’d see that one email sitting there at the bottom and think, “Maybe I’ll want it one day.” I think I knew deep down that I wanted to carry these affirmations with me in my life, but my brain hadn’t quite caught up to my heart yet. And that’s okay. Everything unfolds exactly as it’s supposed to, and I’m grateful for my former self for holding onto these empowering words, even though she wasn’t quite ready for them yet.

These days, I don’t just accept affirmations into my life; I embrace them wholeheartedly.

As I mentioned above, they’ve allowed me to take back my story. I now create my life through the thoughts I consciously choose to magnify and give a voice to.

And because affirmations have played such a positive and important role in my journey, I want to share them with as many people as I can reach so that you can also begin to own your story and create the life that feels good to you.

    Which Affirmations Should I Use?

The key with affirmations is that you want to find the ones that resonate with you and that you can truly believe. If you don’t believe the affirmation, then you may end up feeling worse about yourself (because subconsciously, your inner bully is saying a big fat, “Yeah right!”). We don’t want that!

If you want to believe an affirmation but find yourself feeling blocked from truly getting there, don’t stress. View your journey like you’re climbing a ladder, and with each rung, you’re steadily getting to that feel-good place you desire.

For instance, if body love is your goal, you may not really believe yourself if you try to affirm, “I love everything about my body.” Instead, start with, “I am open to loving my body and seeing it for all of its beauty.”

You might also be okay with saying, “My body is deserving of love.” You could also find specific areas of your body that you do really like, such as your smile. Or you can focus on all the ways your body shows up for you, even emphasizing something as seemingly simple as the fact that it keeps you alive.

Find the words that allow you to really feel good, and keep your focus on the positive emotions associated with these empowering words as you climb up that ladder.

With any of the affirmations below, if it doesn’t feel right, feel free to modify it so that it feels good for you. Focus on the ones that resonate with you the most. You will always know whether something is right for you by the way it feels.

    Spiritual Growth

Growing up, I never would’ve considered myself a spiritual person.

I think I always mostly believed in a higher power, but I always considered this higher power to exist outside of myself. To be completely honest, I often imagined this higher power to be this enormous being who was watching me from the sky, judging and criticizing my every thought and action.

I believed this higher power had extraordinary expectations for me to be perfect, and I was already so hard on myself all the time – bearing the weight of all those expectations felt like carrying a mountain on my shoulders. In my mind, no matter what I did, it’d never be enough.

So it became much easier for me to pretend this higher being didn’t exist at all.

It was just me and myself, I decided. I’d have to figure things out on my own. And that was okay. I didn’t need anyone else. I remember when I was younger, I once asked my mom if she thought I was a leader or a follower.

“Neither,” she responded. “You don’t feel the need to lead, but you don’t follow either. You’re just your own person.”

I loved this identity. My own person. Even though I don’t think it was what she meant, I took it to mean that I didn’t need other people at all. Even when things were difficult, I could always make it on my own.

It took many years of lessons and hardship to realize that trying to be a solely independent person who never relied on anyone else for anything wasn’t really the path I wanted to be on. That I truly and deeply loved people. That I needed them.

And that I needed something greater than me to believe in. That I needed a higher power: God, the Universe, Source, Love, All That Is – whatever name feels best to you.

My life changed in the most extraordinary ways when I released my grip on the reins and surrendered control to the Universe. When I began to lean into divine flow. When I trusted the pull of my heart guiding me forward, even when it didn’t make sense.

And this relationship is still growing. Still expanding. It transforms every day. The more I surrender, let go, and trust, the more miraculous my life becomes. I was so worried about control for so long, yet it was releasing this control that brought me the true peace I’d been searching for my entire life.

Below, you’ll find 30 journal prompts for spiritual growth to help you on your own spiritual journey. These questions focus both on your relationship with your true self as well as your relationship with a higher power. You can also download your copy of these free printable journal prompts at the bottom of this post.

Before you begin responding to any of these journal prompts, I want you to make a promise to yourself to be kind and compassionate with yourself no matter what comes up. Allow yourself the grace of imperfection. Embrace your past, as every experience you’ve encountered has brought you here today.

And also, what I believed when I was little? About a higher power sitting in the sky watching and criticizing your every move? It isn’t true. We all have different, unique relationships with the Universe, but for all of us, this is true:

The Universe has never criticized or condemned you. The Universe has never judged you for your thoughts or actions. The Universe is love. The Universe knows only love. And the Universe only feels perfect, unconditional love for you.

    What Is Astrology?

Astrology is the study of how distant objects in the cosmos (such as the sun and the moon) can influence our human lives, including how they shape our personalities and impact our behaviors.

In essence, it’s the study of the relationship between the cosmos and the earth – or how cosmic events can affect and influence earthly objects and events.

The sun, moon, and each planet have an important role to play in astrology. And by understanding the role they play in your own life, you can begin putting the pieces together of your own identity, sense of self, life focus, and more.

Of course, this is just a very general, basic definition, and to expand your knowledge, it’s important to look to the experts for a deeper understanding. Below, I’ve collected eight of the best astrology books for beginners and intermediate astrologers alike. These books offer profound insight into your birth chart and your own relationship to wealth, career, love, and more.

I’ve also offered some details about each book, including which are best for beginners and which are better for more experienced astrologers, so you can find the astrology book that best suits your needs.

This is a great book for beginners looking to dive in and expand their knowledge of astrology.

The first thing you’ll notice about Juliana McCarthy’s The Stars Within You is its gorgeous illustrations (done by Alejandro Cardenas). Once you start exploring the pages deeper, you’ll find a profound roadmap to discovering the inner you. This book is a great resource for learning how to read your own birth chart, in turn deepening your self-awareness and providing you with the missing link to a life of true fulfillment.

Tarot and Astrology: Enhance Your Readings With the Wisdom of the Zodiac

I love Corrine Keller’s Tarot and Astrology because it offers a different perspective to the standard astrology book. But if you’re interested in learning about the link between the worlds of tarot and astrology, you won’t be disappointed with this book. Llewellyn’s Complete Book of Astrology: The Easy Way to Learn Astrology

Despite its title, Llewellyn’s Complete Book of Astrology is actually best suited for someone who already has a fundamental grasp of the basics and is looking to deepen their understanding of astrology. Author and astrologer Kris Brandt provides all the essentials of astrology while focusing on three essential areas of your life: love, career, and money. This is a super detailed guidebook (you might think of it kind of like a college textbook) that provides you with practical techniques for improving all aspects of your life.

Astrology: Using the Wisdom of the Stars in Your Everyday Life

Astrology: Using the Wisdom of the Stars in Your Everyday Life is a fun, colorful, reference-style book that offers detailed information without ever feeling overwhelming. It’s beautiful, well-organized, concise, and offers great information for beginners who are curious to learn more about the world of astrology.

    My First Zodiac Book

Okay, so clearly this one isn’t for adults, but I wanted to add this one to the list for any astrologers or aspiring astrologers who have little ones in their lives. My First Zodiac Book, written by Nicole Sagesse and illustrated by Jana Walther, is an adorable and beautifully illustrated intro to astrology for kids. It offers an introduction to the zodiac signs, planets, and elements as well as new vocabulary words and beautiful illustrations to delight children and adults alike.

The Astrology of You and Me: How to Understand and Improve Every Relationship in Your Life

Gary Goldschneider’s The Astrology of You and Me offers a detailed look into how each sign of the zodiac acts in different relationships in their lives. Specifically, it hones in on your relationships in the areas of work, love, and friends and family. Not only how will you gain deeper insight into how you act in various relationships in your life, but it will also help you to better understand your friends, coworkers, and family members (as long as you know their sun sign). This one’s a great option if you’re looking for something a little different than the typical astrology guidebook.

    Your Highest Self

Take a moment to pause. Breathe deeply. Ground yourself in this present moment.

Now ask yourself: who am I?

Start to paint a picture of yourself in your mind’s eye. See yourself, exactly as you are in this moment right now.

Now, slowly begin to shed the layers of anything you’re carrying that doesn’t actually belong to you.

Remove your fears. Remove the daily stress and worries you carry. Remove the pain you’ve suffered as a result of external experiences. Remove everything that’s weighed you down, kept you small, and made you believe that you’re somehow lesser than you truly are.

The person you see when you remove the layers of pain, shame, stress, fear, worry, distrust, and suffering is your highest, most authentic self.

    Who Is Your Higher Self?

Hold this vision of your higher self in your mind’s eye for a little longer. See this version of you stepping into your daily life. How does your higher self look? How do they talk to other people? How do they interact with the world? Do they choose faith over fear? Do they believe they are worthy and deserving of manifesting their dreams? Do they offer love willingly? And do they receive love with an open heart?

Your higher self is your essential self. At the core of your essential self is the following:

    • The essential self is untouched by external circumstances. No matter what happens around you, this deepest part of you is unchanged because it is the very essence of who you are.
    • This part of you exists beyond your body and physical appearance.
    • This deepest part of you is what you might refer to as your soul. It is eternal, measureless, and infinite.
    • Nothing outside of yourself can shake or disrupt your essential self. This part of you is free from fears, worries, and limiting beliefs.

If you stripped everything else away, this part of you would remain: the real and true you.

Now, here’s what a lot of us get wrong when it comes to our higher selves: we mistakenly believe that the highest self is something we must become. We strive to be better. To be someone worthy of the Universe’s infinite love. To become more than we believe ourselves to be.

But your higher self isn’t something you become. Your highest self is who you already are.

You don’t have to strive to become this person because this person is already you

And this is important. Striving is the antithesis of manifestation because ingrained in it is the belief that you don’t already possess this thing. But you do. Everything you’re looking for already exists within you. Manifestation occurs when you stop living from the outside in and instead begin to live from the inside out.

So it’s never about striving to become your highest self. It’s about knowing you already are this person. Your highest self exists within you. And as you begin to remove the layers of fears, distrust, and self-doubt that have prevented you from connecting with the real and true you, it will become easier to align with your highest, essential self each and every day.

How To Connect With Your Higher Self

To begin connecting with your higher self, it’s important to first go within and uncover the real, true, infinite you. Below, you’ll find some questions to ask yourself to connect deeper with this part of you. (You might find it helpful to journal your answers.)

    • Who am I without my fears?
    • Who am I without my stress?
    • Who am I without the worries that keep me up at night?
    • Who am I without the external circumstances that I’ve defined myself by?
    • Who am I when I’m doing what I love most in the world?
    • Who am I when my heart is on fire with joy and passion?
    • Who am I when I act from a place of love?
    • Who am I when I feel connected to myself, other people, and the Universe?
    • Who am I when I feel connected to something deeper and more profound than my daily external experiences?
    • Who am I when I feel connected to my purpose?
    • Who am I when I close my eyes and picture the truest, most authentic me?

Once you have a clear understanding of who your essential self is, you can make it a daily practice to connect with this deepest part of you. To do this, it’s important to take some time each day – even if it’s just for a minute or two – to step away from the external noise and go within. Take a deep breath and remember who you are.

Below, you’ll find a list of practices to help you connect with your higher self each and every day.

Meet Your Higher Self In Meditation

Meditation allows you to step away from the outside world for a bit and meet yourself exactly where you are. It isn’t about being perfect. It isn’t even about clearing your mind. It’s simply about being, exactly as you are. Meditation is a natural bridge to connecting with your higher self. It allows you to gently shed the layers of everything you’re not to return to who you are. Infinite. Divine. Measureless. Whole.

One powerful practice is to consciously meet your higher self in meditation. To do this, envision that you’re somewhere you feel completely safe and at ease. You might imagine that you’re in a meadow, near the ocean, or somewhere else in nature that feels like home to you. As you’re walking along a path, you see someone in the distance. You approach closer until they’re in full view; it’s your higher self. Imagine what your higher self looks like and how they carry themselves. See them greeting you with so much love and compassion. If you have any questions you’d like to ask your higher self, ask them now. Listen to what they have to say. Remember that your higher self is connected to the light and energy of the entire universe, so trust their responses. This is divine guidance speaking directly to you.

Create A Higher Self Morning Routine

How would your higher self greet the new day? Your morning routine can set the foundation for the entire day ahead. When you begin your mornings as your higher self, you’re more likely to continue to connect with this truest and deepest part of you throughout the day. Instead of rushing through your mornings to get out the door, practice mindfulness as you step into the first hour of this new day. You might meditate, journal, recite positive affirmations, stretch, practice yoga, go for a jog, read a chapter out of a personal growth book, or do something else that feels fulfilling for you.

As you begin each day, remember that you are in control of your mindset. You’re in control of your emotions. You’re in control of how you perceive this new day.

Recite Positive Affirmations Aligned With Your Higher Self

Positive affirmations are encouraging, uplifting statements designed to boost your confidence and self-belief. The classic intro to any positive affirmation is two simple yet powerful words: I am.

You have the power to end that sentence in any way that feels right to you. I am worthy. I am powerful. I am brilliant. I am open-hearted. I am brave. I am extraordinary. I am infinite.

Recite positive affirmations that resonate deeply with you. Carry these empowering words with you throughout your day. Repeat them frequently. Write them on post-it notes. Create phone reminders that pop up at random times during the day affirming your undeniable worthiness.

The more you repeat these positive affirmations, the deeper they become ingrained into your subconscious mind. Keep repeating them over and over again. Affirm what feels true and real and good to you.

(Looking for affirmations? I have thousands of affirmations across this website. Click here to find the right ones for you.)

    Release Limiting Beliefs

A limiting belief is a deep-seated belief that holds you back from realizing your true potential and living the life that you desire. Limiting beliefs aren’t a natural part of your essence and being; they weren’t a part of you when you were born onto this earth. They’re a result of your lived experiences. And most of the time, you’ll find that your limiting beliefs are rooted in fear: fear of rejection, fear of abandonment, fear of not having what it takes, fear that there isn’t room for you to succeed, fear of being seen for your true self, fear of failure, and even fear of success.

Limiting beliefs keep you from aligning with your true self and stepping into the life that’s waiting for you beyond your worries and fears.

Identifying your limiting beliefs requires meaningful self-reflection. What fears are you hiding behind? What’s stopping you from being your truest, most authentic you? Once you’ve identified your limiting beliefs, you can consciously choose to create new, reframed beliefs. Ask yourself, what beliefs would my higher self hold? For instance, if you have a limiting belief that you’re not smart or talented enough to make it in a certain field, your reframed belief might be that you are more than capable of succeeding and thriving (and that the Universe put this dream into your heart for a reason, so you can release your worries and choose to trust).

    Be Your Higher Self

Embody your highest self in how you interact with friends and strangers throughout the day. In every situation you encounter, ask yourself, what would my higher self do? How would my higher self react? What choices would my higher self make? Would my higher self be critical or compassionate? Would my higher self worry about the future or trust that everything will work out? If your higher self is endlessly kind, loving, and compassionate, then give love, kindness, and compassion freely, just as your higher self would.

    Live In This Present Moment

You have a past, and you have a future, but you don’t live in either of those spaces. You live here, right now. You’re breathing in this moment. Your heart is beating in this moment. Your power is here, right now, in this present moment. And this is where your higher self lives. Your higher self isn’t reliving the past or worrying about the future. Your higher self knows that the best thing you can do for your future is to love this moment right now. To find gratitude in this moment. To discover the miracles that this moment can offer when you open your eyes to uncover them.

So keep coming back to the present moment. It’s okay to think about the future. It’s also okay to think about the past – to wonder, even, what would’ve happened if you had made different choices.

The key is to not dwell in those spaces.

Keep coming back to this moment right now. Keep breathing. Keep being. Keep noticing. You’ll be surprised by how much you discover about yourself and the world around you when you simply pay attention.

    Your Higher Self & Manifestation

So how can aligning with your higher self help you to manifest your dreams? Let’s consider what it looks like when you’re out of alignment with your highest self versus when you’re in alignment with this essential part of you. (See the table below.)

    Out of AlignmentIn Alignment
    FearfulFearless
Held back by limiting beliefsFree from limiting beliefs
    Buried under self-criticismLifted by self-compassion
Trusts only what you can seeTrusts what you feel deep within
Easily shaken by external circumstancesGrounded, centered, and trusting, no matter what happens in the external world
Feels disconnected from the outer world (and often feels disconnected from self)Connected to yourself, other people, and the Universe as a whole
Weighed down by negative thoughts and feelings (fear, worry, stress, anger, distrust, disconnection, scarcity, lack of faith)Natural state is positive vibrations (love, gratitude, joy, peace, community, compassion, hope, faith, freedom, abundance, empowerment)
Often views life through a mindset of lack and scarcity (because you measure your abundance by what you see outside of yourself)Views life with an abundance mindset. Knows that infinite abundance is available to all. Also knows that abundance doesn’t start outside of you; it begins within.

Simply put, the more you align with your higher self, the easier manifestation becomes. Not only does it become easier to vibrate at the frequency of your desires, but you’re more patient, trusting, and at peace with all that’s happening in your life. You honor your inner knowing and are guided by faith over fear. You create a life of true abundance not from the outside in but from the inside out.

Once you can tap into this essential state and consistently align with the abundance within, you’ll see it manifest in all different forms outside of you.

To be clear, you can manifest things in the short-term without consistently aligning with your highest self, as long as you consistently align with the positive emotions of what you want. But long-term manifestation without the highest self isn’t sustainable. It will constantly feel like you’re striving to become something rather than simply being. The work you do now to consistently align with your higher self will ultimately make your long-term journey more joyful, peaceful, and simply easier. It will become less about doing and more about being

The importance of aligning with your highest self goes beyond manifesting for the future. It’s about knowing your worthiness right now. And you are worthy and deserving of living a life that feels good to you. To wake up each morning in alignment with the real and true you. To experience feelings of joy, love, peace, abundance, and freedom as your permanent, natural state.

And you deserve to know that you are worthy of receiving your dreams just because you’re you. You don’t have to do more. You don’t have to be more. You don’t have to achieve more. You get to receive because who you are, exactly as you are, is always enough.

That’s what your higher self gives you.

    Less striving. More receiving.

    Your Greatest Teacher

Have you ever searched for answers outside yourself when you knew the right answer deep within the whole time?

One final note I want to make about your higher self is that this part of you is often your greatest teacher. If you’re seeking answers outside of yourself and having a difficult time, allow yourself to pause. Take a step back. Close your eyes, and picture your higher self. Ask your higher self the questions that are weighing on your mind. (You might try this practice in meditation, if it feels right.)

While the Universe will provide you with signs and synchronicities to deliver messages, ultimately, the most profound messages come from the eternal, infinite part of you that exists within. This is the life force of the Universe flowing inside you. You may not quite trust it yet because you’ve been taught to trust your logic and reason over this deep inner knowing. But the eternal energy flowing within you is your greatest guide and greatest teacher. As you learn to trust it, answers will come more easily, and you’ll be able to tap into your intuition to lead you to your next step.

Start practicing coming to your highest self when you have questions about your life path. Have patience if the answers don’t come to you right away. Sometimes, you might ask a question, and then an answer will come to you in the middle of the afternoon several days later.

And if an answer comes that doesn’t seem logical, don’t immediately dismiss it. Explore this answer with gentle curiosity. Your mind will likely immediately try to find all the reasons why it must be wrong, so allow yourself to flip your perspective and look for the reasons it might be right.

    Overcoming Procrastination

We’ve all experienced moments of procrastination throughout our lives. We procrastinate schoolwork, job assignments, household chores, going to the gym, and all the tedious tasks on our daily to-do lists. But it’s not just the small things we put off. Sometimes, we put off having that hard conversation. We avoid trying that new thing we always kind of wanted to do but have been scared to try because of all the uncertainties associated with doing something we’ve never done before. And we’ll also even procrastinate taking the first step to living our dreams, often because of fear of failure and not wanting to make mistakes.

There’s a difference between taking a rest day to give yourself a mental break from all your daily tasks (these are often needed) and avoiding something that you know needs to get done. You’ll know the difference from how it feels. A rest break will feel like a soulful sigh of relief; procrastination will feel like a heavy weight bearing down on your body that just won’t go away.

Procrastination has affected us all at some point, but you have the power at any point to change your story. You control your thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and actions. So at any moment, you can choose to step away from procrastination and step into the life you want to create for yourself.

Here are some tips for overcoming procrastination:

    • Remember your why. Why are you doing this task in the first place? Why does this matter? If you do this one thing, what will you gain?
    • Release perfection. One of the biggest barriers to getting started is the fear of making mistakes. Give yourself permission to be imperfect, make mistakes, and learn as you go.
    • Don’t wait for the right time. There will never be a “right” time, and you’ll likely never feel truly ready. Do it anyway.
    • Remember that discipline generates freedom. When you approach all your tasks with discipline, especially the ones you don’t want to do, you’re freeing up your future. (Plus, you won’t have the weight of the task still sitting on your shoulders, reminding you that it needs to get done.)

Below, discover 30 affirmations for procrastination to help you complete your tasks and master self-discipline. Anytime you find yourself avoiding a task, return to these affirmations as a reminder that everything you do today leads you to an even better tomorrow.

    Essential Oils For Manifesting

When used correctly, essential oils can be a powerful addition to your manifesting practice. You can use essential oils in traditional ways, such as in a diffuser or worn topically (just make sure you’re using one that’s safe for your skin), or you can get a little creative in your manifesting practice by rubbing some oil on a dollar bill, anointing a candle with a specific oil, or using one of the other manifesting methods I’ve listed in the next section.

No matter what practice you use, the key is to always use your essential oils with intention; be clear and specific about exactly what you want to manifest, and visualize your desire in your mind’s eye, allowing yourself to feel all the positive emotions of having exactly what you want.

Below, I’ve listed essential oils and oil blends for manifesting your desires. I’ve divided these essential oils into three categories: essential oils for manifesting love, essential oils for manifesting money, and essential oils for manifesting success. Under each category, I provide links to essential oil blends that can help you manifest your specific desires. These blends come pre-made and are fully ready for you to start using to manifest your intentions. If you’d prefer to use the essential oils you already have, I also provide lists under each category of single oils you can use to either make your own blends or use individually.

You can skip to the category you want to learn more about using these links:

When using essential oils, please read labels and packaging instructions. Dilute as instructed. Practice safe storage. And choose brands that are free of synthetic chemicals. If you have any questions or concerns, please talk to a certified essential oils practitioner or to your healthcare professional.

How To Use Essential Oils For Manifesting

Below, you’ll find a list of ways you can use essential oils for manifesting love, money, success, and more. These practices are specifically geared toward the Art of the Root oil blends that you’ll find below. For single essential oils such as Clary Sage, Wild Orange, and others, you can still do these practices; just make sure to do so with very clear intention. You can also use them in your diffuser, wear your oils, or use them as you normally would, saying your intention aloud (i.e. being clear about what you want to manifest) when you begin your practice.

Dab Oil Onto Money, Photos & More

Think about what you want to manifest. What items do you associate with this desire? For instance, if you want to manifest financial wealth, you might associate this with physical cash, your wallet or purse, or bank receipts. To manifest success for your business, you may consider using business cards or a copy of your sales permit. Choose an item you associate with what you want to manifest and rub some oil onto this item. As you use the oil, say your intention out loud, being clear and specific.

    Use With Scripting

This is one of my favorite manifestation tricks to amplify your intentions. If you have a scripting practice, you can rub a little bit of manifesting oil on your script for some extra manifesting magic. This is especially powerful when paired with the pillow method, which you can learn more about here. You also don’t have to limit this to just scripting. You can use manifesting oil with handwritten letters, the 55×5 manifestation method, and other manifestation journaling practices. (And don’t forget to apply a dab of manifesting oil to your vision board!)

Do you want to fully immerse yourself in the positive vibrations of all your dreams and desires? Check out 30 Perfect Days, a digital manifestation journal available in my online shop! Each day, you’ll receive a unique scripting prompt that will help you to live as if you already have your dreams and desires right now. Additionally, you’ll find space for daily gratitude, acknowledging the miracles that appear in your everyday world, uplifting affirmations, and more. Comes with editable text fields so you can choose to either type directly into the journal or print and hand write! Click here to learn more!

    Wear On Your Body

If it’s safe to do so, you can wear the manifestation oil on your body daily, or save it for important moments like job interviews, first dates, and business meetings. If you’re about to sign important documents, you can rub some on your hands (or the pen, if you don’t want to rub it on your hands). And if you’d rather not wear it directly, you can also anoint your jewelry with a drop of oil before you leave the house.

    Anoint Candles With Oil

For a dedicated manifestation ritual, choose a candle with a color that directly correlates with what you want to manifest. For instance, a pink candle is correlated with romance and green is tied to money. (Learn more about candle colors for manifestation here.) It’s best to use a brand new candle that’s specifically chosen for this purpose. Rub the oil at the top of the candle, pulling upward, as you visualize your desires. You might also use a toothpick to carve your intention on the side of the candle. (Be clear, specific, and concise.)

If you’re interested in purchasing candles specifically formulated with herbs and essential oils to help you manifest your desires, I highly recommend checking out Art of the Root’s manifestation candles, which include the Money Drawing candle, the Love and Attraction candle, the Crown of Success candle, and more.

Spiritual Meaning Of The Full Moon

While the new moon offers you the opportunity to set intentions and connect to your deepest desires, the full moon allows you the chance to step back and reflect on all that you’ve manifested and created during this past lunar cycle.

It’s likely that you often find yourself in creation mode: working towards your dreams, setting intentions, following your intuition, and taking the next step to manifest your desires. Creation is beautiful and exhilarating, but it’s important to also take time to pause, reflect, and just be for a little while.

The full moon is the perfect time to embrace the pause as you sink into silence and reflect on all that you’ve done and accomplished over the past month.

More than anything, the full moon is all about embracing gratitude. Even if you’re not where you ultimately want to be, you are exactly where you’re meant to be in this moment.

Have gratitude for your journey and how far you’ve come. Appreciate your own resilience and strength as you’ve continued on this journey, even when it would’ve been easier to turn back. Express sincere thankfulness for all that you have and all that’s coming.

During the full moon, your emotions will likely be amplified. While you’re not actively trying to manifest anything new during this time, your heightened feelings can contribute to your overall manifestations in a powerful way.

Gratitude and love are the highest vibrations, so as you choose to focus on gratitude, allow the feelings of true appreciation light up every cell of your being. Use positive affirmations rooted in love, joy, peace, and abundance to keep your vibration high.

During this time, you may feel called to embrace your inner creativity. Take some time away from work and your never-ending to-do list. Give yourself permission to create simply for the sake of creating: not to be productive, not to accomplish anything, and certainly not because your creations have to be good. Create through the energy of joy, love, and passion. Paint, write, draw, mold, build – whatever you do, do it because it feels good to you. Allow yourself to remember what it feels like to create something just because.

The full moon is a profound time to do the following:

    • Express gratitude
    • Reflect on all that you’ve created and manifested during this past lunar cycle
    • Use positive affirmations to keep your vibration high
    • Express your creativity in a fun way
    • Take a night off from your to-do list to do something that brings you joy
    • Embrace positive feelings and emotions
    • Surrender, allow, and just be.

How To Fall In Love With Yourself

I used to believe that the path to falling in love with myself would be a linear journey, and at the end of it, I’d discover the secret to deep, lifelong self-love.

What I’ve learned, though, is that this path is very much non-linear. There may be days when you feel like you’ve uncovered the secret to everlasting joy and love, and then one day, something happens, and you start to question everything you thought you knew. You may doubt yourself. You may wish you could change certain parts of you. And during these times, you may feel like you’ve taken a step back in your journey.

I was doing so well, you think. And now I’ve messed up and ruined it all.

    But here’s the truth:

Those steps back? They aren’t steps back at all. They’re actually opportunities to move forward. When you encounter an experience that triggers something painful within, the Universe isn’t trying to hurt you or push you backwards on your path. It’s allowing you the opportunity to release old feelings and beliefs in order to grow.

These experiences also give you the chance to practice self-compassion. When you recognize negative energy within, instead of chastising yourself, you have the opportunity to say, “I see my pain. I see my fears. I recognize that I’ve made mistakes and that I don’t always react to situations as my highest self. And that’s okay. Because no matter what, I am still worthy of unconditional love and compassion.”

This path to falling in love with yourself isn’t paved in perfection.

It’s paved in compassion. In forgiveness. In honoring every part of you, both your light and your shadows.

Falling in love with yourself isn’t simply the destination you seek. It is the journey. It’s the path you walk upon. It’s the tiny things you do for yourself every single day. And it’s allowing yourself to believe that no matter what you do or don’t do, you are always worthy. Right now. Just as you are. Today and always.

Practices For Falling In Love With Yourself

There is no single path to falling in love with yourself that will look the same for everyone. But here are some of the practices that may help you in your journey:

    • Practice self-compassion daily.
    • See yourself as an extension of the Universe: limitless, infinite, whole, eternal, and filled with unconditional love.
    • Align with your highest self: the real and true you. This is the infinite, everlasting part of you that is unchanged by external circumstances and experiences. Your highest self knows the right path and often doesn’t operate in the logical mind but in the heart. Listen to the wisdom of this part of yourself.
    • Practice accepting love from yourself and others, even you make a mistake.
    • When you feel like you have no energy, don’t try to push forward anyway. Take a step back. In those moments, ask your soul what it needs. Then, pour it into yourself.
    • Don’t suppress negative emotions. Allow them to flow within and through you. You can only release them by feeling your way through them. And sometimes, this requires breaking down, screaming, yelling, and allowing the tears to fall unapologetically.
    • Meet yourself where you are now. Maybe you’re not where you want to be, but you can still love yourself right now as you continue to grow.
    • Meditate. Journal. Practice stillness. Take long walks. Read. Stretch. But don’t do any of these things just because you feel like you should do them. Do what feels good to you. (And know that what feels good to you can change daily, and that’s okay.)
    • Celebrate your small wins just as much as your big ones.
    • Honor your heart. Honor your inner knowing. Honor the wisdom that exists within. No matter what someone else says, you’re the only one who ultimately knows what’s best for you.

What is the Art of Allowing? (A Complete Guide)

In this post, discover the meaning of the Art of Allowing, plus get tips and journal prompts to help you surrender your worries and trust the Universe to guide you in the direction of your dreams and desires.

What is the Art of Allowing?

The Art of Allowing is a key component in manifestation, which is the practice of visualizing your dreams and desires and vibrating at the frequency of your desires as if they’ve already come true. By becoming the embodiment of all your deepest desires, you attract more of this positive energy to you. (For instance, when you allow yourself to feel truly loved and cherished right now, you attract even more love into your life.)

Generally, when you read or listen to someone speak about manifestation, it’s in a very active sense. The word “manifest” itself is an action word. It seems to require continually doing. You visualize your desires, set an intention, listen to your intuition, take inspired action, and continually cultivate more and more self-belief.

But this only tells half the story. Manifestation isn’t only about doing; it’s also about being.

    Or, rather, allowing.

According to Abraham Hicks, the Art of Allowing is “the conscious, gentle guiding of your thoughts in the general direction of the things that you desire.”

To demonstrate this, imagine that you’re on a boat floating down a river. When you’re effortlessly floating downstream, you’re moving in the flow of all your dreams and desires. You might set aside your paddles, lay down, and let the Universe carry you, trusting that it’s taking you exactly where you want to go.

It seems simple enough, but often, we do the exact opposite: we pick up the oars and start furiously trying to paddle upstream, convinced we know the right path. Not only does this take us in the opposite direction of our desires, but it causes us to exert a lot more energy (and most of it isn’t positive).

The Art of Allowing is the practice of moving in flow with the Universe. It’s understanding that manifestation and the Law of Attraction isn’t 100% doing all the time. When you’re in alignment with the universal flow, you realize that your most important work of all is to feel good. You’re able to let go of control and surrender your path to the Universe. You focus on cultivating such a beautiful world within, your positive energy spreads outside of you.

This is the Art of Allowing: to let the positive energy of all your dreams and desires become the center of your world. You leave the when, what, where, and how to the Universe and focus solely on cultivating positive thoughts and positive emotions that support your entire well-being.

When you’re able to do this consistently each day, something kind of magical will begin to unfold in your outer world.

Want to learn how to practice the Art of Allowing? Keep reading to learn how to know if you’re moving with the flow of the Universe and how to cultivate a mindset of allowing.

How to Know If You’re Allowing

Have you ever had a moment where you feel really good about the path you’re on but then inner worries start to kick in? Maybe you think it’s too good to be true. Or maybe you start to think that you’re not truly worthy of your dreams. Many of us unintentionally self-sabotage, believing that it’s just not possible for good things to happen to us.

Something has to go wrong, right?

I’ve experienced this many times in my own journey. I’ll experience success and feel really good about my success . . . and then soon after, my inner worries and insecurities start to kick in. Here are some common thoughts I’ve had when this happens:

    • Am I really worthy of all these good things?
    • Something bad has to happen, right?
    • I shouldn’t be so confident. As soon as I’m too confident, the Universe will knock me back down again.

Have you ever had these types of thoughts? These negative thoughts are essentially our way of sabotaging ourselves from allowing more good things to flow in.

It’s not just our own internal fears and limiting beliefs that stop us from allowing, though. When we let external situations influence our internal worlds, we also block ourselves from receiving what we desire.

For instance, someone cuts you off in traffic. Or someone is rude to you at the grocery store. Maybe your boss was a jerk today or your partner’s bad mood has started to affect your own.

When you let these external situations stir up negative feelings such as anger and frustration within, you’re only causing yourself to suffer in the long run. Your power lies in your ability to experience a range of negative external situations but to not let them influence your own emotional state.

How to Practice the Art of Allowing

In theory, it seems like practicing the Art of Allowing should be really easy. It simply requires you to allow in the things you really want in your life. And to do that, the first step is to feel all of the things you already want to feel in your life: joyful, peaceful, free, abundant, loved.

All of it sounds simple enough.

But the truth is, this practice isn’t always easy. Especially not at first. There’s a good chance that you have decades of lived experience that directly counteracts the Art of Allowing.

So that’s why I want to start with this:

If you notice yourself having trouble releasing your worries and simply allowing, don’t criticize yourself. Don’t judge or condemn yourself.

One affirmation that I really like in these moments is, “I’m doing the best I can, and my best is enough.”

To help make the Art of Allowing a little easier, here are some practices you can utilize in your daily life:

    Connect With Your Inner Self

The first step to practicing the Art of Allowing is to understand your own relationship with allowing in your daily life. Do you easily allow things in, or do you always have to be in control of every situation? Do you trust the Universe to support you? How much time do you spend doing versus time spent being?

Once you understand your own relationship with allowing, you’re better able to begin surrendering control. While you can internally reflect upon the questions I posed above, I always find journaling to be a profound practice when I need to connect with my deepest self. To start, find a quiet spot where you won’t be interrupted. See if you can dedicate at least 15 to 20 minutes to this practice. As you journal, enact a “no self-criticism” rule. This means that even if uncomfortable truths arise, you don’t judge yourself for what you uncover.

Rather, acknowledge your truths with love and compassion. Remember that this journey of personal growth isn’t easy, and give yourself some credit for the courage it takes to go on this journey. If you’re not happy with the way you’ve reacted to situations in the past, you can recognize this while also asserting that you’re ready to start telling a new story now.

Below, you’ll find some journal prompts to help you uncover your own relationship with the Art of Allowing.

Journal Prompts for the Art of Allowing

    • Do I trust my path or do I have a hard time releasing control? What makes this hard or easy for me?
    • What does it mean to me to surrender to a higher power? Is this easy or hard for me?
    • What are three ways I can practice surrendering in my daily life?
    • What evidence do I see in my life that the Universe is always looking out for me? What are some visible and non-visible signs of the Universe’s love?
    • How can I use this evidence to cultivate more trust and allowing?
    • When it comes to my big goals and dreams, how much time do I spend doing? How much do I practice simply allowing?
    • What does allowing mean to me?
    • How does allowing feel to me?
    • Describe a day as your highest, most authentic self walking through life simply allowing. What does this day look like?

    Use Positive Affirmations

Positive affirmations are present-tense statements that are designed to uplift and encourage while boosting self-belief and supporting your overall well-being. Most positive affirmations support the practice of allowing, as they help to align you with the feel-good state of your dreams and desires. Depending on the situation, you can use specific affirmations that will help you in the moment. For instance, if you’re experiencing anxiety, you can repeat some gentle affirmations for anxiety.

To learn more about how to use positive affirmations to get the most out of them, I encourage you to read my blog post, How to Use Affirmations (So They Actually Work).

Below, I’ve linked to a few blog posts that will help to lift your vibrations and align you with the feelings of faith, joy, and inner peace:

    Meditate

Whenever you feel misaligned, meditation is a powerful practice for gently guiding you back home to yourself. It allows you to let go, surrender control, and open yourself up to receive whatever is for your highest good. Meditation is truly the ultimate practice for being and allowing.

Consider this quote from Abraham Hicks:

    • “By deliberately focusing upon good-feeling thoughts, you allow your physical cells to return to their natural balance. Breathing deeply is the key, softly hearing our words and allowing gentle alignment with the Energy of your Source.”

    And this one:

    • “There is no better way of stopping the momentum of something unwanted, and to allow the momentum of something wanted, than to meditate – other than getting a full night’s sleep.”

If you’re new to meditating, Mindful has a great meditation guide for beginners. I also encourage you to check out the InsightTimer app, which is my personal go-to app for meditation.

    Align With Your Highest Self

Your highest self is your essential self; it’s the eternal part of you that’s untouched by human experiences. This is the truest, most authentic part of you.

When you think about the Art of Allowing, consider how your highest self would respond to various situations. How does your highest self approach your goals and dreams? Does your highest self trust your path? How does your highest self respond in the face of not knowing what’s going to happen next?

It takes practice, but intentionally choosing to align with your highest self is one of the most powerful practices you can do to allow your deepest desires to manifest in your life. (And if you stray from your highest self? That’s okay. Don’t criticize or judge yourself. Respond with love and compassion, and remember that in every moment, you have the opportunity to realign with the true you.)

Below are some questions to consider when thinking about your highest self. You can answer these questions internally or reflect upon them in your journal.

    • Who is my highest self? How do I align with my highest self in my daily life?
    • Is my highest self able to trust, allow, and just be?
    • How does my highest self approach each day? How does my highest self react to negative energy? How does my highest self walk through life?
    • Do I regularly consult with my highest self when responding to situations and making decisions? If not, how can I begin to include my highest self in my life’s journey?
    • When I’m aligned with my highest self, how do I feel?

Abraham Hicks Quotes on the Art of Allowing

    • “The Art of Allowing, is wanting so much to feel good, that whether you are perusing the past or the present, or the future, you’re deliberately looking for the best-feeling thought that you can find.”
    • “The Art of Allowing says, ‘I’ve created it. It’s coming to me. It wants me. I want it. I will find a path to allow it. And the path of allowing what I want is the path of happiness, and joy, and feeling good.'”
    • “No matter what it is, if you really want it, and if you get out of the way of it, it will happen. It must be. It is Law. It can be no other way. It’s the way this Universe is established. If you want it and you relax, it will happen.”
    • “The Art of Allowing is caring so much about how I feel that I am unwilling to go to those uncomfortable places like: defending, justifying, rationalizing or trying to figure out why.”

    One Final Note

One last aspect about the Art of Allowing that’s important to mention is that this practice also means allowing others to live their lives without trying to control them. You may think you know the best path for them, but you can’t force anything on another person. They must discover their own path, which may be drastically different from what you want for them.

You can be a beacon of love and compassion. You can be a guiding light when they ask for advice. You can be a positive example of what it means to walk your own path in love and faith.

But you can’t push them in a certain direction.

The Art of Allowing means giving others the freedom to follow their own inner knowing, learn from their own experiences, and grow at their own pace.

And truly, when you’re aligned with the flow of the Universe, you won’t want this anyway. Once you fully allow, there is no need to control. You’ll be able to let go and trust that the Universe is taking care of the highest good for yourself and others.

    Your 7 Main Chakras

Before we dive into chakra affirmations, let’s first break down what exactly a chakra is and why it’s important.

Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning “wheel” or “disk.” A commonly accepted definition for the word chakra is a wheel of energy in your body. This wheel of energy isn’t something you physically see, but rather you experience it through feelings, sensations, and your own inner knowing.

When talking about chakras, we typically focus on the seven main ones in your body: Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye, and Crown. However, your body actually has 114 energy centers in your body, and some people believe there to be more.

So what exactly do these energy centers do? Through your body, your life force, or prana, flows. Ideally, your life force is always flowing freely throughout your energy system, but sometimes, it might get stuck, causing one or more of your chakras to become underactive or overactive.

One of the most profound ways to heal an imbalanced chakra is to incorporate powerful affirmations into your daily routine. Chakra affirmations allow you to realign with your highest and truest self: the person you are when you strip away external stresses, experiences, and circumstances. This is the real you: the part of you that is eternal, limitless, and infinite.

Below, you’ll find 70 total affirmations for your 7 main chakras (10 for each of your energy centers). You’ll also find images that you can save to any of your devices if you want to come back to these affirmations again and again. I also provide you with some suggestions for how to use chakra affirmations to get the most out of them.

    How to Use Chakra Affirmations

    • Meditation: You can choose to connect with one or all of your chakras during a single meditation. For instance, if you’re connecting with the root chakra, envision it as a bright red glowing orb at the base of your spine. As you breathe in, see the orb getting bigger. As you breathe out, see it growing brighter. As you do this, recite grounding root chakra affirmations. To connect with each of your chakras in a single meditation, start at the root chakra and recite one or two affirmations. Then, move to the sacral chakra and continue to work upwards along your spine.
    • Mirror Work: Stand in front of the mirror and look yourself in the eyes. Take a deep breath and focus on one chakra at a time. You can look at the physical location of the chakra in the mirror, but also try to connect to it within. Recite the chakra affirmations that your soul needs most in this moment.
    • Post-Its: Leave post-it notes in visible places that you’ll see throughout the day. On each post-it note, write a chakra affirmation that resonates with you. Whenever you see the post-it note, recite the affirmation either silently or out loud, feeling the positive words in every cell of your being. For an added bonus, you can use post-its that correlate with the color of each chakra.
    • Color Therapy: Color therapy is the act of immersing yourself in the color associated with that chakra. One way to use color therapy and affirmations in conjunction is to make it a game. For instance, if you’re working with your heart chakra, as you go about your day, pay attention to the world around you. Whenever you see something green in your external world, recite a heart chakra affirmation either silently or aloud. You can do this with one or multiple chakras at a time.
